FOREVER MOHD RAFI:

July 31st marks thirty seven years, since the passing of one of the Legendary Singer in India....Padmashree Mohamed Rafi, (July 31/80).

Rafi was born in a small village called Kotla Sultan Singh near Amritsar in December 1924.When his family moved to Lahore, he was still a baby.
It is said that a fakir used to come to their locality in Lahore every day and sing. The young Rafi was so fascinated by him that he used to follow him around. His elder brother Hamid was aware of Rafi's love for music and encouraged it. "In fact," says music director Naushad, "A lot of credit for Rafi's success must go to Hamid who knocked on several doors and tried everything to ensure that his brother got work.

The young Rafi was so engrossed with music and singing, he started taking music lessons from his the professional "Ustad Wahid Khan."

It is said that Rafi used to sing for friends and small occasions and as fate would have it,
one day himself and his borther attended a show featuring the "Great" K.L. Saigal. At the time, there was a power failure, and KL refused to sing, as the microphone was not operative, Rafi's brother Hamid, went to the organisers and practically begged that Rafi be given a chance to sing.
He was thirteen at the time, and the performance he gave was so impressive that the music director, invited him to Bombay.

The music director gave him a break, the movie was Gul Baloch,
the song became a hit, but then later, he met another Great "Naushad" and from then on there were no stopping for Rafi, Naushad said "When I heard Rafi, I liked his voice and promised him work in future. I was already doing a film called Shahjehan with Saigal. Rafi, who was a fan of Saigal, came to me with a request: that it was his greatest desire to sing with Saigal. I gave him one line in the song Roohi roohi mere sapno ki rani," recalls Naushad. "The first full song he sang for me was in Anmol Ghadi -- it went like Tera khilona toota balak..." he adds. "Then again he sang for me in Dillagi: Is duniya mein aye dilwalon dil ka lagana khel nahin and Tere koonche main armanon ki duniya leke aaya hoon."

Then like a Godsend came Baiju Bawara features some of the greatest songs by Mohammed Rafi and Lata Mageshkar. The melodies are simply haunting. "O Duniya ke rakhwale", "Insaan Bano", "Mohe Bhool gaye sawariya" and "Tu Ganga ki Mouj me" are timeless classics of Hindi cinema.
Big names in this film: Mohd Rafi, Lata Mangeshkar, Naushad, Meena Kumari.

On his personal life..Rafi married Bilquis his wife, and had four sons and three daughters, it is said that Rafi was a teetotaller, a religious and extremely humble person. He was a devout Muslim. Laxmikant-Pyarelal duo once observed - "He always gave without thinking of the returns". Rafi was also famous for his various humanitarian efforts.

The date of his passing away was perhaps
divinely pre-ordained, for it is said that one who dies in the
holy month goes to heaven. There was no person more deserving of that status than the pious and God-fearing Rafi, who never touched a drop of alcohol, who never told a lie, who never had a harsh word for anyone, and who worshipped his work. A man whose songs wiped away many a sorrowful tear from the eyes of those who were struggling under the burden of life and brought tears of ecstatic joy to many more.

Mrs Mohd Rafi on Mohd Rafi

Today, when I look back I am grateful for the children we have borne. They have been wonderful sons and daughters, and have been my strength for the last /// years, after his passing away. But yet there are moments when I wish I was 13 years old and Rafi saab was 19. There are times when I wish he would come to me like he would nearly every evening, sit beside me and ask me, What is troubling you? Tell me your troubles and they will all go away.

The next day, he sat for rehearsal from 9:30am and was in pain, but he refused to tell us anything till 12:30 in the afternoon. We scoulded him about it, but he told us,Γ‹Ε“Those who come to the Rafi residence, should never return empty-handed. These were his last words.

He was in a lot of pain and was sweating profusely. It was also in the month of Ramzan, so he was hungry. His hands and feet were yellow. The doctors asked us to shift him to a hospital, explaining that Rafi saab had suffered a very major heart attack. The end came soon after that.

"Tu kahin aas paas hai dost" (You are some where around, my friend) -

the last song sung by Mohammed Rafi sums up what millions of music lovers feel about the legendary playback singer even 26 years after his death.

As the shocking news of Rafi Sahab's demise was redeived. The sad news spread like wild fire throughout the country. Songs turned into a dirge. The angels wept in the sky and tears were shed in the form of raindrops over his namaaz-e-janaza (funeral prayer), His funeral procession started amid heavy
rain and thunder, people gathered on the top of buildings, trees and in windows to catch a last glimpse of their favourite singer. The procession reached the Juhu graveyard.

A LEGEND IN HIS LIFETIME, THE MASTER WAS NO MORE

MOHAMED RAFI (1924 - 1980)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9BbVwBbuh7I

Suhaani raat dhal chuki
The lovely night has decended
Na jaane tum kab aaoge
I don't know when you will come
Suhaani raat dhal chuki
The lovely night has decended
Na jaane tum kab aaoge
I don't know when you will come
Jahan ki rut badal chuki
The world's the climate have changed
Na jaane tum kab aaoge
I don't know when you will come

Nazaarein apni mastiyaan dikha dikhaake so gaye
The sights have shown their effects and are now gone
Sitaarein apni roshni luta lutaake so gaye
The stars have brilliantly shone and are now no more
Har ek shamma jal chuki
Every lamp that lit has burnt out
Na jaane tum kab aaoge
When are you going to come

Suhaani raat dhal chuki
The lovely night has decended
Na jaane tum kab aaoge
I don't know when you will come

Tadap rahe hai hum yahan
I am suffering here
Tadap rahe hai hum yahan tumhaare intezaar mein
I am suffering whilst waiting on you
Tumhaare intezaar mein
Waiting on you
Tumhaare intezaar mein
Waiting on you
Fiza ka rang aa chala hai
the colorful springtime is almost here
Mausam-e-bahaar mein
in the beautiful season
Mausam-e-bahaar mein
in the beautiful season
Hawa bhi rukh badal chuki
The winds have also changed directions
Na jaane tum kab aaoge
I don't know when you will come

Suhaani raat dhal chuki
The lovely night has decended
Na jaane tum kab aaoge
I don't know when you will come

Our next selection is perhaps one of the greatest song that was ever sang, if not the greatest. This song is unique in the sense that it established the range of Rafi Saab’s voice. The depth and height of his voice seen in this song, can be discribed as incredible. We can heard the 4th octave level in this song which is very rare amongs't singers. The other notable characteristics is that, as the pitch increases the width of the voice also increases which normally narrows in other singers. This is the true greatness of Rafi Saab. Whenever great songs are being discussed, this one will stand out as a shining star. This one surely catapulted Rafi Saab to great heights.

