GTUC says Russian envoys must

ensure country’s laws respected

royo

While the Russian Ambassador is urging the leader of the opposition David Granger to work towards passing the anti-money laundering bill, the umbrella trade union movement the GTUC is calling on the ambassador to ensure that this country’s laws are respected.

The union comments were in direct response to the fallout between the Russian owned company Bauxite Company of Guyana and the Guyana Bauxite & General Workers Union. Some 57 workers were reportedly dismissed for exercising their fundamental rights to strike, a senior manager of the company also allegedly threatened to bash the heads of workers with a spade.

The matter between the two parties is now engaging the attention of the court. The union said that more than a year since the government gave the court the assurance to reissue letters to proceed with addressing these grievances nothing has been done.

The union said it awaits a response from the ambassador on the current problems between the two parties.

Well I do think that the Russians are the Corrupt PPP/C friends so I would not expect that the Govt to come down hard on them.

What have the country laws got to do with the Russian envoy? Diplomats are exempt from a wide range of country laws under the Vienna Convention.

As far as the Russian owners of the bauxite plant is concerned, the Russian envoy has nothing to do with the bauxite plant. The fact that the plant owner and the Russian envoy happen to be of the same nationality is purely coincidental.
