The owner of a popular Zeeburg, West Coast Demerara (WCD) business was on Wednesday evening assaulted by armed bandits just before his entity was robbed of approximately $2.3M in cash.

According to information received from Police “D” Division Commander, Leslie James, the robbery took place around 20:30hrs.

INews was told that the owner of Guy-America, 61-year-old Mohamed Ali of Zeeburg, WCD was in the process of closing his business when two bandits, one of whom was armed with a “long gun”, entered the store.

The suspects reportedly began to threaten Ali while demanding that he turn over his cash and valuables. When the 61-year-old entrepreneur hesitated, the bandit holding the gun sought to hit Ali several times over the head, causing the elderly man to bleed.

This online publication was informed that the bandits, through out the ordeal which lasted approximately 15 minutes, stole $2.3M as well as other valuables including Ali’s mobile phone.

They then fled the scene in a silver/grey Toyota Premio which was waiting outside of the business premises.

The “D” Division Commander noted that according to the reports received, the perpetrators fled the scene in the western direction –heading to Parika.

So far, no one was arrested for the crime.

Efforts to contact the owner of the business on Thursday morning proved futile.

From what I can remember in the 70's ,it looks like Mandall's building, the business was sold many years ago.

I thought so. I didn't know it was sold. Raymond Mandall was my classmate at Zeeburg Secondary and I last saw him in 1996. Thanks, KP.

This Brother is a fair-skin guy who once managed a gas station around Ruby EBD? And, the Leonora store was opposite the police station by Cow Dam junction?