2) O DUNIYA KE RAKHWALE
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ReFDB8cexLg

Bhagwaan Bhagwaan Bhagwaan
O lord o lord o lord

O duniya ke rakhwaale
O maintainer of this universe
(Sun dard bhare mere naale)2
Listen to my painfilled plea

Aash niraash ke do rango se duniya toone sajaayi
You created this world with hope and despair
Naiya sang toofaan banaya milan ke saath judaayi
You also created a storm of meeting with separation
Ja dekh liya harjaayi
I saw the hardship of test
Ho loot gayi mere pyaar ki nagari ab to neer baha le
My village has been taken away, shed a tear
Ab to neer baha le
Shed a tear
Ho ab to neer baha le
Now shed a tear

O duniya ke rakhwaale
O maintainer of this universe
(Sun dard bhare mere naale)2
Listen to my painfilled plea

Aag bani saawan ki barkha phool bane angaare
Fire has become the rain, and the flowers sparks like burnt coal
Naagan ban gayi raat suhaani patthar ban gaye taare
This lovely night has become like a poisonous snake
Sab toot chuke hain sahaare
All support has been crumbled
Ho jeevan apna waapas le le jeevan dene waale
Now take this life back from me, O lifegiver
O duniya ke rakhwaale
O Maintainer of this universe

Chand ko dhoondhe paagal sooraj shaam ko dhoondhe savera
The crazy sun is seeking the moon, the night is searching for the morn,
Main bhi dhoondhoon uss preetam ko ho na sakaa jo mera
I'm also looking for that beloved one who has not become mine
Bhagwaan bhala ho tera
May God bless you,
Ho Kismat footi aas na tooti paanv mein pad gaye chhaale
My destiny is shattered and there is no hope
O duniya ke rakhwaale
O Maintainer of the universe

Mahal udaas aur galiyaa suni chup chup hain deewaare
The palace is dejected, streets are empty, the walls are silent
Dil kya ujada duniya ujadi, ruth gayi hain bahaare
As the heart broke, the world got shattered
Hum jeevan kaise gujaare
How can we live this life?
Ho mandir girtaa fir ban jata dil ko kaun sambhaale
Temple crashes down it can be rebuilt, but who can take care of this heart?

O duniya ke rakhwaale
O maintainer of this universe
(Sun dard bhare mere naale)2
Listen to my painfilled plea

o duniya ke rakhwaale, rakhwaale, rakhwaale, rakhwaale, rakhwaale
O maintainer of the world! Maintainer! Maintainer! Maintainer! Maintainer!

Chale aaj tum jahaan se, huyee zindagee paraayee
You leave this world today, my life is not mine anymore
Tumhen mil gayaa tikaanaa, humein maut bhee na aayee
You found your niche, I didnt even find death

(O dhoor ke musaafir, hum ko bhi saath le le re
O traveller to a far place, take me along
Hum ko bhi saath le le, hum rahe gaye akele)2
Take me along I am left all alone

Thoone wo de diyaa gum, bemauth mar gaye hum
You gave me such a grief, I died without dying
Dil ut gayaa jahaan se, (le chal humein yahaan se)2
My heart wants none of this world, take me away from here
Kis kaam ki ye duniyaa jo zindagee se khele re
I want nothing of this world, the world that plays with your life
Hum ko bhi saath le le, hum rahe gaye akele
Take me along I am left all alone

Sooni hai dil ki raahein, khaamosh hain nigaahein
Deserted are the paths of my heart, vacant is my sight
Naakaam hasraton kaa (utane ko hai janaazaa)2
Now is the funeral of my unfulfilled dreams
Chaaron tharaf lage hain, barabaadiyon ke mele re
Devastation all around me
Hum ko bhi saath le le, hum rahe gaye akele
Take me along I am left all alone

(O dhoor ke musaafir, hum ko bhi saath le le re
O traveller to a far place, take me along
Hum ko bhi saath le le, hum rahe gaye akele)2
Take me along I am left all alone

The trio of Mohd Rafi, Naushad, and Shakeel Badayuni, will never be forgotten, their works were always gems to be remembered. Some of the finest songs in Hindi Cinema that can be called classics were done by this trio.

So far we have showcased Rafi, Naushad, and Shakeel Badayuni, we will continue with this trio in a few more songs which has throughout the years still chugs at ones heart.

FOREVER MOHD RAFI:

One of the most famous Bhajans to be used in a Hindi movie is the evergreen bhajan Man Tadpat from the movie Baiju Bawra that was released in 1952. This Bhajan was based on Raga Malkauns in pure form. The music was set to tune by maestro Naushad Ali. All the songs in this film were based on Classical ragas. Man Tadpat was sung by the immortal Mohammed Rafi. Initially, the Urdu-speaking Mohammed Rafi had problems pronouncing some Sanskrit words of this Bhajan. So the music director, Naushad had to invite Sanskrit pundits from Varanasi to train Mohammed Rafi so that he could pronounce the Sanskrit lyrics of the Bhajan correctly. The pundits had to work very hard to improve Mohammed Rafi's diction. But after a great deal of effort, the pundits finally did succeed in improving Rafi's pronunciation to the desired extent. After several rehearsals, Naushad gave them his final approval to record this Bhajan. This Bhajan is popular even today. This Bhajan has been sung in most of the temples all over the world. We have heard this Bhajan thousands of times, and we still want to listen to it over and over again. This does not surprise me when I consider all the effort that went into the rehearsals of this great Bhajan before it was recorded. I do not think there is any another composition in Hindi films based on Raga Malkauns that is better than Man Tadpat.

