A total of 32 teams would have all been in with an equal chance of staking a claim for the top prize of $500,000 dollars but following two nights of action, 11 of those teams have fallen by the way side.
Five of those 11 teams were sent packing on Tuesday night last at the National Gymnasium when the GT Beer Keep Your 5 Alive knock-out Futsal tournament continued.
Staying alive with wins on the night were Leopold Street, Future Stars, Dave and Celina’s All-Stars of Linden, Tiger Bay and Newtown Kitty. They have joined Sparta Boss, Broad Street, North Ruimveldt, Showstoppers, Rhythm Star and Kitty which were winners on day one, Saturday night last.
Contesting the feature match of the night, Leopold Street shot their way past Agricola 5-2 on account of a double each from Omallo Williams in the 2nd and 8th minutes; Okenee Fraser in the 6th and 14th and Shalomo Hunte in the 30th minute.
Hitting the back of the nets in a losing cause for Agricola was Kacy John in the 21st and 24th minutes.
The main supporting clash produced a total of 11 goals but it was Future Stars, led by a brace each from Keron Solomon and Akeemo Anthony which clawed their way back after being a goal down to whip Melanie, 7-4.
Melanie’s Amoniki Rogers, who also scored twice had handed his team the lead in the 6th minute and that was doubled four minutes later when Dexroy Sullivan nailed his shot past the goalkeeper.
But once that advantage was reduced and then cancelled out by Curtez Kellman’s 13th minute effort and Solomon’s opening goal five minutes later, Future Stars never looked back.
Solomon netted his second of the night one minute after his first, Kevin Cummings added his name to the score sheet in the 32nd minute, Anthony was on target in the 33rd and 34th minutes, while Jamal Cozier put the icing on the cake in the 36th minute.
Apart from Rogers in the 6th and 25th minutes, the other player scoring for Melanie was Rondell Bowman in the 32nd minute.
In a humdinger of a clash, the Bauxite Mining Town of Linden unleashed a star studded Dave and Celina’s All Star side that represented well as they squeezed past City side North East La Penitence in a cliffhanger, 3-2.
Carrying the Linden team on his back was Colwyn Drakes who fired in all three goals in the high octane battle. Drakes took the North East side by surprise with two quick goals in the 3rd and 5th minutes but the La Penitence boys quick sought to narrow the advantage when Shaquille Browne pulled one back in the 6th minute.
But the two goal cushion was restored by Drakes in the 10th minute as the exchanges continued relentlessly at either end of the pitch. La Penitence through Rawl Audain again reduced the deficit by one in the 14th minute but the Linden side was able to keep them at bay as they rallied to win 3-2.
The second match of the night was a walk in the park for Tiger Bay which trounced Bagotstown 5-1, even the goal for the losers was scored by the winners in the 23rd minute. Leading the Tigers were Orin Moore with a hat-trick (10, 12, 14), Alpha Fletchman touched in a brace in the 4th and 8th minutes.
In the opening match of the night, Newtown Kitty were in destructive form, banging their way past Shattaville Gunners, 9-1, they actually scored all the goals, Shattaville’s goal was an own goal in the 12th minute.
For Newtown, Allister Holder achieved a helmet-trick (3, 14, 16, 17), Kareem Augustus supported with a double (4, 6), Ray Smith opened the scoring in the 2nd minute, while Daniel Ross in the 8th and Andrew Holder in the 19th minute sealed the deal.
Staying alive will be the main aim of the teams that will collide tonight at the same venue from 20:00hrs.
Among the corporate entities on board are HJTV, 94.1 Boom FM, The Trophy Stall, Star Party Rentals, Confidential Cabs and GT Beer. The other competition dates are July 18th, 22nd and 25th and August 5th.
