More groups oppose Sasa Port PPP

Davao City — The controversial modernization plan of Sasa Port under the government’s Public-Private Partnership (PPP) program has attracted more opposition here.

Anak Pawis party-list nominee Joel Maglungsod said their group opposes the PPP in general because these big ticket projects do not consider social impacts and environmental costs.

He said the controversial Sasa Port expansion project, costing P17 billion, should be investigated in Congress.

Maglungsod was here on his way to Cagayan de Oro City where he was one of the speakers at the Labor Day activities. He was the Secretary-general of the militant Kilusang Mayo Uno Mindanao Office here for a long time.

Earlier on Tuesday, City Councilor Danilo Dayanghirang called on the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOCT) to review the proposed Sasa Port PPP in a privileged speech at the City Council.

He said the project costs too much that it would be a burden on taxpayers, the business sector and the consumers.