One more interesting fact to be noted here is that all 3 artists Mohd. Rafi (Singer), Naushad (Composer) and Shakeel Badayuni (Lyricist) were all Muslims and yet the trio gave to the world the most unforgettable Bhajan of all times "Man Tadpat Hari Darshan Ko Aaj" which has been sung or played on the instrument in almost all Hindu Templs at least once all over the World.

"While taking takes after takes of the song Naushadji was not satisfied with the result and always felt some thing missing from the song, that was the feeling. Rafi Sahab then requested the director to get a picture of lord Krishna. Soon a framed picture was brought from the market. Rafi saheb placed the picture right in front of him in the recording room and asked Naushadji to start a fresh take. This take came out really great and all musicians found that Rafi sahab was in tears while giving this recording.Such was the commitment & feelings; no wonder this is one of the best Bhajans in Hindi Film History."
Dr. Narasinha Kamath.

7) MERE MEHBOOB TUJHE MERI MOHABBAT KI KASAM

http://www.mastimag.com/download.php?song_id=39590

(Mere mehboob tujhe meri mohabbt ki kasam)2
My beloved, I beseech you in the name of my love for you
Phir mujhe nargisi ankhon ka sahara dede
Once again, give me the support of these Iris like eyes
Mera khoya hua rangeen nazara dede
Bring back to me the beautiful outlook that was lost

Mere mehboob tujhe
My beloved ..

Ae mere khwab ki taabir meri jaan-e-ghazal
You who are the realization of my dreams, the soul of my poetry
Zindagi meri tujhe yaad kiye jaati hai
My existence (life) keeps remembering you
Raat din mujhko satata hai tasavur tera
Day and night I am tormented by the thought of you
Dil ki dhadkan tujhe awaaz diye jaati hai
My heartbeat keeps calling out to you
Aa mujhe apni sadaon ka sahara dede
Come strengthen me with your voice calling out to me
Mera khoya hua rangeen nazzara dede
Bring back to me the beautiful outlook that was lost

Mere mehboob tujhe
My beloved ..

Bhool sakti nahin ankhen woh suhana manzar
My eyes can not forget that lovely sight
Jab tera husn mere ishq se takraya tha
When your loveliness met with my adoration
Aur phir raha mein bikhre the hazaron naghme
Around us swelled thousands of melodies
Meri woh naghme teri awaaz ko de aaya tha
I had bestowed those melodies of mine to your voice
Saz-e-dil ko unhi geeton ka sahara dede
Play those songs on the lyre of my heart
Mera khoya hua rangeen nazara dede
Bring back to me the beautiful outlook that was lost

Mere mehboob tujhe
My beloved ..

Yaad hai mujhko meri umr ki pehli woh gadi
I remember the very first moment of my life
Teri ankhon se koi jaam piya tha maine
When I drank deep of thine eyes
Mere rug rug mein koi barqse lehrai thi
Lightening struck through every part of my being
Jab tere marmari haathon ko chua tha maine
When I hesitantly touched your fair hands
Aa mujhe phir unhi haathon ka sahara dede
Give me once again the support of those fair hands
Mera khoya hua rangeen nazara dede
Bring back to me the beautiful outlook that was lost

Mere mehboob tujhe
My beloved ..

Maine ik baar teri ek jhalak dekhi hai
Once I saw you for a brief moment
Meri hasrat hai ke mein phir tera deedar karoon
I long to see you once again in front of my eyes
Tere saaye ko samajh kar mein haseen Taj Mahal
Your shadow I will treat as the Beautiful Taj
Chandni raat me nazaronse tujhe pyar karoon
And in moonlit night I will love you with my eyes
Apni mehki hui zulfon ka sahara dede
Give me the gift of your fragrant tresses
Mera khoya hua rangeen nazara dede
Bring back to me the beautiful outlook that was lost

Mere mehboob tujhe
My beloved ..

Dhoond tha hoon tujhe har raah mei har mehfil mein
I seek you in every path, in every gathering
Thak gaye hai meri majboor tamanna ki kadam
Weary now is my helpless unfulfilled desire
Aaj ka din meri umeed ki hai aakhri din
Today is the last day of my hopes
Kal na jaane mei kahan aur kahan tu hai sanam
Tomorrow who knows where I will be and where you, my love
Do ghadi apni nigahon ka sahara dede
For a brief moment support me with your gaze
Mera khoya hua rangeen nazara dede
Bring back to me the beautiful outlook that was lost

Mere mehboob tujhe
My beloved ..

Saamne aa ke zara parda utha de rukh se
Appear in front of me and unveil yourself
Ik yahi mera ilaaj-e-ghum-e-tanhai hai
Only this way can I be rid of this loneliness
Teri furqat ne pareshaan kiya hai mujhko
Your separation torments me constantly
Ab to milja ke meri jaan pe ban aayi hai
Oh come to me for this is now my life and death issue
Dil ko bhooli hui yaadon ka sahara dede
Shore up my heart with the forgotten memories
Mera khoya hua rangeen nazara dede
Bring back to me the beautiful outlook that was lost

Mere mehboob tujhe
My beloved ..

Mere mehboob tujhe meri mohabbt ki kasam(repeat)
My beloved, I beseech you in the name of my love for you
Phir mujhe nargisi ankhon ka sahara dede
Once again, give me the support of these Iris like eyes
Mera khoya hua rangeen nazara dede
Bring back to me the beautiful outlook that was lost

Let's see who gives up all in persuit of love
Woh le Chale hein aan to ham jaan le chale
she brings her pride and I offer my life
Maut ka Saman le chale
cause of my death

Dil Mein Chupake Pyar ka Toofan le Chale
Hidden in my heart I carry a storm of love

Ha Ha Ha Aaa

Manzil pe hoga Faisla (Kismat ke Khel ka)2
At the destination will my fate be decided
Manzil pe hoga Fasila kismat ke khel ka
At the destination will my fate be decided
Kare jo dil ka khoon ho Meheman le Chale
The one to bleed my heart, I carry such a guest
Maut ka saman le chale
cause of my death

Dil Mein Chupake Pyar ka Toofan le Chale
Hidden in my heart I carry a storm of love

(Meri Kahani Bhoolne Wale)2
My story is a forgotten one
Tera Jahan Aabaad Rahe
may your life be happy
Meri Kahani...
my story...

