Granger and Ramjattan ‘buse-out’ PPP/C’s Cabinet

APNU+AFC Leaders, David Granger and Khemraj Ramjattan

The David Granger/Khemraj Ramjattan-led APNU+AFC coalition yesterday went on a tirade against the governing People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) following the appointment of the new Cabinet at the Arthur Chung International Conference Centre.
The coalition made it clear that it sees the appointment as a “rubberstamp” Cabinet under the “authoritarian” control of Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo.
The coalition hurled insults at Jagdeo, and challenged the legitimacy of the Cabinet of President Irfaan Ali.

Read the full statement below:

APNU+AFC sees new fraudulent ‘Cabinet’ as Jagdeo rubberstamp
The APNU+AFC Coalition has taken note of the PPP’s naming of ‘ministers’ who will now form a fraudulent ‘Cabinet’.
The naming of the various ‘ministers’, resulting from fraudulent elections, is in itself uninspiring and appears to be a hodge podge of misfits and Jagdeo loyalists.
The nation can expect to be besieged by nothing but blind loyalty to the dictates of Jagdeo – from the ‘President’ to the most junior ‘minister’. The new ‘Cabinet’, illegitimate as it is will be nothing more than a rubberstamp of Jagdeo’s maniacal control ‘freakism’. This ‘Cabinet’ is a creature of Jagdeo.
There is the return of Robeson Benn who picked up the moniker of ‘Bruck Up Benn’ during his tenure a Minister of Public Works. He is now appointed to the Home Affairs portfolio. This is a sad day for citizen safety and security in Guyana when a callous, heartless authoritarian as Benn is taking charge of Guyana’s public security.
The ordinary citizens would be justified in being engulfed in fear and trepidation as they go to bed tonight. It was Benn who barged into the National Communications Network and demanded that a local song be banned from the airwaves. This belligerent dictator is now being put in command of the security forces.
A tainted and toxic individual as Kwame McCoy who the PPP, in shame, hid from public view for the last five years suddenly surfaces and is made a ‘minister’. August 5, 2020 will be recorded as a day of infamy, shame and disgrace in Guyana’s national, governmental and parliamentary history.
Vickram Bharrat lacks experience and competence and is a complete misfit at the Ministry of Natural Resources. Mr. Bharrat does not even have the benefit of wither serving a full term as an opposition parliamentarian (he came in as a late replacement for Charles Ramson Jr.) nor did he shadow the portfolio.
Ramson Jr. must consider Bharrat’s appointment to Natural Resources as a slap in his face as he (Ramson Jr.) is the only member of the ‘Cabinet’ who hold qualifications in the oil and gas sector, yet he has been banished from this portfolio.
The appointments of Anand Persaud, Joe Hamilton and Nigel Dharamlall reek of gross incompetence and clearly demonstrates the dearth of quality leadership in the PPP.
It would appear as though the ‘Prime Minister’, Mark Phillips, is without portfolio, yet he has a junior ‘minister’ whom, it appears he will be required to babysit as his full-time occupation.
Notably, no appointment was made for the critical portfolio of finance. No mention was even made.
We take note too that several high-ranking PPP executives and leaders have been sidelined or discarded. These include Clement Rohee, the former General Secretary; Indra Chandarpaul, head of the women’s arm of the PPP; Robert Persaud, a former Minister of Natural Resources; Shyam Nokta, Odinga Lumumba, Harry Gill, Jennifer Westford, Africo Selman and Dharamkumar Seeraj, among others.
It is further evident that the Jagan legacy in the PPP has been unceremoniously demolished and discarded.
Today, Guyanese have witnessed what the APNU+AFC has warned of – that the PPP has not, in any way changed. It remains a one-man authoritarian cult and this has now been formalised with this fraudulent de facto ‘Cabinet’.

Was it not Granger who as recent as early this year been saying that as President it was his constitutional right to choose his ministers including his PM? Isn't he looking like the consummate dictator in wanting to chose Ali's ministers now?

And given how incompetent the ministers of the Granger's administration were one would think they would remain guarded in criticizing anyone.

The newly appointed ministers are mostly young, diverse and energetic. Plus they are highly educated. Granger's political career was a monumental failure (Burke's verdict) and the only option he has now is to fade into the shadows.

The opposition thinks being in opposition is to be different and find fault in a newly elected president and his cabinet. I believe this happens in Guyana and some third world countries. This is not good for a country's prosperity this early on. I expect more of the same to happen to the new administration. I believe they should be given a chance to prove themselves to the nation. I expect better from politicians and statesmen/women to put the country first. What am I saying wrong?

Look at the make up of the Ministers , the wrongs will be seen ,there are misfits in some of the Ministries.

Every democracy needs a strong opposition to keep the government honest and accountable. Hopefully that is what the combined Opposition will do because power has a way of blinding peoples' visions.

But the criticisms lodged there by Granger and Ramjattan are comical given how incompetent the government of which they were were.

Funny that Granger seems to be lobbying for previous ministers to be restored carte blanc. Perhaps he still hasn't yet realized that part of his government's downfall was his geriatric posse of ministers.

