carib bhai:

No question about it---PPP politicians will help themselves big time---but they are not stupid---no way they will park their loot in Miami.

MONIES STOLEN BY PPP OFFICIALS WILL REMAIN IN GUYANA.

Carib bhai:

Credit must, indeed, be given to Barbados---their GDP growth rate until 2007 was remarkable.

But 78% of the Barbadian economy is service related--and since 2008 Barbados has struggled.

COMPARING BARBADOS & GUYANA GDP GROWTH RATE SINCE 2008:

YEAR....BARBADOS....GUYANA

2008.....-0.18%.......2.6%

2009.....-4.68%.......3.3%

2010.......0.34%......3.6%

2011.......2.0%.......4.7%

Guyana's GDP gowth rate will continue in an upward trajectory in the coming years---Barbados will continue to struggle.

But no question about it---Barbados has a delightful success.

Rev

Rev Al. Here is the deal 5% on 2,000=2,100. -1% on 4,000=3,960.

So Barbados, 166 squares miles on dry and almost barren soil with one third the population of Guyana has an economy which is at least double ours, despite our fertile soils, not all cultivated, and vast untapped potential in all forms of agriculture, mining, and forestry and the possibilities of manufacturing spin offs.

BTW many affluent Guyanese hedge their bests in Barbados, fearful of Guyana. They see stability in Barbados, and a coruupt drug fueled dictatorship in Guyana.

carib:

You wont get a word of criticism from the Rev regarding Barbados. I have only praises for the land of the flying fish---give jack his jacket--Barbados GDP growth rate until 2008 was remarkable.

The problem Barbados faces going forward is its economy is nearly 80% service based---any global slowdown will negatively impact Barbados---you have seen the small economic decline since 2008.

Guyana's economy is more diversified---agri, industry, service, etc---and with major foreign direct investments in the pipeline---Guyana will see some welcome growth in the next 5 years.

So why then is the GDP of Barbados over 2X that of Guyana? Arent you embarrassed that 300k people in 166 sq miles produce double what 750K people on 83k squares miles do?

Yes well the thousands of Guyanese in Barbados say "thank God for Barbados I can actually feed my family".

Now how many Bajans flock to Guyana. Or you probably would rather the flock to North Korea that only pure communist "paradise" left on earth.

Oh and BTW shoe shining is a valid economic activity once people are paid for their services. On the other hand when your North Korean "hero" force shis people to march that doesnt.

carib:

You need to educate yourself more about how GDP is calculated.

I'm sure you already know that GDP represents the total economic output of a country---the value of all goods and services produced.

Now, in current prices, Guyana's GDP per capita is $2945; Barbados $11,718

Does that mean the people of Barbados are 3.98 times more productive than the people of Guyana ?

ABSOLUTELY NOT!

The majority of the Barbadian GDP is derived from tourism, business, and finance.

Check this:

Let's say 300,000 tourists visited Brabados in 2011---and let's assume each spent on hotel, food, shopping, airline, etc, etc---$3350----what contribution did those 300,000 tourist make to the barbadian GDP ?

ANS: Over 1 billion dollars

So dont chat nonsense to the Rev about the people of Barbados being 3.9 times more productive than the people of Guyana.

If you were to tell me that the service sector in Barbados is waaaay more productive than the agriculture and industrial sectors in Guyana in GDP contribution you won't get any argument from me---but cut the crap about Bajans being more productive than Guyanese.

Rev forget about airline travel as they arrive on foreign carriers. Now when last I checked the tourists paid for services rendered. They stayed in hotels, they spent money in restaurants, went on tours, etc, and these expenditures, minus leakages, were converted to GDP. Remember that with high foreign ownership, and massive use in imported inputs there is much leakage from the tourism sector. Yet their GDP is 2X Guyana.

You put Guyana in an even MORE negative light.

haiti has better beaches than barbados and is closer to the USA. Yet you know how poor they are.

Nonsense, Haiti is a different animal all together. The country is severely overpopulated with 10 million people fighting over scarce resources such as food land and jobs plus an unstable political environment. The lazy Barbadians kick back and the Whites provide them jobs and tax revenue via the tourist industry.

Guyana tourism will have a difficult time to take off if Carib brothers continue to Choke and Rob and terrorise tourists.

Guyana needs another brave minister in the PPP to clean the streets of PNC thugs.

carib:

Let's turn to the finance sector in Barbados--as you know the Offshore banking sector in Barbados is huge.

Read this:

quote:
International banking and financial houses have been attracted to Barbados as a result of its tax incentives, the high quality of professional services and the reputation of Barbados as a reputable Offshore Banking Center.

Summary of benefits

Tax at the rate of 1% (on profits over US$15 million), up to 2.5% (profits up to US$5 Million)
No direct tax or capital gains
No withholding tax
No exchange control

Link

You see carib--if the afro guyanese were as well behaved as afro Barbadians, Guyana could have been a stable country and could have attracted International banking.

DO YOU NOW UNDERSTAND WHY BARBADOS GDP PER CAPITA IS WAAAAY SUPERIOR TO GUYANA'S ?

Ans: More civilized people live in Barbados.

International bankers dont want to see this:

This is the third or fourth time you have attempted to claim that I somehow approve of the government of North Korea or Cuba. I take this as an indication that you are utterly helpless and unable to construct any sort of argument in defense of your odd neocon world view. You have my sincere sympathy.