Mere Geet Sune Duniyane Magar,
my song has been heard by this world but
Mera Dard Koyi Na Jaan Saka, Na Jaan Saka,
my pains cannot be understood by anyone, not by anyone
Ek Tera Sahaara Tha Dil Ko, Ek Tera Sahaara Tha,
My heart look to you for support, your support
Tu Bhi Na Mujhay Pehechan Saka,
even you could not recognise me
Bachpan Ke Woh Geet Puraane,
About Our childhood songs
Aaj Tujeh Na Yaad Rahe,
today you do not even remember
Meri Kahani..
my story

Mein Apna Fasana Kehna Saka,
I could not recount my story
Mere Dil Ki Tamanna Dil Mein Rahi, Lo Aaj Kinare Par,
my desires were left in my heart unexpressed
Lo Aaj Kinare Par Aake, Armaanon Ki Kashti Doob Gayi,
today after making landfall the ship of my dreams sank
Armaanon Ki Kashti Doob Gayi,
the ship of expectations have sunk
Kismat Ko Manzur Yahi Tha, Lab Pe Mere Fariyaad Rahe,
this was my destination, and I lament my lost love
Meri Kahani...
my story

(Meri Kahani Bhoolne Wale)2
My story is a forgotten one
Tera Jahan Aabaad Rahe
may your life be happy

FOREVER MOHD RAFI:

Naushad-Rafi-Shakeel Badayuni and tragedy king Dilip Kumar:

So far we have spotlighted ten selections by the magical trio: I think that we can aim for at least fifteen, before getting to the other five, we shall take a brief look at Rafi/Naushad/Badayuni and Dilip Kumar.
In late 1950s, Rafi’s voice, Naushad’s music and Shakeel Badayuni’s lyrics would become super-duper hit and the songs were being heard in all corners of the streets. The combination is famous for extraordinary songs picturised on Dilip Kumar, the greatest actor whose performances are renowned as the epitome of Indian Cinema. He earned the title of β€œtragedy king” for playing tragic roles in the films Babul (1950), Deedar (1951), Amar (1954), and Devdas(1955). The Naushad’s music and Rafi’s voice had much facilitate the thespian Dilip Kumar in getting this title.

Shakeel Badayuni and Naushad became one of the most sought after composer/lyricist duos in the industry. Among the stupendous scores they churned out together, are those of Baiju Bawra (1952), Mother India (1957), and Mughal-e-Azam (1960), that stand out. Other films they scored together include Dulari (1949), Shabab (1954), Ganga Jamuna (1961), and Mere Mehboob (1963). Although Badayuni worked most extensively with Naushad, he also collaborated with Ravi and Hemant Kumar as well. His lyrics for the song Husnwale Tera Jawab Nahin and Ravi's music both won Filmfare Awards for the hit film Gharana. His other notable film with Ravi is Chaudhvin Ka Chand (1960), while Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam (1962) is his biggest hit with Hemant Kumar. The title song from Chaudhvin Ka Chand, rendered by Mohammed Rafi, won Badayuni the Filmfare Award for Best Lyricist in 1961.

Shakeel penned numbers for around 89 films. In addition, he wrote many popular ghazals which are still sung by vocalists like Pankaj Udhas and others. Shakeel shared a close friendship with Naushad, Ravi and Ghulam Mohammed, with whom he enjoyed his life to the fullest. Unlike other shayaars, he wasn't an alcoholic.

With Rafi the duo become a trio, and they weave magic amongs't music lovers

Sit back and enjoy the other five selections involving the Golden Trio, Naushad/Rafi/Badayuni.

11) AAJ KE RAAT MERE DIL KE SALAAMI

http://www.mastimag.com/download.php?song_id=33122

Ye raat jaise dulhan, ban gayi chiraagon se
Tonight,as she becomes a bride under lights
Karunga ujaala main dil ke daagon se
My heartache will shine brighter still

Aaj ki raat mere, dil ki salaami le le, dil ki salaami le le
Tonight, my heart salutes you, my heart salutes you
Kal teri bazm se diwaana chala jaayega
Tomorrow this lover will leave your side
Shama rahe jaayegi, parwaana chala jaayega
This flame will remain, but the moth will be gone

Teri mehfil tere jalwe ho mubaarak tujhko
Your gathering, your lustre, suits you well
Teri ulfat se nahin aaj bhi inkaar mujhe
Today I will not deny you your pleasure
Tera maikhaana salaamat rahe eh jaan-e-wafa
Bless your beguiling ways, my lover
Muskuraakar tu zara dekh le ik baar mujhe
Favor me just once more with your smile
Phir tere pyaar ka mastaana chala jaayega
Then the one intoxicated with you will go

Kal teri bazm se diwaana chala jaayega
Tomorrow this lover will leave your side
Shama rahe jaayegi parwaana chala jaayega
This flame will remain, but the moth will be gone

Aaj ki raat mere, dil ki salaami le le, dil ki salaami le le
Tonight, my heart salutes you, my heart salutes you

Maine chaaha ki bata dun main haqeeqat apni
I wanted to tell you the truth about me,
Tune lekin na mera raaz-e-mohabbat samjha
But you did not see my secret love
Meri uljhan mere haalaat yaha tak pahonche
My troubles reached the point where
Teri aankhon ne mere pyaar ko nafrat samjha
you took my love for hate
Ab teri raah se begaana chala jaayega
Now this stranger will not be in your way
Kal teri bazm se diwaana chala jaayega
Tomorrow this lover will leave your side
Shama rahe jaayegi parwaana chala jaayega
This flame will remain, but the moth will be gone

Aaj ki raat mere, dil ki salaami le le, dil ki salaami le le
Tonight, my heart salutes you, my heart salutes you

Tu mera saath na de raah-e-mohabbat mein sanam
You did not walk the path of love with me
Chalte-chalte main kissi raah pe mud jaaunga
I will take a turn away from this path now
Kahkashaan chaand sitaare tere choomenge qadam
Rainbows, the moon and stars will kiss the ground you tread
Tere raste ki main ek dhool hun ud jaaunga
I am the dust in your path, I will blow away.
Saath mere mera afsaana chala jaayega
The tale of my love will go with me
Kal teri bazm se diwaana chala jaayega
Tomorrow this lover will leave your side
Shama rahe jaayegi parwaana chala jaayega
This flame will remain, but the moth will be gone

