A Guyanese woman was on Friday night stabbed to death in Queens, New York, reportedly by her newly wedded husband, 33-year-old Dinhwar Budhidat, who later committed suicide.

Donne Dojoy known as Rehanna was found with multiple stab wounds at her husband’s home on Albert Rd. near Whitelaw St. in Ozone Park at around 20:00hrs.

According to the New York Daily News, cops later found the man hanging from a tree about 1 1/2 miles away in Spring Creek Park, south of the Belt Parkway.

The News Room understands that the couple got married in July this year.

The New York Daily News reported that a hysterical cousin alerted cops after Budhidat sent her a text saying he had killed his wife and was going to kill himself.

“He texted me he killed her. He didn’t tell me how. Why me? Why’d he have to text me that? He’s such a damn coward,” said Budhidat’s cousin, who asked not to be named.

“The text, It was along the lines of ‘I killed her. I left her in the apartment and I’m gonna go kill myself‚'” said Yogindra Toolaram, another of Budhidat’s cousins.

He said after his cousin who received the text called him, they both rushed over to the apartment.

The couple did not live together, said, relatives.

“Every relationship has problems,” said Toolaram. “I just didn’t think the problems would be big enough to result in such violence.”

“Every time you see a situation like this, the family members always say we never saw it coming, and I have the same answer,” he added. “He’s the coolest, calmest funniest guy,” Toolaram added.

The management and staff of Gemini’s Ultra Lounge on Liberty Avenue where Dojoy worked, extended condolences to her family via Facebook.

In a similar fashion, in January 2018, 26-year-old Stacy Singh, another Guyanese woman was found stabbed to death in an apartment in New York— around the same time her husband was discovered hanging from a tree.

Bai Base, many are foolish to appreciate the value of walking away. Many are foolish enough to insist on winning just for winning sake. Look at how two fools were arguing about a spot in the Popeye’s chicken sandwich line and one ended up stabbed to death. I am always surprised that people can’t find enough courage to just walk away and let time work it’s course. Anger is a terrible thing and as I always preach, the last chance we have to prevent a fire is before we scratch the match as we cannot control what gets burnt afterwards (c).

A Guyanese woman was on Friday evening fatally stabbed in Queens, New York and a body believed to be that of the suspect, her estranged husband, was later found hanging from a tree after apparently taking his own life.

Donne Dojoy, called ‘Rehanna,’ 25, who worked at a bar in Liberty Avenue, New York, is believed to have been killed by her husband, Dineshwar Budhidat, 33, who was described as jealous of her apparent infatuation with Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan.

The couple, who tied the knot in July, had been separated.

According to a New York Daily News report, a relative of Budhidat related to the police that he received a text from the suspect informing that he had killed Dojoy.

“He texted me he killed her. He didn’t tell me how. Why me? Why’d he have to text me that? He’s such a damn coward,” said Budhidat’s cousin, who asked not to be named. “Why’d he have to do that to the poor girl?”

“The text, it was along the lines of ‘I killed her. I left her in the apartment and I’m gonna go kill myself‚‘“ another relative said, according to the report.

“I got a phone call from my cousin who got the text,” he said. “She called me in a panic and we both rushed over here,” it further stated.

The police arrived at the scene around 8 pm and found Dojoy’s dead body with multiple stab wounds.

A helicopter search was carried out in search for the suspect.

A body, New York Daily News said, was later found hanging from a tree about a mile and a half away in Spring Creek Park, south of the Belt Parkway.

It is suspected to be that of Budhidat.

“It appears to be him,” a police source told New York Daily news.

“Every relationship has problems,” one relative told New York Daily News. “I just didn’t think the problems would be big enough to result in such violence,” the relative added while stating, “every time you see a situation like this, the family members always say we never saw it coming, and I have the same answer, he’s the coolest, calmest funniest guy.”

While the New York Daily News reported that the incident occurred at the suspect’s Albert Road, Ozone Park, New York home, the New York Post said it took place at Dojoy’s residence.

‘Innocent infatuation’

The Post spoke with friends of the woman, who said Dojoy’s innocent infatuation with Roshan sent her husband into fits of rage.

“She told me when she was at home watching a movie or listening to a song [with Roshan in it] he would ask her to take it off because he would get so jealous,”  Mala Ramdhani, 52, a karaoke singer at Gemini’s Ultra Lounge in Ozone Park, where Dojoy tended bar, was quoted as saying.

“I think he loved her but at the same time, he was obsessed with her, because of the type of job she did, and she had a good [sexy] body,” Andel Rodney, 29, a chef at the lounge and a friend of Dojoy for four years added. “She looked good, she always made her money, so he was probably jealous of her.”

It was noted that Dojoy would tell her friends that Budhidat was controlling and violent. She talked about him abusing her, controlling her, beating her, scaring her, threatening to kill her,” Rodney added. “She never took it seriously because she loved him.”
