Florida Senator Marco Rubio on the rack over secrets of the party credit card he used to fund a family reunion.

Marco Rubio effectively swatted down questions about his personal finances during last week's presidential debate, arguing that the charges against him were old and 'discredited.'

His bookkeeping is now the subject of a new review, though, and last night the Tampa Bay Times revived details of the alleged mismanagement of a Republican Party of Florida credit card in his name when he was speaker of the Florida House.

In one instance he put a $10,000 family reunion on the card - a mistake he attributes to his travel agent. He admitted in his 2012 book to inadvertently paying his pavers with the card. Other expenses were more minute and included a $10.50 movie ticket.

Rubio says he paid for all his personal expenses but has not, to this point, provided documentation of that.

His campaign told the Tampa Bay Times he'd release those records in the near future, possibly before the end of the month.

The Tampa Bay Times says he spent $110,000 on the card and paid $16,052 out of pocket from 2007 - 2008 before he ran for the U.S. Senate.

After Rubio was elected to federal office in 2010 he acknowledged that he double-charged eight plane tickets to taxpayers in his accounting and also to the party. The Florida senator said it was an accident and he would write a check to the party for the flights, valued at $2,400.

Tampa-based GOP operative Chris Ingram told the Times that Rubio disclosed paying for the flooring in his Miami home with the card, too.

In an appearance on Good Morning America, Rubio said claims of misconduct outlined in the newspaper are not 'accurate' and said he could prove it.

'As we've said, we'll release those soon,' he said of the records.

Trump is not going to be the nominee. Bush is far from dead. Carson is not going to be the nominee either. Also...the Republicans are due to lose by some 5 and 15 percent this time regardless who is the nominee.

Their ceiling of voters to pull from is around 35 percent. The mindless conservatism and idiotic tea party policies have doomed them. They will also likely lose the senate and if they do they are at least 8 years out of office and to catch up with the american society.

Mrs Clinton will most likely be our next President.

Please understand that the Obama coalition of 2008 is not going to be that enthused next year.

Whether the GOP wins or not depends on how much damage they inflict on each other next year.  The GOP only lost seats in the Senate in 2012 because of a few idiots, one engaging in witchcraft, and 2 others claiming medical nonsense about the body healing from rape.  We will see if any senators will be that stupid next year.

If minority females stay home the GOP wins.  It is this group, NOT young minority males, who saved Obama's hide last time.  Obama lost even among white females in 2012.

As to GOP prospects for winning the presidency.  They won 48% of the votes in 2012, even with the idiots braying nonsense from the Middle Ages. The Democrats have much to worry about. Will the voters who showed up in 2010 and 2014 show up in 2016.

There is no Obama to bail them out as he did in 2012, when the GOP again stumped their toes by reminiscing about restricting the black votes, as the Dixiecrats did in 1964.

Who knows what secrets about Bill Clinton corruption isn't being held to the last minute, and dumped minutes before voters pull the lever in Nov, 2016.  What is evident is that the voters don't trust Hillary.  They just fear the GOP nutcases more.

And as two core parts of the Obama constituency, the black and the youth vote, still have yet to recover from the 2008-10 Great Recession, without Obama at the helm don't expect the levels of enthusiasm that we saw in 2008.

The results are in the hands of the GOP, not Hillary.  By the time they finish bashing each other, and a weakened Bush, Rubio, or Kasich starts to campaign in the general election, with they stl be standing, or in ER nursing their self inflicted wounds.

Despite the claims of the illiterates like bibi and baseman, Hillary is hoping in earnest that Trump is the nominee.  He will scare the minority and female vote out for her, together with the white suburban vote.  There aren't enough rednecks left to win elections, even in many parts of the South.  The evangelicals will stay home as they don't trust Trump.

When I read nonsense like the GOP is capped at 35% of the vote, I know the person who says this is a north east liberal, so out of touch about how much of the country thinks.  Hopefully Hillary's people don't fall for that.

Elections are won and who shows up, and with 50-60% voting in presidential elections, and seats allocated based on the electoral college, no one can take any vote for granted.  If NY and CA show up in all glory who cares if PA, OH, FL, and VA don't.

Isn't it amazing how none of these folks ever make a mistake by charging non-personal expenses on their personal credit cards.

caribny the discredited political pundit who knew that Obama was going to lose in 2012 and who I'm sure wanted no part of a winning Obama in 2008. He feels also that the PPP won the last elections in Guyana. He thinks that obfuscating details portray a sound political analytical mind. What a waste.

Kari, I am a Republican since I came to the United States, and speaking on behalf of a Republican candidate need no explanation. I voted for Bill Clinton and I may vote for Grandma's Clinton if she don't screw up, and that need no explanation either. Bill did a great job as president and I would love to see him back in the white house. They are good Republicans and Democrats alike. I also work at polling sites in NYC for the past 10 years and encourage people to vote and be counted, but not who to vote for. We have five great Republican candidates who can give Hillary a run for her money. I am not in a good state of mind to explain anything.

Cobra, here are some things to think about Bill Clinton.

  • HE repealed the Glass-Steagal Act which separated retail banking from investment banking and which led to the financial engineering that ultimately led to the financial collapse of 2008. He even said while he did it for good reason it was taken advantage of and acknowledged its role in the 2008 collapse. Bush ran with this deregulation and had a big role in the collapse.
  • He signed the act to create more jails and send a disproportionate amount of Blacks in prison. We spend more on prisons than schools. Bush outsourced prisons to the private sector and it became big business to havbe more prisons and more occupants of prisons.
  • He was late in Serbia and Rwanda. Lots of lives lost.
  • He did not act decisively on Al Qaeda before he left office. Of course Bush famously ignored those threats.