Aaj ki raat mere, dil ki salaami le le, dil ki salaami le le
Tonight, my heart salutes you, my heart salutes you

Two stars will meet on Earth this night
Muskuraata Hai Umeedon Kaa Chaman Aaj Ki Raat,
And expectations will be fulfilled this night

Lata:
Aa.. Rang laayi Hai Mere Dil Ki Lagan Aaj Ki Raat,
My heart's devotion is rewarded this night
Saari Duniya Nazar Aati Hai Dulhan, Aaj Ki Raat,
The whole world is decked like a bride this night

Both:
Do Sitaaron Kaa Zameen Par Hai Milan (Aaj Ki Raat,)2
Two stars shall meet on Earth this night

Rafi:
Husn Wale Teri Duniya Mein Koyi Aaya Hai,
O Beaautiful one someone has stepped into your world
Tere Deedar Ki Hasrat Bhi Koyi Laaya Hai,
craving and yearning for an encounter with you
Tod De Tod De Parde Ka Chalan Aaj Ki Raat,
break it break the habit of the veil this night
Muskuraata Hai Umeedon Kaa Chaman Aaj Ki Raat,
And the awaiting night is smiling

Both:
Aa.. Do Sitaaron Kaa Zameen Par Hai Milan (Aaj Ki Raat,)2
Two stars shall meet on Earth this night

Lata:
Jinse Milne Ki Tamanna Thi Wohi Aaten Hein,
The one that I yearned to meet, has arrived
Chand Taare Mere Raahon Mein Beeche Jaate Hein,
Moon and the stars decorate the way
Chumta Hai Meri Kadamon Ko Gagan Aaj Ki Raat,
The sky is touching my feet this night
Saari Duniya Nazar Aati Hai Dulhan, Aaj Ki Raat,
The whole world is decked like a bride this night

13) AAJ PURANI RAHON SE KOI MUJHE AWAAZ NA DE

http://www.mastimag.com/download.php?song_id=29964

Oo ho hoo oo ho hoo

(Aaj Purani Rahon Se Koi Mujhe Aawaz Na De)2
Today from the worn out paths, no one should call me,
(Dard Mein Dubey Geet Na De Gham Ka Sisakta Saz Na De)2
Or remind me of the songs full of sorrows and griefs

Oo ho hoo oo ho hoo

(Beete Dinon Ki Yaad Thi Jinmein Maein Woh Tarane Bhool Chuka
I have forgotten the old memories and the old melodies
Aaj Nai Manzil Hai Meri Kal Ke Thikaane Bhool Chuka
Today I have a new purpose I have forgotten the old destinations
Na Woh Dil Na Sanam Na Woh Deen Dharam
Neither the heart, the love, the faith or the religion,
Ab Door Hoon Sare Gunahon Se
Now I am far away from all my sins

(Aaj Purani Rahon Se Koi Mujhe Aawaz Na De)2
Today from the worn out paths, no one should call me,

Toot Chuke Sab Pyar Ke Bandhan Aaj Koi Zanjeer Nahin
All the bondages of love are broken there is no binding chains,
Sheesha-E-Dil Mein Armaano Ki Aaj Koi Tasveer Nahin
Of desires in this frail heart, today there is no portrait,
Ab Shaad Hoon Maein Aazad Hoon Maein
Now I am happy of being independent,
Kuch Kaam Nahin Hai Aahon Se
There is no use in sighs,

Aaj Purani Rahon Se Koi Mujhe Aawaz Na De
Today from the worn out paths, no one should call me,
Dard Mein Dubey Geet Na De Gham Ka Sisakta Saz Na De
Or remind me of the songs full of sorrows and griefs

Oo ho hoo oo ho hoo

Jeewan Badalaa, Duniyaan Badalee Man Ko Anokhaa Gyaan Milaa
It is a new life in a new world, my mind receives knowledge
Aaj Mujhe Apane Hee Dil Me, Ek Nayaa Insaan Milaa
Today I have found myself, I have peace of mind
Pahuchaa Hoo Wahaa, Naheen Door Jahaa
Finally, I have reached there
Bhagawaan Bhee Meree Nigaahon Se
I Can even see the almighty

(Aaj Purani Rahon Se Koi Mujhe Aawaz Na De)2
Today from the worn out paths, no one should call me,

14) NA MAIN BHAGWAAN HOON

http://www.mastimag.com/download.php?song_id=34333

Na main bhagwaan hoon na main shaitaan hoon
I am neither God nor the Devil
Duniyaa jo chaahe samajhe main to insaan hoon
The world may think whatever they want, I am human

Mujh mein bhalaaii bhii mujh mein buraaii bhii
In me, there are goodness and evil too
laakhon hain mail dil mein thodii safaaii bhii
Thousands of evils in my heart, but some good too
Thodaa saa nek hoon thodaa beiimaan hoon
I am a little bit pious, I am also a little bit deceitful
Duniyaa jo chaahe samajhe main to inasaan hoon
Let the world think whatever they want to, I am human

Na main bhagwaan hoon na main shaitaan hoon
I am neither God nor the Devil
Duniyaa jo chaahe samajhe main to inasaan hoon
The world may think whatever they want, I am human

Na koii raaj hai na sar par taaj hai
Neither is there a throne nor a crown on my head)
Phir bhii hamaare dam se dharatii kii laaj hai
Even then in my last breath is the modesty of earth
Tan kaa Gareeb hoon man kaa dhanavaan hoon
In body I am poor but in heart I am rich
Duniyaa jo chaahe samajhe main to inasaan hoon
Let the world think whatever they want to, I am human

Na main bhagwaan hoon na main shaitaan hoon
I am neither God nor the Devil
Duniyaa jo chaahe samajhe main to inasaan hoon
The world may think whatever they want, I am human

Jeevan kaa geet hai sur mein na taal mein
In the song of life, there is no tune nor rythm
Ulajhii hai saarii duniyaa rotii ke jaal mein
The whole world is preoccupied in the want of bread
kaisaa andher hai main bhi hairaan hoon
What injustice there is, i am surprised too
Duniyaa jo chaahe samajhe main to inasaan hoon
Let the world think whatever they want to, I am human

15) INSAAF KA MANDIR HAI YE BHAGWAAN KA

http://www.mastimag.com/download.php?song_id=29679

Insaf ka mandir hai ye bhagwan ka ghar hai2

This is a temple of justice, the abode of God
Kehna hai jo keh de tujhe kis baat ka dar hai

What you need to say, say it, what are you afraid of?

