I just got back after spending 2 weeks in Guyana during the Easter Break.

Jerries (Waterloo St) not worth it. The waitress was very obnoxious and the food just average.

Qik Serve (Main & Quamina) was our savior. We stayed at Tower and almost every morning my son & I would go for curry chicken (or curry beef) with roti.

K & VC Restaurant (across from Demico House, west of Parliament Bldg). We stumbled across this restaurant on Easter Friday morning when all other restaurants in the down town area incl Stabroek Market were closed. The food is good and reasonable. They stay open late at night, closed on Sundays.

Stabroek Market cook shops. These are good but if you go late, say after 2:00pm the food is cold and not much available.

New Thriving Chinese food (Main & Middle St) is walking distance from our hotel and prices reasonable.

Hilton Chinese Restaurant (Garnett & Middleton St, Kitty) is a good place to eat. The place is always crowded but most people come to ‘take away’ and not ‘using’ like us so plenty of place to sit.

Lotus Restaurant,Timehri Airport parking lot. This is my favorite place to stop & eat upon arrival inGuyana.

Channi Indian Restaurant, Charity,Essequibo. They had labba curry, very nice.

Robbie’s wild meat, Parika. My favorite place for cooked labba, watrash, wild hog, deer.

NAACIE (next to Red House). Good place for drinks in the backyard, good cutters.

Boyo Bar, Skeldon. My favorite place for Parbo beer, good cutters.

Lambada Bar,Providence. Good calamari when they have them.

M&M Snacks, East Bank (across from Demerara Bridge access road). Good cane juice, good food.

Fogarty’s Restaurant. Variety of food, changes from hour to hour.

Shanta, CampSt. Didn’t go this year. Went last year – food not as good as before.

Call them (592-233-5481) before you go to make sure they have the calamari. Tell them not to fry it for too long.

I didn't want to  burden everyone with too much details on my earlier posting but since you asked ....

Exchange rate in Guyana: 1 US$ = 200 G$. From now on all prices will be in G$.

Lotus Restaurant, Timehri Airport: 2 egg curry with potatoes, 2 rotis, 2 Banks beer and 1 soda = $1,600.

Qik Serve: Curry chicken with roti = $517. Curry beef with roti = $431. Breakfast (egg, toast, plantain chips, sausage, coffee) = $603.

New Thriving Chinese food: Roast chicken & fried rice, roast chicken & low mein, 2 sodas = $1,820.

Hilton Chinese, Kitty: Chicken & fried rice, chicken & low mein, 1 soda, 1 water = $1,400.

Shirley & Sons, Stabroek Market cook shop: Chicken curry & roti, baigan choka & dhalpuri, 1 Banks beer, 1 soda = $1,200.

Channi Indian Restaurant, Charity: Labba curry & rice, chicken curry & rice, 2 Banks beer, 1 soda = $2,760. Note: Food & drinks in Essequibo is higher cost than in GT.

K & VC Restaurant, Carpark: 2 chicken curry & rice = $1,820

Jerries (Waterloo St): Bake chicken & fried rice, bake chicken & cook-up rice, 1 soda = $2,100.

Robbie's Wild Meat, Parika: Labba, chicken, plantain chips, 3 Banks beer, 2 sodas = $3,360. The meat was prepared as cutters - not curry.

Be on the alert with Caribbean Airlines especially on return flights to NA. Return flights for two of my relatives were changed with little or no warning. One was told to come back to Timehri the following day but were not told what time to show up at Timehri. The flight for the other was advanced 8 hrs and the only way he found out was his son happen to look at his e-mail in NY and saw the message from the airline.

In my case I just happen to call them a day before departure to ensure my son and I were seated together and was told that the 9:00AM flight has been replaced with a 10:30AM flight. This normally is not a problem but the arrival in TO was a 1/2 hr after my connecting flight had already left. After spending more than an hour on the phone talking to different supervisors I was put on an earlier flight at 6:00AM that connects thru Piarco and arrives in TO with time to spare allowing me to go thru immigration & customs and shuttle over to Terminal 1.

For those of you who are not familiar where the check-in is for Caribbean Airlines in TO, it's in Terminal 3, counter #417.

While in Guyana call this Caribbean Airlines toll free # to confirm your flight: 800-744-2225 for both flight information & reservation.

If you get bumped keep your cool and kindly ask for the supervisor. You will achieve more this way than blowing your top.
