… GECOM convenes emergency meeting to address issue

Following the decision from the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM), in relation to the 20,000-odd alleged new registrants under the house to house registration exercise, which was released on Friday, the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) scrutiny of the data has revealed a high percentage of flaws in the data.

According to a source from the PPP/C, “they are very high numbers of duplicates on the list of possible new registrants released by GECOM. In some cases, we have found that even dead persons appear on the list of new registrants.”

Notably, also speaking on this matter Friday, former Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Mohabir Anil Nandlall, stated that “…the PPP had vehemently rejected the use of any data generated from the house to house exercise because of the manner in which it was compiled, that it was never subjected to any form of public scrutiny, including the Claims and Objections exercise, and that it was riddled with factual inaccuracies, such as, that persons could not have been found at addresses stated and persons at those addresses are unaware of the identities of some of these persons, misspelling of names and erroneous biographic data.”

Further, the Leader of the Opposition, Bharrat Jagdeo, on his Facebook page, on Saturday, stated that “Even the former Chancellor of the Judiciary, Cecil Kennard, is listed as a ‘new registrant’ even though his name is already on the PLE. 100% verification is a MUST.”

At his most recent press conference, Thursday (12th December 2019), Jagdeo stated that the PPP will accept the data once it is subject to a 100 percent verification exercise to be done by GECOM.”

Citizens’ Report have been informed that GECOM has convened an emergency meeting, in order to review the decision taken on Friday. According to sources from within GECOM, the GECOM Secretariat reported to the Chairperson that the list of possible new registrants were vetted by the IT Department and no errors or queries were found.

You all need to go back to the archives and read Boyce Ramkarran's "Maneuver to avoid general elections" from the late seventies. It was about the PNC using the referendum of 1978 to delay the general elections  that was constitutionally due no later than the said year.  Amral is half correct to say that the elections will be shifted to May. It  might shift to 2021.

possible election date will change to May now

That means the PNC won the elections without a vote cast. It all shows that the NV didn't mean a thing, elections supposed to be in May so ayuh wait till May. General Granger in Command.

Or maybe never. Unless the incompetent and despotic PNC fvck the country up so bad they too don't want to spend their lazy selves fixing it.
