I think you are being a disingenuous towards Caribny. Many people bought onto the Guyana Time propaganda for a while BECAUSE they (GT) spun Minister Jordon words. Carbiny realized early that it could be propaganda. That said, the government was contemplating an increase, but it was public pressure that caused them to back down.
The government rightfully said that there needs to be a pay differential between the PM and VPs and Senior vs Junior ministers. However, an increase is not needed to obtain a pay differential; just pay the junior position less. What's so hard about that? What is seems like is that they wanted to increase all salaries. The government PR was terrible on this issue.
If there is anyone on GNI who milked the propaganda was me. You should be cussing me, but I wouldn't have cared. Screw their increase!

âspuriousâ claims of âpocket increasesâ
for Ministers

Finance Minister Winston Jordan is rejecting
an article published in the Friday August 7th
edition of the Guyana Times
which reports on an increase of the pocket allowance
for Ministers from US$25 per day to $500 per day.
At a press conference on Friday, August 07,
Jordan said that nothing could be further from the truth
and though he made attempts to clarify the issue
with the Opposition aligned newspaper,
the âspuriousâ claim was published
for a second time on Friday.
âThat particular one made me choke on my coffee,â
said Jordan who added that since 1993,
the allowances have remained the same
and instead of making changes,
the new government will be tightening
the leases on allowances.
âThere is no document being considered
for any of these increases,â said Jordan
labeling the claims as
âextremely spurious and bordering on libel.â
The Minister further explained
that in many instances while the travel allowances
for Ministers have a fixed rate,
these would have been changed.
Documentation was provided which indicated
that while the hotel accommodation allowance
for North America, South America and the Caribbean
was limited to US$150 per night,
Ministers would have spent more
on hotel accommodation in the previous regime.
The documents show that
Former Finance Minister, Dr Ashni Singh
spent $US355 per night in October 2014
when he attended
the International Monetary Fund Conference.
However, Jordan explained
that this is a non-issue
given that hotels would either increase
or decrease fees depending whether
or not it was peak season.
Going forward, Jordan explained
that Government Ministers would have to provide
receipts for hotel accommodations
whenever they travel overseas.
Failure to do so would result in the Ministers
having to pay 60% of their travel allowance
into the treasury.

Govât admits to using faulty guidelines for state board appointments

â Promises review in anticipation of âpolitical jeopardyâ The new coalition-led administration is admitting that it used faulty guidelines to appoint persons to State Boards and has promised to review this process since to not do so would mean putting itself in âpolitical jeoprdy.â
A release from the Government Information Agency (GINA), citing recent remarks from Minister of Governance, Raphael Trotman, said in wake of heavy criticisms from the political opposition regarding the composition and appointments to State Boards, Government has advised that the process was done using the already established guidelines; the same guidelines used by the former Administration.
Trotman said government will soon produce new guidelines for the appointment of members of the various State Boards and these will be used in the future. He said for the recent appointments, Ministers were asked to submit names of persons who will represent the various agencies under their purview.
The Minister acknowledged the criticisms about the lack of gender and ethnic balance and explained that Government has learnt that, âusing the old guidelines can put us in political jeopardy.â
Responding to questions, as to whether the appointees were handpicked by the Government as though they were friends and associates of the administration, Minister Trotman explained, âI know it may seem that way, but that was not done. All of them (appointees) had previously expressed an interest. Notice was short but, all of these persons had expressed willingness to participate.â
While in opposition the APNU and AFC had criticised the PPP-led administration for installing political appointees to State Boards, even questioning the competence of some of the individuals. It is therefore unclear why the new administration would have knowingly used the same guidelines to appoint board members.
