Historic win for APNU candidates in Good Hope/Hydronie LAAs

– Khadija Mc Lenan at Le Destin; Constituency had been controlled by PPP for 26 years

– Linden Fowler at Farm

History was created at the recently concluded Local Government Elections (LGE) when the A Partnership for National Unity won five seats in the National Democratic Council (NDC) of Good Hope/Hydronie in Region Three, Essequibo Islands-West Demerara.

Good Hope/Hydronie NDC with 14 seats, had always been a stronghold of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP). Of five seats won by the APNU, two are constituency representatives with Khadija Mc Lenan winning the Le Destin Constituency and Linden Fowler the Farm Constituency. The Le Destein Constituency had been controlled by the PPP for the last 26 years. The other three seats were won by Proportional Representation.

APNU candidate, Khadija Mc Lenan who won the constituency of Le Destin.

Speaking directly to the Department of Public Information (DPI), Khadija Mc Lenan expressed her appreciation to the voters of her constituency who have entrusted her with the responsibility of representing their interest at the local level.

“This is indeed a historic victory because tradition had it for the PPP. This victory is a testimony to the fact that persons voted for the most suitable candidate and I am elated to know that I am viewed that way. Let me thank all my supporters especially the ones that directly voted for me and commit to serving them with distinction,” Mc Lenan said.

Linden Fowler is a seasoned politician and councillor within his constituency. He formerly ran under the PPP banner but this year switched sides and ran with the APNU.

“People in my constituency voted for the person that has always worked for them and not for no political party. I have a track record in this community and it is a good one. If it wasn’t then I would have lost,” Fowler remarked.

Both constituency candidates elected, promised to work in the best interest of their constituents while still holding the still PPP-controlled NDC accountable to the electorate.

Fowler was reportedly notorious as a PPP "bad man". He & PPP parted company only recently. Congrats to him anyway. Democracy in action. But we gon take back Good Hope/Hydronie in 2020.

Gil. I agree, democracy in action. That’s how I like it. Fair and square, no rigging.

I have serious doubts about free and fair In 2020 since the PNC would be very concerned. The PPP made inroads at LGE in GT and PPP also took Lethem away from AFC and PNC.

Moses and Ramjattan failed their party very  badly and whatever is left of the grassroots should be asking hard questions about their support for local AFC candidates during the LGE campaign. These two chaps are very scampish and selfish.

Jagdeo taught the PPP a lesson on how to galvanize and energize the base, supporting  candidates and diversifying the list of candidates. This should be the new standard going forward for the PPP.

Truly? Didn't know. Thanks.

Jinnah was planning to overthrow Burnham and his plot was uncovered. When he found out the kabaka had big plans for him, he skedaddle to Surinam, then went to Holland and finally ended up in England.  He is Nagamootoo personal assistant.
