Hopes fading for former world champion Hector 'Macho' Camacho after being shot in the face in Puerto Rico

By  Mike Dawes

Former world boxing champion Hector 'Macho' Camacho is fighting for his life after he was shot in the face as he sat in his Ford Mustang outside a bar near the Puerto Rican capital yesterday.

Doctors originally said he was in a stable condition but longtime friend and former manager Ismael Leandry has revealed his condition has worsened and he could be taken off life support.

Leandry says that doctors are waiting for Camacho's mother to decide whether he should be taken off life support after his heart stopped at least once overnight. She arrived on Wednesday morning at San Juan's Centro Medico from the American mainland and is understandably said to be 'devastated'.

Another man in the car, whose believed to be a friend of the 50-year-old, died in the attack in which at least one gunman opened fire on their vehicle in the city of Bayamon, according to a statement from police.
