The Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) said today it has noted with concern the appearance of a fake Facebook page mirroring that of the agency’s official page that is being bandied around social media.

The GRA in statement said it would like to advise the general public to disregard the message currently circulating on social media purporting that the “Commissioner General Godfrey Statia has given due consideration for the addition of 14% VAT and 30% Consumption tax for plantain chips produced locally so as to boost internal revenue due to the ongoing shortage of revenue in the consolidated fund”.

The statement said that at no point has any such information come from the Commissioner-General or any other official of the GRA. As such Facebook users are being advised to desist from forwarding/sharing this content but instead, join the campaign against “fake news” of any form.

The GRA says it has an official Facebook account called Guyana Revenue Authority, for engaging with taxpayers. However, the homepage of this fake site while it carries a copy of the GRA’s logo, is captioned Guyana’s Revenue Authority – Taxidermist in Georgetown, Guyana.

The statement said that the GRA’s PR Team is currently working with Facebook’s Administrators to resolve the matter. It said that any news emanating from the GRA can be verified by calling the Communications and Tax Advisory Division on 227-6060 Ext 4205, 4208 or 4209 or by checking the GRA’s official website www.gra.gov.gy.

Wasn't it jackass Granger who told the people they should seek self employment by selling plantain chips? That was his prudent economic plan for Guyana.

Didn't our GNY member going under the handle of Stinger make his U$millions selling plantain chips in the US?

No, and no one in Guyana did either. Why don't you try out the advice of your mentor Granger, this could be your retirement plan.

Yes.

Me believe it was GFL and I was in touch with him a lot, but lost contact.  He did well selling plantain chips and other things.

Grace foods is doing extremely well in Northern Canada. Their coconut water is the only 100% pure juice, compared to those from Asia.

Some time ago, I wrote Grace CEO a story regarding their torpedo bottle pepper, that comes in two sizes.

The story goes :   At a gas station at Skeldon, Berbice I bought a bottle of Grace pepper  and as I do with bottles of rum, I place it in a wool sock and wrap it with electric tape, then place it in a  plastic bag [in case it breaks] before placing it in my suitcase to Canada.

I travelled to Albion , than on to New Amsterdam  with the pepper safely in my suitcase. It took four hours to cross the Berbice ferry and travelled to Georgetown and on to the Timehri airport. I gave mileage in the original story.

I then flew to Trinidad and on to Toronto and two other flights to my home in Northern Canada.

Being happy with  the bottle of pepper safely at home, the next day I went to the grocery  store to get some avocado and cottage cheese, that I like with the pepper

AND to my utter surprise the grocery store was selling the exact bottle of Grace pepper in Northern Canada.   AND  a lot cheaper than Skeldon.

After my mail was distributed with other  Grace executives, they sent me a large box with one each of all the items they make.

Grace products is one item here that takes me back to  the Caribbean and Guyana, that Denise stocks in her unique African store.  Grace foods is also a nice break from cold seal blubber.

Many successful Guyanese businesses today started as lil bottom house operations.

Baseman

Rabbi Washington aka con David Hill had a good plantain chip. If he had continued to bunk at Freedom House then he could have gotten lots of opportunities to expand his plantain chip empire because the Jagans liked him.
