How come there is no CCTV coverage during the heist?
Maybe a blackout happened for a short period when the heist was going on?

That would be like for eight hours. However, most businesses have back up generators. The alarm went off 3 or more times and yet no calls to the business owners were made.

Itâs a stall in the market, generators are not allow.
- why did the business owners desengage the features that would alert them when the alarm went off .
- why the business owners fail to install security cameras inside and around the business that can also be monitor from a cell phone.
- MMM dispute the business owners comment about not contacting them

The MMC Security Force in a statement yesterday claimed that contrary to reports, it indeed sent an armed Power Patrol team to check on the L. Seepersaud Maraj Stabroek Market location, after receiving electronic alarm signals.
After Tuesdayâs discovery of a multi-million gold and diamond jewelry heist at the L. Seepersaud Maraj & Sons jewellery stall in the Stabroek Market, there has been much speculation surrounding how the heist was executed. There were so many layers of security, which seemed to have failed.
The jewellery stall that has been in the Stabroek Market for over six decades, was said to have been secured on the last day of business of the market, last week. It was further checked on Sunday and the owners found the stall still secured.
This was not the case on Tuesday morning at 07:00 hrs when an employee of a neighbouring stall, turned up to find a vault housed in the jewellery stall torched, and the door ajar.
The padlocks for the grill that secured the stall from front were cut and the grill wrenched open. There were a bag at the scene and a jersey. There was also the equipment used to torch the vault. That included gas bottles and a torch.
The vault is a walk-in vault. Before that vault could be accessed, there is a quarter inch steel-plated door that is secured by multiple locks. Then the vault door has a combination locking system.
The vault itself carries 12-inch thick walls and is fireproof. There was also an electronic alarm system monitored by MMC Security Force that the bandits would have had to contend with. The market is usually secured in the night and monitored by constables that are attached to the City Police.
This had the proprietors pondering how such a heist can be achieved without the market security having a clue. Some staff were adamant that it was an inside job, since they claim that it would take over five hours to cut all the locks and torch the safe, and there was no evidence of a break-in to the market itself, to their knowledge. There was supposed to be City Police securing the market.
In a statement late on Tuesday afternoon, the proprietors of Seepersaud Maraj & Sons, said, â We have consulted with several Security Specialists and others trained in ironwork and welding, and we have been informed that it would have taken no less than five hours for the vaults to be cut open.
âWe have spoken directly to two city Constables who claimed that checks were done earlier in the market but nothing was discovered.
âAs stall owners operating under market rules, we have no choice but to depend on the City Constabulary for security whenever the market is closed. At the time of writing this, we have not been contacted by anyone from the Mayor and City Councilâs Office or the Town Clerkâs Office.
âWe are surprised at the lack of care and diligence by the City Constabulary in not observing that such an elaborate crime was being perpetuated over so many hours.â
Additionally, the stall was secured with an alarm system that was being monitored by the MMC Security Force.
âWe contacted the MMC Security Force late (Tuesday) afternoon and we were informed that the alarm was indeed set off three times last night. However, MMC never informed us nor the police that the alarms went off. On every other occasion, whenever the alarm is set off, MMC would call us immediately and the fact that we never received any calls or reports from them is puzzling.â
This was followed yesterday by MMC Security Force. âWe regret making a public statement about a clientâs confidential security matters, but we feel obligated to correct the false statements made in some recent media reports about the robbery at L. Seepersaud Maraj & Sons Jewellery.
âUpon receiving electronic alarm signals from L. Seepersaud Maraj and Sons Stabroek Market location, MMC Security Force made calls to the telephone numbers provided by our client. We have verified this with GTTâs records. Those calls were not answered.
âAs per operating procedure, we dispatched an armed Power Patrol team to the clientâs location. Unfortunately, our team was unable to gain access to the Stabroek Market after normal business hours.â
If indeed an armed Patrol from the MMC Security Force did go to the Stabroek Market after receiving electronic alarm signals, it even creates more speculation about what transpired.
âWhere were the City Police constables that were supposed to be securing the market? Did members of the armed Patrol attempt to contact the City Police? Why did the police not see the security patrol?
The police have since taken six persons into custody as investigations continue.