Insaaf ka mandir hai

This is a temple of Justice

Hai khot tere man mein jo bhagwan se hai door2

There is blemish in your heart you are away from God
Hai paanv tere phir bhi tu aane se hai majboor2

You have the feet, yet you are unable to come
Himmat hai to aaja ye bhalai ki dagar hai

Come you have the courage, this is the path of piety

Insaaf ka mandir hai

This is the temple of justice

Dukh de ke na dukhiyon se jo insaaf karega

After inflicting pain, if one is unjust to the sufferer
Bhagwan bhi usko na kabhi maaf karega

Even God will not forgive him ever
(Ye soch le)3 Har baat ki (daata ko khabar hai)2

Reflect this, the benefactors is aware of all things

Insaaf ka mandir hai

This is the temple of justice

Maayoos na ho haar ke taqadeer ki baazi
Pyaara hai vo gam jismein ho bhagwan bhi raazi
(Dukh dard mile)2 jismein vahi pyaar amar rahe2

Insaaf ka mandir hai

the temple of justice

We have completed fifteen songs by the Golden Trio Rafi/Naushad/Badayuni, gems that we will always remember, gems that will be talked about when great songs are being discussed.

In continuing this project I am thinking of showcasing about 100 songs by Mohd Rafi, for the simple reason that the songs that were done in other posts.....the links simply went dead, and is a pity that with those links we cannot listen to those gems of yesteryear.

FOREVER MOHD RAFI

Quote Rafi:
"Though I insist on being paid my price by commercial film-makers who can afford it, I sing for small budget films, including regional films, for a much lower price. Money isn't the only criterion for me to accept a film. Out of my earnings, I keep aside a sizable amount for charitable purposes but I prefer not to tom tom it because I do not want to seek publicity for those acts."

FM

FOREVER MOHD RAFI:

During his long career he sang a vast number of songs for all kinds of characters portrayed on the screen. Be it a hero, a drunkard, a beggar, a comedian etc., Rafi catered to all and did justice to the lyricist, the music director, and to the song itself.. Music directors had a choice of many singers but there was always the thought at the back of their minds, that in the event no other male singer could do justice to their song, there was always Mohd. Rafi to sing for them. Even other singers have admitted that to sing a duet with him was extremely taxing.

FM

FOREVER MOHD RAFI:

It seemed as though he could scale any heights of the pitch. The song from Mughal-e-Azam titled zindabad ai mohabbat is proof enough. His voice carried expressions and gave the listener an understanding of the scenes and actions without having actually seen the film. For example, in Barsaat Ki Raat the song zindagi bhar nahi has a poetic line, surkh aanchal ko dabakar jo nichora usne. And the way Rafi has emphasized the word nichora, you could almost imagine Madhubala wringing her aanchal. Or if you listen to the song from Baharein Phir Bhi Aayengi, phrased aap ke haseen rukh pe aaj naya noor hai, you can imagine the detailed facial expressions as expressed in the song.

FM

FOREVER MOHD RAFI:

THE FINAL YEARS:

Kishore Kumar overshadowed Rafi as the most sought-after singer in Bollywood in 1970s, starting with the film Aradhana (1969). The music for Aradhana was composed by S. D. Burman, and he had used Rafi as the male playback voice for the first two recorded duets, Baaghon Mein Bahaar Hai and Gunguna Rahen Hain Bhanwre. After these two recordings, S D Burman fell ill and his son and assistant, R D Burman, took over the recordings. R D Burman got Kishore Kumar to sing the solos Roop Tera Mastana and Mere Sapnon Ki Rani, which led to Kishore Kumar's popularity. Kishore Kumar's rise and R D Burman's patronage to him sidelined Rafi's career in early 1970s. Some also say that Rafi was advised against singing at the Hajj Pilgrimage, so he deliberately spent the next few months away from the recording studios by living in London.</h6>

From 1970-1976, Rafi's output was less, but he sang several hit songs during this period. Some of his hit songs in early 1970s were with music directors like L-P, Madan Mohan, R. D. Burman and S. D. Burman. Some of Rafi's popular songs from this period include Yeh Duniya Yeh Mehfil from Heer Ranjha (1970), Chura Liya Hain Tumne from Yaadon Ki Baarat, Yeh Jo Chilman Hain and Itna to Yaad Hain Mujhe from Mehboob Ki Mehndi, Tum Jo Mil Gaye Ho from Hanste Zakhm (1973), Gulabi Aankhen from The Train, Aaj Mausam bada Beimaan hai from Loafer (1973), and Jhilmil Sitaron ka from Jeevan Mrityu (1974).

Rafi made a comeback as a leading playback singer in mid-1970s. In 1974, he won the Film World magazine Best Singer Award for the song Teree Galiyon Mein Na Rakhenge Qadam Aaj Ke Baad (Hawas) composed by Usha Khanna. In 1977, he won both Filmfare Award and the National Award for the song Kya Hua Tera Wada from the movie Hum Kisi Se Kum Nahin, composed by R. D. Burman. Rafi did playback for Rishi Kapoor in films like Amar Akbar Anthony (1977), Sargam (1979) and Karz (1980). The qawwali Pardah Hai Pardah from Amar Akbar Anthony (1977) was a superhit. Rafi gave many other hit songs in late 1970s, notably for the films Laila Majnu (1976), Apnapan (1978), Qurbani, Dostana (1980) and The Burning Train (1980).

