The Linden Commission had been set up to probe the circumstances surrounding the unrest on JUly 18, 2012 in which three persons had been shot and killed. That unrest, including the burning down of several government buildings and the beating and robbing of persons transiting Linden to the interior, had stemmed from residents' rejection of a planned hike in electricity tariffs.
