Guyana needs a solid right wing party, one that will finally introduce harsh immigration laws, and who will introduce political and economic laws with "all guyanese" at heart.

For some time now, Guyana seem to have many illigal immigrants, something that our small country is not used to, at one point or the other, the government will have to do like many other countries and strengthen immigration laws, do like any western country and have "chosen immigration"

hoping such a party emerges soon, because with the oil discovery, and a growing economy, immigration problems will reverse, it has already begun.

Nuff illegal immigrants in Guyana while many Guyanese run to greener pastures.  What exactly they see that so many don't?  What a tangled web.

Why a right wing party? Sound immigration laws do not mean draconian laws. Guyana is a party to Commonwealth conventions so all commonwealth citizens can get access easily.

Oil should not transform our people beyond its ability to use the resource for the benefit of our citizens. We also have a responsibility to the Caribbean if indeed we become a wealthy state.

Although I agree with some of what you said, let's put things into perspective, a Guyanese can't visit many commonwealth countries without a visa, and as for caricom, it has always been all man for himself and God for us all, Guyana cannot continue to be the laughing stock of everyone as is, caricom free movement treaty is trash and mostly never respected, I'd say guyana should treat them The same way they treat Guyanese citizens until such time as meaningful negotiations brings about mutual respect...

We are a Carribbean people. Isolate ourselves from that identity and we become irrelevant however much money we may have. Free trade and free movement i happening subject to controls to preserve the identity of these small nations.

Guyanese would swamp them had they not set some limits to entry. We in Guyana have been a restless people. We liked it everywhere else except at home. With stable government and efficient management of our resources for the benefit of the people we may be lured to stay and others like me may be lured to return.

We need sound immigration policies but also fair ones.A Chinese should get equal footing to come to us as an Indian or a Kazakh. The problem has been differential treatment and preference to groups given they can buy visas.

We have 16 Nepalese in prison. Their Crime was illegal entry. They were leaving when caught. We have them in jail when we can let them go pending removal or regularization. They are in jail because they are Poor and a far way from home. Brazilians jump the border all the time and they are not put in jail indefinitely.

Agreed! The proper balance must be found, the only question is, which president will have the courage to attack the problem.

Granger has to address the problem. It is part of a quality of life issue. We cannot have illegal Colombians and Venezuelans  coming in to do hits on their drug enemies and fleeing across the border. It has happened frequently.

Guyana has the open border that it treats casually in Crabwood creek. The same in the Cuyuni. We need to patrol these areas and have intermediate control points.
