Linden Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ Competition … All Stars Simon 4-goal act destroys Swag Entertainment

– Silver Bullets finish third

Diminutive striker Kenard Simon produced the performance of his life, slamming in four goals to secure the Linden Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ title for Dave & Celena All Stars on Saturday night, at the Mackenzie Market Tarmac.

Playing against Swag Entertainment in front of a capacity crowd that included Guinness Brand Manager Lee Baptiste, Outdoor Events Manager Mortimer Stewart, Linden Branch Manager Shundel Easton, Dave & Celena All Stars romped to a convincing 5-0 win and in the process waltzed away with $400,000, championship trophy and a spot in the National Playoffs.
Simon, who has demonstrated his immense skill in the shorter version of the game, was simply unstoppable, netting in the -6th, 25th, 26h and 35th minutes, while the prolific Keon Sears added the other in the 8th to complete the rout.
Simon opened his account by guiding a pass from the centre into an empty goal, before Sears made it 2-0 when he fired his effort through the legs of the opposing defender.
Swag Entertainment who came into the final with an impressive record was kept on the defensive as the experienced Rawle ‘Boney’ Gittens marshaled his forces with the astuteness of a seasoned veteran.
Securing a comfortable lead in the first period, Gittens and company playing with plenty confidence were able to keep possession for a large portion of the half as it seemed as though their opponents were afraid to come forward for fear of being counter-attacked and clearly failed to threaten the All Stars backline.
The half came with the All Stars in the ascendancy and definitely the more confident unit.
Coming out of the break Sears and Simon working in tandem continued their assault on Swag Entertainment defence and it seemed just a matter of time before they increased their lead.
Simon was the player to do so, five minutes after the resumption when he dribbled past his marker to fire into an empty goal for a 3-0 lead.
He was back in action one minute later this time sweeping in across from the right side to make it 4-0 and completed his tally with a cracking shot from just outside the circle to put the game out of Swag Entertainment’s reach five minutes before full time.
Swag Entertainment playing with desperation had a few chances, but solid defending wiped out those threats as the All Stars coasted to the finish line.
For their efforts, Swag Entertainment collected $150,000 and a trophy along with a place in the National Playoffs.
In the third place game, Jermaine & Family Silver Bullets through goals from Robin Adams and Jermaine Samuels in the10th and 35th minutes beat last year’s champion Team 25 2-0 to claim the $75,000, while the latter went home with $50,000.
However, they both have made it to the National Playoffs set for later this year.
The next stop in the Guinness Series will be in Bartica early in the new month.