On Thursday, July 31, 1980 after composing the song Shaam phir kyun udaas hai dost for the movie Aas Paas with Laxmikant-Pyarelal (L-P), Rafi asked if he could leave for home. L-P were surprised because Rafi would be the last person to leave the recording session. While leaving, Rafi said once again "OK. I will leave." Rafi died at 10.50 p.m. on the same day due to a massive heart attack. His funeral procession was one of the largest Mumbai ever witnessed. The whole Indian nation mourned his death for a long time and there was public holidays for two days in his honor. Shammi Kapoor, who was shooting outside Mumbai, rushed back to attend his funeral in Mumbai. Later, the Padma Shri Mohammed Rafi Chowk in the Bandra suburb of Mumbai was named after him.

http://www.mastimag.com/download.php?song_id=23630

(Chale the saath mil kay chalenge saath mil kar)2
We have walked together and again we shall walk together
Tumhen rukanaa padegaa meri aawaaz sun kar
You will have to respond to my hailing
Chale the saath mil kay chalenge saath mil kar
We have walked together and again we shall walk together
Tumhen rukanaa padegaa meri aavaaz sun kar
You will have to respond to my hailing
Chale the saath mil kay
We have walked together

Hamaarii jaan lengii tumhaarii ye adaaein
Your elegance and beauty have taken my breathe away
Hamein jine na dengii tumhaarii ye nigaahein,
Your eyes will not let me live restfully
Samajh lo baat dil kii tumhen denge duaaein
Just listen to my heart and you will be blessed

Chale the saath mil kay chalenge saath mil kar
We have walked together and again we shall walk together
Tumhen rukanaa padegaa meri aavaaz sun kar
You will have to respond to my hailing
Chale the saath mil kay
We have walked together

Badaa pyaasaa hai ye dil ise madahosh kar do
The feelings of my heart is of thirst and intoxication
Bhadak uthe hain shole inhen Kaamosh kar do
The flames of passion are ignited please offer it satisfaction
Hamaaraa hosh le lo hamen behosh kar do
Take away my senses and rendered me unconscious

Chale the saath mil kay chalenge saath mil kar
We have walked together and again we shall walk together
Tumhen rukanaa padegaa meri aavaaz sun kar
You will have to respond to my hailing
Chale the saath mil kay
We have walked together

17) YEH DUNIYA YEH MEHFIL MERE KAAM KI NAHIN

http://www.mastimag.com/download.php?song_id=31749

Yeh Duniya, Yeh Mehfil, (Mere Kaam Ki Nahin,)2
This world and its congregation is not any use to me

Kisko Sunavun Haale Dil-e-beqaraar Kaa,
To whom shall I tell the status of my restless heart?,
Bujh Tha Huva Chiraag Hun Apne Mazaar Kaa,
I'm an extinguishing lamp of my tomb
Ay Kaash Bhul Javun, Magar Bhool Tha Nahin,
Wish that I can forget this, but I cannot
Kis Dhoom Se Utha Tha, Janaza Bahaar Kaa
The funeral of my blooming love took place with much pomp

Yeh Duniya, Yeh Mehfil, (Mere Kaam Ki Nahin,)2
This world and its congregation is not any use to me

Apna Patha Mile Na Khabar Yaar Ke Mile,
Neither I found any inkling about my love,
Dushman Ko Bhi Na Aisi Sazaa Pyar Ki Mile,
Even an enemy does not deserve this punishemnt for falling in love
Unko Khuda Mile, Hai Khuda Ki Jeenhe Talaash,
One who seeks God, gets to him
Mujh Ko Bas Ik Jhalak Mere Dil Daar Ki Mile
But I only wish to have a glimplse of my beloved

Yeh Duniya, Yeh Mehfil, (Mere Kaam Ki Nahin,)2
This world and its congregation is not any use to me

Sehera Mein Aake Bhi, Mujh Ko Thikaana Na Mila,
Coming into this wilderness I did not even get a shelter
Gham Ko Bulaane Kaa, Koyi Bahaana Na Mila,
I did not get any excuses to forget my love,
Dil Tarase Jismein Pyar Ko, Kya Samjhun Us Sansaar Ko,
What should I look for in this world when my heart desire of love,
Ik Jeeti Baazi Haar Ke, Mein Dundun Bichde Yaar Ko
Loosing one chance of life, I am now searching for my lost love

Yeh Duniya, Yeh Mehfil, (Mere Kaam Ki Nahin,)2
This world and its congregation is not any use to me

oooooo
Door Nigahon Se Aansun Bahata Hai Koyi,
These tears from my eyes are for someone far away
Kaise Na Jaavun Mein Mujh Ko Bulaata Hai Koyi,
How can I contain myself whils't someone is calling?
Yaa Toote Dil Ko Jod Do, Yaa Sare Bandhan Thod Do,
Either fix my broken heart or break all bondages
Ay Parabbat Rasta De Mujeh, Ay Kaanton Daman Chod Do,
Free me from this path of obstacles and thorns

Yeh Duniya, Yeh Mehfil, (Mere Kaam Ki Nahin,)2
This world and its congregation is not any use to me

18) APNI AANKHON MEIN BASAKAR

http://www.mastimag.com/download.php?song_id=23632

Apni aankhon mein basaa kar koyi iqraar karoon
Let me give you a place in my eyes and profess my love for you
Apni aankhon mein basaa kar koyi iqraar karoon
Let me give you a place in my eyes and profess my love for you
Jee mein aata hai ke jee bhar ke tujhe pyaar karoon

I wish I could make passionate love to you
Apni aankhon mein basaa kar koyi iqraar karoon
Let me give you a place in my eyes and profess my love for you

Maine kab tujhse zamaane ki khushi maangi hai
When did I ask you for the world's happiness?
(Ek halki si mere lab ne hansi maangi hai)2
I requested for a slight smile

Saamne tujhko bitha kar tera deedaar karoon
With you in front of me I keep looking at you
Jee mein aata hai ke jee bhar ke tujhe pyaar karoon
I have a strong desire to make passionate love to you
Apni aankhon mein basaa kar koyi iqraar karoon
Let me give you a place in my eyes and profess my love for you

