Opposition Leader Bharrat Jagdeo Thursday said he sympathized with the Chairman of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) Justice (rt’d) Claudette Singh after she advised the President that the elections body will be able to hold elections at the end of February next year.

He appeared to accept that the advice was based on the plans of the Secretariat which he has been extremely critical of, saying their plans were based on proposals by the main party in Government, the PNC.

“I have great faith in the fairness and impartiality in the chair of GECOM. I don’t think she will do anything to rig the elections.

“She has to rely on a Secretariat that is unreliable at best,” Jagdeo stated at a press conference at his Church Street, Georgetown office.

“We hope the date is in February itself,” Jagdeo stated.

While conceding to the proposal by the GECOM chairman, the Opposition Leader said he was extremely disappointed since the Chairman had told both the Government and the Opposition that she was working to have elections by the end of the year.

However, he urged PPP supporters not to attack the Chairman of GECOM.

“There should be no disparaging statement made about the chairperson. I have made it clear how we view her – I have great faith in her impartiality and that she will not tolerate any rigging. That is critical for us,” Jagdeo stated.

“I know the environment she is working in.”

Opposition Leader Bharrat Jagdeo Thursday said that the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) will continue to target President David Granger with protest after forcing him through an alternative route to get into the Pegasus Hotel in Georgetown at noon.

The President arrived at the venue to speak at an event organised by the Guyana Manufacturers and Services Association (GMSA) and was met by a vociferous crowd, forcing him away from the hotel’s main entrance. His security team then whisked him into the conference room at the hotel through another entrance.

“He must keep going through backdoors and kitchens,” Jagdeo said at a press conference at his Church Street, Georgetown office.

The President was interrupted at the start of his speech by PPP Parliamentarians Juan Edgehill, Nigel Dharamalall and others.

The President had said he survived “hooliganism” to get to the venue and it was then that the protest in the conference room erupted.

Once the protesters left, the President said he hoped the intellectual authors could stop what they started.

Jagdeo, speaking at the press conference, said he viewed the President’s statement as a threat. But he said the President didn’t have to wonder about the intellectual authors of the protest. It was the PPP, Jagdeo declared.

The Opposition Leader said he was disappointed with the end-February date proposed by the Chairman of the Guyana Elections Commission. The President now has to name a specific date.

“We will keep this (protests) up until he names the date.”

Granger described a  peaceful protest as hooliganism.  This is utterly bias. Looting, burning, and acts of violence against innocent men, women, and children by PNC protesters is not hooliganism in his eyes.

Jagdeo has failed his people. He has no faith in his supporters But he has faith in Claudette Singh, despite her nastiness and selling he country out to the PNC. Jagdeo still feels that Claudette is neutral and don’t want people to talk bad about her. He still feels that she will not engage in rigging the election. Let me tell you something, who the fk is Jagdeo to tell me not to say anything bad about Claudette. Jagdeo is a disgrace to his supporters. Jagdeo is no different from Jim Jones telling his people to go drink coolaid.

If he sees that as hooliganism, how would he see this?

I agree. I don't think Jagdeo should give any legitimacy to the Coalition from today until the next elections. He needs to keep considering them usurpers. If he and the PPP start behaving that it is no big deal, then the ABCE countries will read into that that everything is honky dorey. The PPP needs to stand its ground on this matter. Granger and the PNC has already put on their uncivilized clothes. No need to camouflage their wickedness.

Ok i frigging confused. The chairman says election can be held by end of Feb 2020.

So why is Jagdeo is protesting for a date. Give it a few days and then protest.

My gut tells me that Granger will pick Burnham’s Birthday February 23, 2020.

Jagdeo sold out the PPP. he moved the goal post for an election from March 2019 to February 2020[MAYBE]

He made a deal with Granger, No charges and he will toe along. They might as well have the election the usual date, May 2020.

PPP cork duck, they got ****ed and even B uggered by Granger with help from Jagdeo. Sad Day for Democracy in Guyana, Screw the constitution.

I don't blame the PNC, they can SMELL the Oil WEALTH, why give it UP NOW!!!!

Read between the lines, Jagdeo has quietly and underhandedly legitimized the Coalition by his faith in the neutrality and impartiality in Claudette Singh and all her actions so far. She even talks about “credible” elections rather than free and fair elections. The word “ credible” is the language of Granger and now Claudette Singh. The rigging machine will be headed by Claudette Singh, mark  my words.

Granger is not “civil”. He is evil and evil people don’t care about calling election on Sundays. BTW in America if election is called on a Sunday there will be huge black turnouts when church is over. Dem people like Sundays.
