Herstelling man battered to death – at home

A 43-year-old joiner of Lot 66 Herstelling Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara was bludgeoned to death in his home yesterday morning.Nathan Persaud was home alone at the time after his three sons left home for work and classes and they later got a message that he was killed.

One of the man’s sons, Nathan Persaud Jr., told this newspaper that he was at classes when a sibling telephoned him to say that he should go home and when he arrived there he saw a crowd and the police.

The 17-year-old, distraught but composed, said the battered body of his father was found in a pool of blood between the kitchen and living room and lying nearby were a hammer and a knife, which were lodged with the police.

He disclosed that neighbours heard loud screams and after looking out to enquire, they saw a tall man sporting an Afro hairstyle exiting the yard. They then thought that something was amiss.

They ventured over to the Persauds and found the body in the house and informed the police and the man’s sons.

The younger Persaud told the Chronicle that his father was murdered and it was not a robbery but a cold-blooded and well-orchestrated homicide because the killer gained entry through an open door and only left with a laptop.

He said nothing was disturbed in the house and the motive behind the murder was puzzling. According to the man’s sons, they have no trouble with anyone.

The sons believe that whoever committed the brutal act knew that their father was alone at home and went there to kill him.

Police reported that no arrests have yet been made but they are continuing the probe.

Persaud’s body was found at about 10:00hrs yesterday with wounds to his head and he was pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).

The man was brutally bludgeoned to the head and rendered unconscious, and bled to death within a short time, reports said.

Herstelling murder link to property dispute being probed — Police arrest ex-wife of deceased

http://guyanachronicle.com/her...ex-wife-of-deceased/

RANKS of the Criminal Investigation Department were, up to late last evening, questioning Gwendolyn Persaud to extract any vital information she may have in relation to the death of her ex-husband, 46-year-old Nathan Persaud, who was murdered in his Herstelling, East Bank Demerara home on Thursday while home alone.Police sources have confirmed that the man’s ex-wife has been arrested for questioning because she just might have a motive to influence the death of her former husband.

The police were yesterday fed with information, that after their separation, the two people had not been on terms, as the woman had wanted the man’s property but that was not something the man was willing to give up so easily. As such, their dispute had begun to engage the court’s attention.

Picked up from her home on Friday, the woman was, up to late last evening, not cooperating with the police as they questioned her. Persons close to the family had informed the police of the couple’s dispute over the property.

Up to late last evening, police had received no word or information on the man who had been seen walking away from the home of the deceased shortly before his dead body was discovered sprawled on the floor of his home.

The police were told that the woman had reportedly contracted the suspect, who is thus far unknown, to eliminate her husband so that she can inherit the home which they once shared as husband and wife.

A post-mortem yesterday found 20 stab wounds on the man’s body, which actually caused his demise. Police sources indicate that the man had sustained 13 wounds to the head and another 7 to the back, all of which confirmed he had received blunt and sharp injuries.

The Herstelling community was plunged into a state of mourning yesterday when word got around that Nathan was found murdered in his home. His son had earlier left their home for the road.

Relatives are disputing any theorising that the killing was robbery-related, as nothing in the home was ransacked. On Thursday, the man’s sons, who lived at the home with him, told police and reporters that they have no problem with anyone.

They said that the only thing taken from the home was a laptop, and that the persons who had entered the home had gained entry from one point and had left using another.

There were reports in other sections of the media that the man who had reportedly committed the act had been spotted by persons as he left the crime scene very calmly and composed, as if nothing had gone wrong.

Block-maker’s death

was a paid hit –

police source

Estranged wife in custody,

claims murdered man had planned to kill her

Murdered: Nathan Persaud

Murdered: Nathan Persaud

In a surprising turn of events,

detectives probing the death of 42-year-old Nathan Persaud,

who was allegedly beaten to death on Tuesday last,

have arrested his estranged wife.

The woman was taken into custody

a few hours after Persaud’s body was found in his living room

with a stab wound to the chest,

and his head bashed in with a hammer.

While police cannot connect the dots

into the block-maker’s death as yet,

they claimed that his estranged partner

is providing vital information which can very well

lead to an early breakthrough in this case.

Kaieteur News was informed that Persaud and his wife

were engaged in a bitter dispute over a property

located at the entrance of

Diamond New Scheme, East Bank Demerara (EBD).

The woman allegedly told detectives

that while she had nothing to do with the block-maker’s death,

she was informed that her former spouse

had concocted a plot with two men to execute her.

The woman claimed that

she however ignored the warnings.

Police said that they have gathered enough evidence

which indicates that Persaud’s death was a paid hit.

It is believed that Persaud’s killer travelled

to his Lot 66 Herstelling New Scheme, EBD home from the city.

They are basing their theory

on the fact that the killer spent a little over 20 minutes

asking residents in the area for directions to Persaud’s home.

The suspect allegedly

had his victim’s address written on a piece of paper.

“It’s very clear that he (suspect)

didn’t know where he was going.

I am certain he never met the man he killed,”

a police source said.

There are also reports that a resident from the area,

after receiving a description of the alleged killer,

said that she was in a mini bus

with an individual who fitted the killer’s description.

The suspect is reportedly fair in complexion,

about six feet tall with afro-hair style.

He was wearing a pair of blue pants

and was carrying a blue haversack.

Yesterday, when this newspaper revisited the scene,

an individual, claiming to have seen the suspected killer,

said that she was in the area on Tuesday

when the man approached her.

“He had a piece of paper and

he asked me if I know where Lot 66 is located

and I tell him that I am not from the area

and he walk away.”

two days before Persaud was killed,

someone had telephoned him

and threatened to end his life.

“The killer called him two days before

and tell him ‘I am coming to kill you’,”

a relative said.

She further explained that

Persaud had confided in his sons.

“He told his sons that his life was in danger

and that he has to leave the country.”

This newspaper was informed that Persaud

was waiting on the court matter to end.

“He tell his sons that once the court matter finish,

he will transfer his shares in their names and

he will go and get his visa and

leave the country because he is scared,”

the relative said.

Persaud’s body was discovered around 09:45 hrs

on Thursday by neighbours.

The back of his head was bashed in and

detectives recovered a hammer,

two knives and a piece of rock,

all of which had blood stains.

Neighbours said that

they heard the man screaming earlier in his house

but they were too scared to enter his home

since they were all females.

“We called the (Providence) police station

but the lines were engaged.

He was screaming on and off.

When the screaming stopped, we went back inside,”

a neighbour said.

Kaieteur News was told that

about 10 minutes after the screaming stopped,

a strange man was seen walking out of Persaud’s yard.

As mature adults, don't parents have to set examples for others to follow !!

The government is new and learning. In time, I believe they will learn to become more inclusive of the PPP.

Knocking down the PPP don't help the government do their job for National Unity.  If something illegal took place, it might get to the courts.

You might agree, people have a way of changing their mind and converting.

Don't knock them down because of their past, when  a better future could be achieved.
