Dead: Kevon George
Reports are that the now dead man was involved in an argument with his assailant at Bare Root, ECD when he was stabbed. Following the incident, George was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) where he was pronounced dead.
On Sunday at the dead man’s residence, his mother Minerva Nieuenkerk told Guyana Times her son was a very friendly man with everyone within the community and was rarely in any trouble.
Nieuenkerk stated that her son’s killer lives in close proximity to their home. She explained that the incident, which led to her son’s demise, begun several weeks ago when it was alleged that the assailant had robbed her daughter of several appliances and other valuables.
According to the grieving mother, the family had made a report about the incident but claimed the police never showed up. She added that family members made contact with the assailant’s father over the theft which forced the young man to return the valuables. Nieuenkerk noted that though some of the appliances were returned, a few were still being withheld.
She added that her son confronted his assailant about the outstanding items on Sunday which resulted in an argument that led to the stabbing. The dead man’s brother Kevin George told this newspaper that following the argument, which lasted a mere few minutes, his brother jumped on a bicycle and left.
He said several minutes later he was informed that his brother was stabbed to the throat. Brother Kevin noted that the assailant’s father has since gone to the Vigilance Police Station and is assisting with investigations.
