Graham’s Hall, Mae’s, Sophia, Winfer Gardens triumph

Graham’s Hall, Mae’s, Sophia and Winfer Gardens registered victories when The National Sports Commission Ministry of Education and AL Sport and Tour Promotions 20th Annual Primary Schools Day/Night Overhand Windball Cricket Champions Trophy continued recently with action in the Georgetown zone at the National Gymnasium.
The day started with a visit from West Indies player Shimron Hetmyer who also give a pep talk to the players and interacted with the more than 200 students. When the action got underway, one of the tournament favourites, North Georgetown, failed to meet the semis losing to Graham’s Hall.
North Georgetown batted first and scored 139-1, Kellon King scored 82 (13x6s) and Yonnick Norton 50. Graham’s Hall replied with 143-2, Azanah Matthews got 60, Joshua Alves 37 and Shamar Rambolam 22.
Mae’s defeated St. Pius by 64 runs. Mae’s took first strike and posted 151-1. Tushar Small stroked 86 (12x6s), while Jonathan Van-Lange slammed 50. St. Pius were limited to 87-4 in reply. Damion Ifill 24, Akeem Pereira 19 and Deshan Duimmett 14 were the main batters; Antuan Pinto had 2-0.
Sophia beat St. Ambrose by 27 runs. Sophia made 156-2, batting first. Sherwin Evans led with 79 (7x6s & 9x4s), while Kenroy Davis scored 54.
St. Ambrose responded with 129-0, Shawn Gomes struck 74 and Kemson Spencer 30.
Winfer Gardens overcame Stella Maris by seven wickets. Batting first, Stella Maris made 79-6. Fedel Norville got 24 and Stanford Porter 22. Bowling for Winfer Gardens skipper Rashidi Taylor claimed four wickets. Winfer Gardens replied with 81-3 winning off the final delivery. Orlando Dickie made 49; Shaquan Branche took 2-11.
The Semi-finals, 3rd place and final will be played today commencing at 16:00hrs at the National Gymnasium.
Director of Sport Christopher Jones along with West Indies player Shimron Hetmyer and Guyana Amazon Warriors all-rounder Steven Jacobs will be present to witness the games and assist with the presentation of prizes.
