Harmon, Mrs. Khan ‘booted’

ATTORNEY-GENERAL, Anil Nandlall, on Thursday, wrote former Director-General in the Ministry of the Presidency (MoTP), Joseph Harmon stating that his position is considered to have been terminated.

Despite being a political appointee of the former APNU+AFC administration, Harmon did not resign but had instead applied for 42 days of leave.
Harmon was earning $900,000 per month plus benefits as Director-General of the Ministry of the Presidency.

In addition to his salary, Harmon received a non-taxable duty allowance of $250,000 per month; a non-taxable entertainment allowance of $100,000 per month; a non-taxable maid allowance of $128,400 per month; and a non-taxable gardener allowance of $65,000 per month.

Moreover, his housing, telephone, Internet and electricity bills as well as security were paid for by the State. He also received a motorcar and driver provided by the State or duty free concession of up to 4000cc per three years period.

Harmon was also benefitting from a gratuity of 22.5 per cent of his basic salary every six months.
The former David Granger Administration had created the post of director- general specifically for Harmon after he was forced to resign as a Member of Parliament and ultimately as the Minister of State in 2019.

Harmon had resigned after the courts ruled that dual citizens cannot sit as Members of Parliament.

Harmon has since been informed by the government that his services are no longer required.

In a letter, Harmon was informed by Attorney General, Nandlall that “having regard to the nature of the job, which you were engaged to execute, and did in fact execute, it is no longer possible or practical for you to perform those tasks under the new government.”

Harmon was also reminded of the fact that he was relieved of his job as Director- General of the MotP sometime in April 2020, when he was appointed chief executive officer of the Coalition’s Covid-19 Task Force.

“Presumably, you accepted that decision, in as much as, you accepted the new assignment in lieu thereof, thereby rendering your removal as director-general, consensual and the termination of the attendant contract, mutual,” the letter stated.

Meanwhile, the services of Tamara Khan, the wife of former DPI Head Imran Khan, were also terminated. She was hired as a consultant within the Office of the Prime Minister with a salary of $650,000 per month.

Harmon seh he nah going no where. He can stay whereever he wishes but they will still stop the flow of money to him. He can then go to court to fight it. He said he doesn't respect Nandlall's authority.

What freeloaders...these people all had jobs, did them well and were compensated according to set scales.  Go back and check what people like Gail T. got paid.

This man is a lawyer but behaves like a hooligan instead. Anyone other than a PNC would acknowledge that you go when your party go.

Doesn't matter right now. He is a political appointee by the previous government and his job was arbitrarily created to accommodate him when he was disqualified from holding a published ministerial position. Let him go to court to get his money. The law hasn't been on the PNC side for quite some time now. Look how the 19 frivolous charges against Ali was summarily dismissed.

Those weren't frivolous charges.  They were dismissed because Ali is president.  He is still a crook and an academic fraud.

See my comment on this on the other thread. The PNC government had 5 plus long years but still couldn't convict him on any one of those 19 frivolous charges while he was not the president.

With changes in government; it is a world-wide process that political appointees leave with the government.

That process is no different for Guyana.

That is why Nandlall has correctly concluded that the Coalition suffers from some strange kind of insanity.

The brother had hawk eyes watching the elections before he start claiming that dead and out of the country people voted but none of his hawk eyes saw them. What use is it if he shuts his eyes or keeps them opened?

Do you think there will ever be a resolution between  supporters of the PPP and PNC on this forum, or in Guyana and how can it be achieved ?

I don't know but I hope there will be.

What would have gone a far way to making that begin to happen was for the PNC to acknowledge on March 4th 2020 that they lost the elections and step away. That would have make them look decent and reasonable making it much easier for them to go back to the people and ask for another chance. The way the PPP did.

Even as late as today Harmon is refusing to resign from a bogus post created just because he was disqualified from being Minister of the Ministry of the Presidency. That is going to make it much easier for people to reject the PNC.

He kept asking for time and delayed justice.