You know, Granger is currently getting a good  cussing from his own people. It makes sense for him to deflect their attention away from himself. And what better targets than Jagdeo and Ali?

Today is Burnham's 35th death anniversary. Granger's fellow Burnhamites must be fuming with bile and indignation at his defeat.

This is only your opinion. Don't judge a book only by its cover. Give them a chance to prove themselves. If they screw up, they will pay for it. The voters wanted young and vibrant members in the cabinet. It's a very diverse cabinet and I am hoping to see future appointments having the same mix. The president will not hire people who "look like him or members of the party". Just my 2 lil jills.

Oh My god.  The opposition's job is to oppose and expose, but what are they exposing?  They are blaming Jagdeo for the best Cabinet ever assembled in Guyana. He didn't do it.  President Ali should be given credit for his performance.   These former lame duck minister had their chances and they blew them sky-high. They failed miserably in their duties.  As many people know already, the coalition belongs exactly where they are, in the opposition. Imagine they are screaming bloody murder and the ministers haven't started working yet. Oh, Pleeeeeease!

And don't forget that Granger stuffed SARA with misfits whose charges were knocked down one after another.

PNC and KFC are having fits now being audited. They created SARU to recover the monies the PPP stole. Now they want to know who is going to pay for this new unit. What night bus party.

@Ramakant-P: They want to dictate the cabinet make up of the ruling party. I think they failed to realize they lost the election and that elections have consequences. They need to understand that they got voted out and they are now backbenchers.

That's where they belong.  I think that they now realized that they cannot run a cake shop. They are being obstructionists.   I can't wait for the budget to hear what they would bytch about.

Which ministry you have a problem with? I can agree with you how may look, but I certainly believe experience is better than credentials without experience. BTW, who do you think should fill the Minister of finance post?

The way I see it.

Mark Philips got his corner to play.

Ali, juss watch and doan get involved.

Some ministers leff alone wid dem departments, out of Jagdeo's way.

Robeson Benn, that is a disaster for citizens. Crimes will increase as a distraction from the real goings on.

The real government is Jagdeo's clique, a paralell government to the elected one. The finance department will be EVERYTHING in Guyana.

I wait to see it unfolds.

How come they say the PM doesn't have any portfolio?

Prime Minister to oversee energy, telecoms, information, CDC and other portfolios

 Source

The country’s Prime Minister, Brigadier (rt’d) Mark Phillips, has been assigned multiple portfolios.

The Prime Minister will be responsible for the energy sector in areas such as the Guyana Power and Light Company and the Guyana Energy Agency.

He will also handle the telecommunications sector which under the previous Government amounted to an entire Ministry.

The Prime Minister will also have oversight of the Civil Defence Commission, which makes plans and conducts operations to deal with all types of disasters in Guyana.

Brigadier Phillips will have responsibility for the information sector.

In addition, the Prime Minister, who is a former Chief of Staff of the Guyana Defence Force, will sit on the Defence Board and will have other assignments determined by President Dr Irfaan Ali.

The responsibilities of all ministers of the Government will be clearly defined and published in the official gazette shortly.

The Ali government is moving at lightening speed to get thing going again after 19 months of no legitimate government. So far they have said and done all the right things. But their task is large as the Coalition bankrupted the country.

And the Coalition is hellbent in obstructing the path to developing this country.

In 2015, the PNC screamed that they got rid of the PPP with the help of the mushroom parties and the AFC. Today they are still screaming bloody murder. Check out Broome's erratic behavior. They are a bit smarter now, they pushed a couple of Indo_bhaii in front of the line to take the heat.  I hope they do not reverse back to their old ways and start to burn buildings and robbing the country blind to make it look like the PPP cannot handle the security forces.

Guyana will be receiving huge amounts of revenues from oil and international lending institutions will obviously make it easy for the country to borrow.  What major projects do you think the government should invest in?

Combatting Crime, long overdue. Modernize the Police force. Ramjattan was an utter failure.

Infrastructure. That jumpstarts any economy.

Reopen the sugar estates, the spinoff for the economy is good. The Private sector is recommending the reopening.

Jobs and retraining.

Hydro Electricity

Food Packaging and Processing of Agricultural Products

Affordable Hosing

Education

Health care

Investing in the Rice Industry, affordable machinery and fertilizers, proper drainage and irrigation

A social network for the Poor

etc etc

Dem ah cry 'cause dem believe dat dem will be in powa fuh at least 50 more years.

Ramjattan quickly forget that when the AFC was formed, they clearly stated that the AFC will not be aligned with any political group. It-AFC will always be independent and vote on issues.

Now, where is the AFC since 2015 ???

Perhaps, within the next 5 years, PNC will drop the AFC heavily on their rear-ends and leave them to wallow on their own.

For the 2015 elections the AFC could have easily garnered 10 seats and although either the PPP or PNC would be in a minority government, the AFC could have effectively been the true governing member of Parliament but they chose the corner offices over the people and now they essentially have none.