Three Stabroek Market vendors were this morning remanded to prison after being charged with the theft of $22 million in cash and jewellery last week from the L. Seepersaud Maraj and Sons jewellery store.
Charged are Clifford Rodney, Albert DeFreitas and Trayon Parks.
The charge alleges that the trio between July 2nd and July 3rd, at Stabroek Market, Georgetown, broke and entered the L Seepersaud Maraj and Sons store and stole a quantity of gold and diamond jewellery, valued at $20 million and $2 million in cash.
The men were not required to plead to the indictable charge and Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan remanded them prison after an objection to bail by prosecutor Neville Jeffers, who mentioned that all three men were previously charged and two have pending court matters.
The matter is expected to be called again on July 23rd.
The owners of the store discovered that their stall had been broken into and that their vault was cut open last Tuesday morning after a fellow stallholder alerted them.
âThe vault had three (3) doors and each door was cut with precision. It is sufficient to say that the perpetrators of this crime arenât novices, but highly skilled thieves,â the store owners said on the companyâs Facebook page.
They said based on advice from security specialists and persons trained in ironworking and welding, it would have taken no less than five hours for the vault to be cut open.
The robbery, which is suspected to have taken place on the night of July 2nd based on the time when the alarm was triggered, has resulted in the city council announcing plans to increase security at the municipal markets.

Three Stabroek Market vendors were yesterday charged with breaking and entering the L. Seepersaud Maraj and Sons jewellery store and carting off $22 million in jewellery and cash and police said two of them have confessed to the crime, while their lawyers claim they were tortured.
Clifford Rodney, 66, of 265 One Mile, Linden, Albert DeFreitas, 54, of 100 Leopold Street, Werk-en-Rust, and Trion Park, 31, of Lot 107 Eccles, East Bank Demerara, were read the joint charge in Georgetown by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan, who remanded them all to prison.
It is alleged that Rodney, DeFreitas and Park, between July 2nd and July 3rd, at Stabroek Market, Georgetown, broke and entered the store and stole a quantity of gold and diamond jewellery, valued at $20 million as well as $2 million in cash.
The men were not required to enter a plea to the indictable charge.
Police prosecutor Neville Jeffers objected to bail being granted, citing the value of the articles stolen, the nature of the crime, and the fact that Park has a pending matter at the Providence Magistrateâs Court, while Rodney has a pending breaking and entering charge before Magistrate Leron Daly in Georgetown. The prosecutor noted that in the case of DeFreitas, the accused is a repeat offender.
As it relates to the involvement of each defendant in the commission of the offence, the prosecutor stated that Rodney admitted to being the person who cut the jewellery storeâs safe, while DeFreitas admitted under caution to assisting Rodney in doing so.
Meanwhile, attorney Adrian Thompson, who represented Park, told the court that his client was held over seven days without charge. The lawyer added that Park denies knowing anything about the crime.
Rodneyâs attorney told the court that her client, who was arrested at his home, is a businessman. She alleged that while in custody, Rodney was tortured by police. The attorney alleged that a black plastic bag was placed over his head and he was shocked. Additionally, the court heard from the lawyer that the police arrested the defendantâs two sons and told him that they could all be put away, which caused him to agree to making a video recording for police.
The attorney for DeFreitas noted that he too was tortured, including being beaten on his testicles.
Each attorney requested bail on behalf of their clients. DeFreitasâ attorney stated that the accused is ill and requires an injection every 72 hours. However, medical papers supplied to the court failed to substantiate the claim.
To be fair to the racial make up of those thieves, low level crime is normally perpetrated by blacks, whilst high level crime is the domain of the indians. This is a rare case where blacks went for the big bucks.
Glad they were caught, would be interesting to learn where the gold ended up and who was the mastermind behind this. Race has nothing to do with high level vs. low level crimes in Guyana.
I suspect that this was an ordered break in. Black man too stupid to be able to dispose of all that gold. A jewellery maker however would have a better chance, and they are all Indians.
Suh where is the loot?
