I can see a man reduced to shambles as he tries to provide answers

Dear Editor,

As a Guyanese, I have often considered the negative effects of racism on the development of this beautiful and potentially rich country.

As I looked on at the case- Jagdeo vs. Kissoon, it is a lesson in barefacedness. Mr. Kissoon as a sane and intelligent Guyanese plainly stated that Mr. Jagdeo is a racist. Jagdeo in turn sues claiming that by extension Kissoon is calling his administration racist. Most leaders would have sat down and considered the remarks made by Kissoon and take steps to address the matter. Jagdeo on the other hand has gone on the offensive.

The mountain of evidence that Kissoon’s defence team is piling up on Mr. Luncheon is most embarrassing. The trouble is Jagdeo must have known of all these things but to him blacks should be content to live under these conditions. Some may ask why? Three of Jagdeo’s senior party officials are black but they refuse to speak up and speak out against anything he says or does to their own people.

I have always said if I could find a scale that could weigh this thing called courage; the results would be sobering. It seems to me that the sum total of the courage found in Sam Hinds, Roger Luncheon and Odinga Lumumba will not equate that found in Freddie Kissoon. The way Mr. Jagdeo operates demonstrates a total disregard for common sense or facts.

The behavior of Mr. Jagdeo is worse than F.W DeKlerk or P.K. Botha of South Africa. They at least acknowledged that their policies towards blacks were hostile. This is the same attitude which is displayed on the question of drugs in this country. The government refuses to acknowledge and deal with this menace which has been costing Guyanese dearly.

The scale of corruption in this country is off the chart. Instead of addressing this issue, again, Jagdeo blames the publishers of the reports. It seems to me that here is a man who has no moral compass or concern for facts.

The sight of Mr. Luncheon hobbling into the courtroom is more than pathetic. As the defence team piles on the questions I can see a man reduced to shambles as he tries to provide answers.

The gall of Mr. Luncheon in stating that the government could not find qualified blacks for the senior positions almost caused me to vomit. Are we to believe that Khellawan Lall is better than the best black man or woman in Guyana? I think it is fair to say that money and status are good if they come with dignity intact. Luncheon’s performance and his fumbling explanations point to a man who has been stripped of all self-respect.

I am aware that government ministers and political supporters should show some loyalty to their government and party. However, even those appointments should not deprive men of their backbone or testicles.

Mr Jagdeo should drop this case. It will do immense damage to the party and Mr. Ramoutar come elections. Mr Jagdeo needs to think BIG picture with regards to the Party and not his own personal urge for revenge against Freddie and Kaiteur News. Sometimes you have to lose a few battles so that you can win the WAR!

Jagdeo seeems to be driven by his ego, its almost like a person winning the lottery, where the instant richness destroy many.
Within a short time Jagdeo was elevated from a nobody to the president of a country. He used and abuse his power as a one-man show. Unfortunately, those leaches around him did not have the balls to challenge him for the sake of the PPP and one is running to replace him.
They allowed him to have his way, which destroyed the party and in the process destroy the lives of many ordinary folks in Guyana.
