Wally, Joey mis-spoke. He should have said 'mental' rather than 'civic'.

Look, why anyone bothers about Joey the Joker? He went back to Guyana and opposed his own father, Cheddi Jagan. He attacked Comrade Cheddi, calling him a failure as communist. Comrade Cheddi would never include him in his government so he teamed up with Max Hamoman and formed a party. That thing called Liberal Democratic something folded up before the race started.
What legacy is he protecting? The legacy of forming a second party where he alone was riding a horse as his symbol, in opposition to his father's party and government?
Joey is still Leader of the United Party, an anti-PPP thing.
I remember this chap embarassing his father's party and government when he behaved bad at the GPL, and threw himself down in the headquarters of the power company.
Is that how he protected his father's legacy?
Then, only the other day, I read where he said that Guyana corrupt from top to bottom. Who made it this way? Who corrupted his father's legacy?
The very people he now see as saviour.
Then there is the other joker Leslie Ramsammy who said that he returned to Guyana to fulfill Dr. Jagan's dreams. What a fake! This man went back to Guyana and formed his own political party. He attacked Dr. Jagan and the PPP as communist, but no one followed him, and his party received one vote in 1992. He then made a flip and jumped on the PPP bandwagon. What an opportunist.
Joey and Leslie are two peas in one pod. These peas would make the PPP soup taste real good for others like Bynoe, Kwame, Lumumba, Hamilton and Gaumattie.
comrade
I recently heard Joey saying on Benschop radio that his father and mother took the Guyanese voters for granted. I respect the man for saying that. How many of you here would have the courage to be critical of your fathers in public.

This Churchill is bashing and degrading people all of the time. He just attacked Joey earlier. Every opportunity this man gets he curses out some innocent person for his problems.

Comrade, you may call Joey whatever names you like.
As the only son of Dr Cheddi Jagan and comrade Janet Jagan, Joey is the ultimate authority to speak about his father's legacy. Joey has more right to speak for the Jagans than anyone else. Whether or not he had differences with his parents does not matter. That happens in many families. In the end, blood is thicker than water.

Rights and credibility are two different things. Joey's track record [as an adult] with his parents does not show a credible realtionship, for him to speak favourable about them.
My first contact with Joey was not a positive one. After completing a video interview with JJ at Freedom House regarding her relationship with Cheddi, I telephoned Joey and invited him to do the same about his father.
Even though he did not know me, he burst out with a string of cuss words for his mother and entire family. History has shown that this is not the first time for such behaviour and Joey does not seem to have any positive political direction, where he might be aiming.

In my opinion, Joey is not credible to speak about CJ legacy or anything positive regarding the realtionship with his family. The only reason the PPP accepted him and his son is because of their name, which they hope might attract a few votes.
Tola
I know many members of the Jagan family and they are all good and respectful people. Joey is known as an unpredictable loose cannon sometimes. What I like about the guy is that he does not back down from a political fight because of fear etc. His sister also sometimes has a temper but if you get to know her she can be a very nice person

This is such an absurdity. Why is Joey the ultimate authority on what is the legacy of his father? His father already lived and died and his legacy is writ in stone at this point. It is context for whoever cares to turn it into text. No one can control history. It is what it is and as many will tell of it as has seen it happen or investigated what occurred.

"Political blood" is also thicker than water.

In the Jagan family, biological and political blood are indistinguishable. I remember comrade Cheddi telling us that politics was in the air he breathed.
Their genes ie family arrangements is not about our political identity. Politics is about a polis and ours is not a kingdom so the art of running the polis does not reduce itself to the voice of any family living in it even if they may delude themselves such is the case. We the people are the demos and our viewpoints on democracy are not subservient to any family sharing the same social space with us either.

Genes are biology, memes are about creative communicable expressions of social life. The CBJ family get to control the outcome of their genetic expression and we ours. Likewise, the CBJ family's mimetic contribution are to be distilled to separate the information from the noise no less than with any other memetic contribution in the social ethos. They are not remotely the sole source of our memes.

These kids were privileged and spoilt.

Every PPP member in the old days would move mountains and (in the case of Moses) seas for those kids.

For example; if one of Bookman's girlfriend told him at 2 am in the morning that she wanted him to get the moon, the sun and stars for her. He would say "Woman just let me sleep".

If young Joey visited Bookman at 2 am in the morning and said Bookman I want you to get the moon, the sun and stars for me. Bookman would say don't worry Joey I will go and get my ladder and get them for you.

Wally, for me the entire Jagan family is sacred. Too bad if you can't accept that. To each his own. Further I say not.
