Loved this song. Ishri Singh used to play it frequently on his Sunday afternoon program while the weddings were taking place.

I was blessed to see Kishore perform this one.

This is one heck of a song. I believe I saw Kishore Kumar when I went to the Jeetendra and Sri Devi show at the Madison Square Garden. I saw Manna Dey in Guyana. Saw Lata at the Promenade Gardens, the at the National Park and the next day at Rama Krishna Mandir. Read namaaz right next to Rafi at Kitty Masjid. I am very fortunate.

This is in Raag Shivaranjani. Kishore had no training in classical music. It's amazing how he hit the high notes with precision. The pathos of this raag brought out the  piteousness of the meaning even to those who do not understand the language. I recall how the audience was quiet and it was quite noticeable how some were shedding a tear and how he got a standing ovation for his rendition.

Here are lyrics and translation:

Mere naina sawan bhado, phir bhi mera man pyaasa
Phir bhi mera man pyaasa

My eyes are full of tears like raindrops, yet my mind is still thirsty (for love).

Ai dil diwane, khel ye kya jaane
Dard bhara ye, geet kahan se
In hoton pe aaye, dur kahin le jaaye

This insane heart, knows what about the game
From where this song which is full of sadness
come on my lips and takes me to a far away place.

Bhool gaya kya, bhool ke bhi hain
Mujhko yaad zarasa, phir bhi mera man pyaasa
Mere nainaâ€Ķâ€Ķ..

Although I have forgotten everything, but I still remember few things. My mind is still thirsty (for love).

Baat purani hain, ek kahani hain
Ab sochu tumhe, yaad nahin hain
Ab sochu nahin bhule, vo sawan ke jhoole

The story is old. I am trying to remember you. I still cannot forget the swing of “sawan” (The monsoon season).

Ritu aaye ritu, jaaye dekhe
Jhootha ek dilasa, phir bhi mera man pyaasa
Mere nainaâ€Ķâ€Ķâ€Ķ

The seasons come and go while leaving behind false comfort. My mind is still thirsty (for love).

Barason beet gaye, hamko mile bichade
Bijuri bankar, gagan pe chamke
Beete samay ki rekha, maine tumko dekha

Many years have passed since we left each other. In the sky, I can see the lightning as the streak of time and I saw you in that lightning.

Man sang aankh michouli khele
Asha aur nirasha, phir bhi mera man pyaasa
Mere nainaâ€Ķ

Hope and despair play the game of hide and seek with my mind. My mind is still thirsty (for love).

I shed a tear just listening to him singing as if he is singing this Talat song about himself.

itna na mujhse pyaar tu badha, ki main ik badal aawara

Don't increase your love that much for me, as I am a wandering cloud

kaise kisi ka sahara banoon, ki main khudh beghar bechara

How could i become anyone's support(or love) as I myself is homeless and unfortunate
