Legendary NBA player Kobe Bryant has died in a California helicopter crash, reports said Sunday.

He was 41.

Bryant was among at least four people traveling in his private helicopter over Calabasas when a fire broke out, sending the chopper spiraling from the sky, according to TMZ Sports.

The crash occurred around 10 a.m. local time amid foggy conditions in the hills overlooking Calabasas, with the chopper sparking a brush fire on impact that hampered initial rescue efforts, according to The Los Angeles Times.

NBA Basketball icon Kobe Bryant, 41, has reportedly died in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California, on Sunday.

TMZ reported the Bryant was in his private helicopter with at least three other people when it started to crash.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department said at least five people died in the crash.

Kobe Bryant is an NBA legend

Bryant is a former NBA basketball star who spent his 20-season career entirely with the Los Angeles Lakers. He is also the third all-time scorer in the NBA and won five NBA championships.

Bryant was born on August 23, 1978 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, but lived in Italy, where his father played basketball, for most of his childhood. In 1996, Bryant joined the NBA right after graduating from high school.

During his NBA career, Bryant proved his icon status. He used to hold the record for all-time points in the NBA until LeBron James surpassed him on Saturday, January 25.

He was often referred to by his self-given nickname "The Black Mamba," a type of snake, that signified his prowess and competitive attitude on the court. Bryant is the second-highest-paid NBA playerever and has $323 million from his NBA career salary alone.

In 2016, Bryant retired from the NBA, and in his final game he set yet another record for the organization.

Bryant was married to his wife Vanessa Bryant and has four children with her: Bianka, Gianna, Natalia, and Capri, their youngest child they had in June.

I agree. Prash is out of line here.

Out of line. I am telling you what the man had to put up with. But the man walked to the beat of his own drum. And that is what life is all about. The man was his own man. It is very unfortunate and sad that he and his daughter  passed so young. It makes all of us see how precious and unpredictable life is. So love all your love ones regardless of the circumstances because life is like test cricket it is filled with glorious uncertainties.

COSTA MESA, Calif. -- John Altobelli, a highly successful baseball coach at Orange Coast College, was among the victims of the helicopter crash that killed NBA legend Kobe Bryant on Sunday morning. Altobelli died alongside his wife, Keri, and his 13-year-old daughter, Alyssa, the family confirmed to ESPN.

The three were traveling with Bryant and his daughter, Gianna, to a youth basketball game when the helicopter crashed in Calabasas, California. Alyssa and Gianna, who is also 13, were teammates. Altobelli, 56, coached at OCC for 27 years, leading the Pirates to four state titles and more than 700 wins.

"He kind of gets overshadowed by Kobe a little bit," OCC associate baseball coach Nate Johnson said, "but he was his own Kobe of the junior college baseball world."

What do we know about Kobe Bryant's helicopter?

The Sikorsky S-76B, which is made by Lockheed Martin, can carry up to 12 passengers and has a top speed of 178mph.

It reportedly costs $13m (about ÂĢ10m).

On the company website it is billed as an aircraft specialising in search and rescue and VIP and executive transportation.

Sikorsky models are used by Donald Trump and nine other global heads of state.

His specific helicopter — registration N72EX — was built in 1991.

A report said: "Given his broken finger, his fragile knees, his sore back and achy feet, not to mention his chronic agita, Bryant can't sit in a car for two hours.

"The helicopter, therefore, ensures that he gets to Staples Center feeling fresh, that his body is warm and loose and fluid as mercury when he steps onto the court."

His parents wanted him to marry a black woman instead he married a Mexican. He had not spoken to his parents in many years. Hopefully his family heals with his early passing.

Who the F'k really cares? The man and his daughter are dead, pay respects to him and his family.

In the end, a man will follow his heart and his loli.