Have you seen any proposals from the Republican candidates other than continue to be the party of "No" to the next Democratic President? You do know that Hispanics, Blacks and women are pissed off by all the Republican candidates. They have to get a cunoo-munoo Democratic nominee to win; and Hillary is chastened after her husband's shenanigans (remember So Carolina in the 2008 De4mocratic Primary when he dissed Black people when the tide seemed to be turning Obama's way?). Hillary will swing toward the Obama legacy. That';s her only way of not letting the Republican clown car from driving America off a cliff.

Exactly that.

Scenario one.  GOP drops bombshell on Bill Clinton corruption minutes before the vote.

Scenario two.  Trump drops out, Carson and Bush forced out.  Cruz and Rubio left standing.

Two very different outcomes in the election.  Neither having a thing to do with Hillary.

This is not going to be the election of 2008, with a very enthused electorate.  Even liberal comedians laugh at the notion of "Change" which Obama espoused, wondering why folks were so naÃŊve to fall for that.  It will not take too much to determine who decides not to vote.

I know you aren't talking about me when you claim that the person who you refer to thinks that the PPP won.

If any Democrat thinks that victory is assured, and Hillary is NOT one of them, they live in the foolish world.  Elections are won by those who get their folks out to vote in a nation which is fairly evenly split.

Trump only wants to destroy Bush.  The fact that you think he will be president is a laugh.  He has no interest in such boring minutia, and as we see with Obama, when a single party doesn't control all branches of gov't, not much will happen.  The right wing end of the GOP will hate Trump, as they begin to know more about him.  Right now Boehner was driven out by HIS OWN PARTY!  Ryan is now a "moderate", showing how scary the GOP are.

Carson.  Please wake me up.

Fiorina.  Angry female. I will not say why, in case I get called misogynist.

Cruz.  Lunatic right wing idiot.  With him as the candidate the GOP will be stomped as they were with Barry Goldwater.  He will win TX.  I even wonder is Alabama will vote for the "Messican".

Rubio.  Poor little boy, trying so hard.  His credit card problems will demolish him.

Bush.  Will his own mama told him not to run, and now is saying I told you so.

Listen I will not at this early stage predict  what will happen next year. I think that the voters are jaded.  Hillary comes with baggage, and is not revered as Obama was in 2008.  She will benefit if the right wing nutters come. Obama could easily have lost in 2012, but benefitted when the GOP got in its own way.

Even rich white guys looked at their college age  daughters and swore off voting for the GOP, in case an abortion was needed, or their stupid son got hooked on heroin.  They just didn't trust Romney (their giy) to control his rabid dogs who swore that rape wasn't a big deal.

Maybe the GOP might get their act together and dispatch Cruz.  Who knows, a Bush/Rubio team might draw some serious blood.

I will suggest that all depends on who benefits when Trump/Carson leave the scene, and their 50% of the GOP has to find some else to support.

Let us understand a few things.

1.  Hillary is a consummate politician.  She stands for anything that the last poll tells her that she should stand for. She did vote for the Iraq invasion.  Her politics isn't that different from her husband.  His prison industrial complex actions were aimed in an environment where most whites thought that the democrats were soft on crime.

2. The Democrats did NOT win the white female vote in 2012.

http://www.newyorker.com/news/...voted-for-romney-too

They got about 44% of the white female vote. Note that white females skew older and so a large % are in that middle aged married female category, which is reliably GOP.

The issue is that minority men DO NOT vote, so that the minority vote is very heavily female.  So while the overall minority (including gay) vote is around 30% the % of the female vote which is minority is even higher.

3.  Blacks and Hispanics hate the GOP. In fact Trump has done his best to mobilize Hispanics at a time when they were angered by the fact that Obama had deported more Hispanics in his first term than Bush did in his TWO terms.  So the GOP shoots itself again.

There was more disappointment with Obama among blacks than polls let on.  But the GOP saved Obama by engaging in serious racial animus against him, and in engaging in attempts to squash the black vote which reminded them of 1964.  Blacks, especially those in the South, took this very seriously, even though a mere few months before Jarrett sent Hillary into black beauty parlors to beg them to vote, when polling in some swing states should that many weren't sure that they should.

There is no Obama running this time, just an ageing white woman.  In fact to your shock, you will see Bill trying to bolster black voter turn out, because Hillary, like most northern white politicians, cannot emotionally appeal to blacks, whose cultural orientation remains very Southern. Bill can.

Kari. Here is the reality. Every single survey shows that the best time for blacks in the USA was in Bill Clinton's 2nd term. It has been a steady decline since then, even as the economy recovers, albeit very slowly.  Almost 20% of blacks lost their homes.

So like I said sitting down 1 year before the election, being sure how the various factions will vote isn't wise.  Blacks and Hispanics will NOT vote for the GOP, but there again their voter turn out might sink to 2004 levels, not enough to secure a guaranteed Democratic victory.

What Hillary will have is her appeal to the middle aged, lower middle class white female, who has faced sexism for most of her life, and who will identify with Hillary, as many blacks, and many non white immigrants did with Barack, and especially Michelle O with black women.

But if Hillary turns out to be married to a charlatan, then it is back to the scenario of the 90s Bill marital scandals when many women wanted to know why she didn't toss his ass out.

This will be a soap opera. The most foolish election as the GOP candidates knife themselves to pieces. Let us assume that the Clintons have not done too much bad with that charity of theirs.  If that is the case, then they should be home free.

That is unless a Bush/Rubio ticket forms, in which case Hillary will have to work it.
