Throughout its history, the GDF's only claim to fame is stealing ballot boxes during the 1973 elections. No amount of funding will ever make that incompetent group ready to even win a street fight much less a military campaign.

Ram has two advance degrees. Calling him small intellect speaks more of the person calling him small intellect especially since that person only whines like a woman about everything that doesn't support the PNC nonsense.

Banna,

...people dont respond to your post because most of the time dem big words are a distraction...I am always resorting to the use of a dictionary...not a Guyanese one...but Noah Webster.

You did not post the relevant budget source here so we gon go risky here and ASSUME dat you pizzed at a low budget allocation for military (judging by your use of "treasonous").

Now...Guyana needs a strong military given the threat from Venezuela and possibly Suriname...i am sure money from the oil flow will be used to modernize the force in the future too...but do you really think that an increased budget allowance for the military will act as a deterrence to Venezuela?

You attacking de man as "loudmouth, small intellect, small man"...did you use the same words to describe him when he rightfully took on Jagdeo for his Bamboo John comments?

Was he a "darling" then?

BTW, ah tekkin your suggestion for me to use Google to research...SN says ole man Granger was part of a commission that supported modernization and a BALANCED force.

Has the coalition been "treasonous" for not attempting to include balance in the force...or is the silence of the coalition on dis matter a reflection of the govt social cohesion policy?

stuuupps!

Thanks...

I am no expert on budget and finance, but I do think Guyana needs a well equipped, more professional army for 2 reasons:

1) There are enemies at the door...a larger military will deter a country like Suriname on the east...one less country to worry about. Dealing with Venezuela, Brazil and others s potential enemies, in the face of oil finds, will require greater investments in the area of military security.

2) Most people live on the coast in Guyana....internally a strong and professional military can assist with activities in the interior, search and rescue, illicit drug smuggling, etc....

However, while I think Ram did not address this important question in his critique, there is a valid point to be made also for an equitable distribution of the budget....esp in the area of agriculture.

Snowy Roey, again I pose the question to you. What function does the GDF perform to justify their expensive keep? The last time you ran away from your own thread when this question was posed. These jackasses in the GDF were notably absent in the recent Exxon survey boat mishap with the Venezuelans. They are absent as the syndicado invade our borders and rob miners, holding them hostage and extorting "fees" for safe river passage. Now why should the Guyanese fund these overgrown boys scouts to drink and sport while Guyana's security from foreign forces remains under duress.

yeah bai . . . and the solution to this is NOT to provide the funds for them to buy proper naval craft

you're a rale 'genius' banna

Besides the shortfall of not have a naval craft, what else has the GDF done for Guyana to justify its keep? They collaborated with the Buxton criminals and were instrumental in election riggings under the pnc version 1 tenure. Why do they even exist if they are useless and are a political arm of the pnc?

They may have failed in Ankara (Antoko?Ancoko?) but they put down a rebellion in the interior in the 1960s...no?

Like you missed your god's Granger's speech where he conceded that Guyana can never match its neighbors military might given the size of its economy and military spending.  With the exception of Suriname, of which the GDF is afraid, all Guyana's neighbors dwarfs it in the military aspect. From my perspective military spending must be justified, in Guyana's case it is not, the GDF are a bunch overgrown boys scouts who are fed, housed and sported at the expense of the taxpayers without providing value.
