Hope – Old Scheme

What is known as the Old Scheme at Hope Estate lies at the far end of the village. Initially, it was known as Plantation Hope, but that was when the residents lived in logies.

Old Scheme is a quaint, close-knit community, where children still play on the road and hangout at neighbours’ homes.

Most of the residents are farmers; some do it full time, while others farm part time while holding down other jobs as maintenance workers with the Neighbourhood Democratic Council, or as drivers and teachers. Some residents work on the nearby coconut estate; several others have rented parts of the estate to do their own private farming, selling their produce wholesale or taking it to the Annandale or Mon Repos markets on Saturdays.

I worked for an entity under the Guystac umbrella for 8 years and never went to Hope Estate. Every time our boss says that we have to go to Hope Estate, I would tell him that I will not go. Everyone knew that I didn’t like Burnham so it was easy for them to know that I was serious. I was never the kind of person who adhere to anything I deem improper and I had already determined that everything about the PNC was improper.

Hope estate was owned by Sankar, the father of Lila Kissoon. Sankar Brothers also sold cars.  Burnham bought a car from them and never paid for it. When they repossessed the car, Burnham retaliated and β€œTEK” Hope Estate.

That is how blacks operate. Wrang and strang.

why such a general statement...that is racist

Bai, I make comments for effect. However, I could be influenced into less generalization if I see an army of Guyanese blacks join the protests and pressure the PNC into abandoning their current position of illegally squatting in office. I am not as bent in my ways as it seems.

Ask Ramakant--he went in that trench and came out missing parts.

I used to go there to play cricket. I was the Opening fast bowler and middle-order batsman.

I went there again once and took part in Track and field.  I won the 880 yards and 1-mile race.

I remember you used to applaud me every time I hit the ball into the boundary.  Thank you for retrieving the ball from the trench.

PS: I know Saheed Sankar and his children.

Why are they not doing that?

It's only two months after the PPP took over the government. You have to be patient. They will come to that.  One business at a time.  They started with sugar, rice, fisheries, manufacturing, energy, etc.  Ali and Jagdeo are not gods or magicians.  They did in two months what the PNC and ADC couldn't do 5 1/2 years.

So stop pissing on the wind.

Ramaji, I see your younger Brudda Corbin is in the hospital. You guys are about the same age, 70+.

Corbin is 72/73 years old. You should know by now how physically fit I am. I exercise every day since 1997. I don't drink and I don't smoke. I eat a balanced meal each day. I don't have a problem with my health. Regular check-ups did the trick.  You have the same opportunity as me to be physically fit. take care and be safe.
