Man allegedly impersonates cop, tries to extort teenage girl for cash, sex in Queens

RICHMOND HILL, Queens â€” A man allegedly impersonating an NYPD officer in Queens attempted to force a teenage girl to give him money and sexual favors, police said.

Devenish Seecharan, 25, had police lights on his car, officials said. He allegedly told a 17-year-old girl to get in at 123rd Street and 89th Avenue because she was a "truant."

Seecharan allegedly told the girl he'd let her go if she gave him $200, police said. She said she didn't have the money and Seecharan apparently suggested sexual favors instead.

The girl realized something was going on and secretly called her brother, officials said. She spoke in a way so he would know she was in trouble.

Seecharan eventually told the girl to get out of the car and then he drove away once she was out.

Police got surveillance video of the vehicle and tracked it to an auto body shop where Seecharan works.

He's been charged with impersonating a police officer, grand larceny, harassment and unlawful imprisonment.

My Property is like Fort Knox, cameras at strategic locations, monitored 24/7.

More people should have them installed to apprehend or deter criminals.

Kudos to the very smart young woman. Devenish should be locked away for a very long time. He is a Sicko.

More than 200 cities reviewed in the annual report by MoneySense

More people are becoming aware of the Vaughan Advantage and the many reasons why residents are proud to live, work and play in the city. MoneySense Magazine released its Best Places to Live 2016 report today and the City of Vaughan is ranked 20th out of 219 cities in Canada, up from 38th place in 2015 and 56th in 2014.

Vaughan also ranked among the top 10 cities for a high average household net worth in Canada and achieved top marks for having a low crime rate – which reinforces the City’s image of being one of the safest communities in Canada. Provincially, it ranked eighth overall for offering the best quality of life. The results are ranked within 20 separate categories across each community, and derived from Census data and Statistics Canada information.

With a well-educated workforce and a diverse population of more than 320,000 people who speak 99 languages, Vaughan is one of the fastest-growing municipalities in Canada. It has one of the lowest property taxes in the GTA and is home to more than 11,000 businesses that employ more than 200,000 people. With major city-building initiatives underway, including the Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital, the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre and the Toronto-York Spadina Subway Extension, Vaughan is well on its way to becoming a world-class city.

QUOTE

“It’s clear that our vision of creating a world-class city is becoming a reality and people are taking note of what Vaughan has to offer. Being ranked as a top city in Canada is a reflection of how great it is to live here and of our commitment to putting our citizens first. It is rewarding to see that Vaughan consistently ranks highly as one of the safest communities to live and it’s a testament to the quality of life our residents enjoy. As a growing city we take pride in our diversity and our ability to attract investment, businesses and visitors. This is evident in our healthy job market with less than six per cent unemployment, our strong population growth and low tax rates. With many new and exciting projects underway that are transforming the city, I know the best is yet to come!”