Saath chhute na kabhi tera yeh kasam le loon
Never shall I separate from you, lets take this oath
Har khushi de ke tujhe tere sanam gham le loon
By giving you all the happiness my love, I will take your sorrows
Har khushi de ke tujhe tere sanam gham le loon
By giving you all the happiness my love, i will take your sorrows
Haaye main kiss tarah se pyaar ka izhaar karoon
Oh! How shall I make my confession of love?
Jee mein aata hai ke jee bhar ke tujhe pyaar karoon
I feel like making passionate love to you
Apni aankhon mein basaa kar koyi iqraar karoon
Let me give you a place in my eyes and profess my love for you

Do not ever fall for a stranger
Paradesiyon ko hai ik din jaanaa
The stranger will have to leave one day
(Paradesiyon se naa ankhiyaan milaanaa)2
Do not ever fall for a stranger

(Sach hii kahaa hai panchhii inako)2
Rightly they are called flighted ones
(Raat ko thehre to ud jain din ko)
They nest for the night and gone in daylight
Aaj yahaan kal baha hai tekhana

(Paradesiyon se naa ankhiyaan milaanaa)2
Do not ever fall for a stranger

(Baagon mein jab jab phuul khilenge)2
when ever the flowers bloom in spring
(Tab tab ye harajaaii milenge)2
then can be seen, these fickle ones
Guzaregaa kaise patajhar kaa zamaanaa
how will I pass the autumn days

Paradesiyon se naa ankhiyaan milaanaa
Do not fall in love with a stranger

Do not ever fall for a stranger

(Wadiyan mera daaman raaste meri baahen
Jao mere siva tum kaha jaoge)2
the valleys and paths are like my lap and outstretched arms,
go where you will, you will come back to me

Wadiyan mera daaman

(Jab churaoge tan tum kisi baat se)2
when you dart away from me in play
Shaakhe gul chhedegi mere hath se
Instead of my hands, a flower branch may tickle you
Apni hi zulf ko aur ulzaoge
you will play with your tresses and tangle them more

(Wadiyan mera daaman raaste meri baahen
Jao mere siva tum kaha jaoge)2
the valleys and paths are like my lap and outstretched arms,
go where you will, you will come back to me

Wadiyan mera daaman.....

(Jab se milne lagi tumse raahe meri)2
Chand suraj bani do nigahe meri
the moon and the sun became my two eyes
Tum kahi bhi raho tum nazar aaoge
stay anywhere you like, you will be visible to me

(Wadiyan mera daaman raaste meri baahen
Jao mere siva tum kaha jaoge)2
the valleys and paths are like my lap and outstretched arms,
go where you will, you will come back to me

http://www.mastimag.com/download.php?song_id=34728

(Choo lene do nazuk hoonton ko
Let it touch your soft lips
Kuch aur nahi hay jaam hay yeh)2
Its nothing but just a glass of wine
Qudrat nay jo hum ko bakhsha hay
Which nature has gifted for us
Wo sab se haseen inaam hay yeh
This is the prettiest of rewards

Choo lene do nazuk hoonton ko
Let it touch your soft lips

(Sharma kay na youhi kho dena rangeen jawani ki ghariyan)2
Dont let your moments of youth passes away in shyness
Betaab dharaktey seenoo ka armaan bhara pighaam hay yeh
The impatient heart beats are warning you

Choo lene do nazuk hoonton ko
Let it touch your soft lips
Kuch aur nahi hay jaam hay yeh
Its nothing but just a glass of wine

Choo lene do nazuk hoonton ko
Let it touch your soft lips

(Achon ko bura sabit karna duniya ki purani aadat hay)2
The world is in a habit to prove the good ones bad
Iss may ko mubarak cheez samajh mana kay bohat badnaam hay yeh
Consider this liquor to be good even though it is notorious

Choo lene do nazuk hoonton ko
Let it touch your soft lips
Kuch aur nahi hay jaam hay yeh
Its nothing but just a glass of wine
Qudrat nay jo hum ko bakhsha hay
Which the nature has gifted for us
Wo sab se haseen inaam hay yeh
This, the prettiest reward

These silky hair, these intoxicating eyes
Inhe dekhakar jee rahe hain sabhee
Everyone is mesmerised by them
Inhe dekhakar jee rahe hain sabhee)2
Everyone is mesmerised by them

(Jo ye aankhe sharam se zook jaayegee)2
If these eyes are ever downcasted with shame
Saaree baate yahee bas ruk jaayegee
Everything will just stop here
Choop rahanaa ye afasaanaa, koee in ko naa batalaanaa
Keep quiet o stories, no one say anything to her

Ke inhe dekhakar pee rahe hain sabhee
That everyone lives by just looking at them
Inhe dekhakar pee rahe hain sabhee
Everyone lives by just looking at them

Ye reshamee julfe, ye sharabatee aankhe
These silky hair, these intoxicating eyes
Inhe dekhakar jee rahe hain sabhee

Inhe dekhakar jee rahe hain sabhee
Everyone is mesmerised by them

(Zulfe magarur itanee ho jaayegee)2
(The hair will be so much full of pride)
Dil ko tadapaayegee, jee ko tarasaayegee
It will torture the heart, will bring fears to mind
Ye kar dengee diwaanaa, koee in ko naa batalaanaa
It will make us crazy, no one tells her anything

Ke inhe dekhakar jee rahe hain sabhee
That everyone survives by just looking at them
Inhe dekhakar jee rahe hain sabhee

Ye reshamee julfe, ye sharabatee aankhe
These silky hair, these intoxicating eyes

23) TU HI WOH HASEEN HAI

http://newmp3mad.com/128-25568...h%20Haseen%20Hai.mp3

(Hooo Hooo Hooo hoo hoo hoooo)2

(Tu hi woh haseen hai tu hi woh haseen hai
It is you that very beauty, ah! yes it is you that very beauty
Jis ki tasveer khayaalon mein muddat se bani hai)2
Whose pictures is etched in my memories and thought.

Tu hi woh haseen hai haai tu hi woh haseen hai

It is you that very beauty, ah! yes it is you that very beauty

Rukh-e-rowshan pe, zulfein bikhraaye huye
That lustrous face with tresses strewn over,
Jaise chanda pe, baadal ho chhaaya huye

As if the full moon is overcast by clouds
(Maine dekha tujhe toh mera dil mujhe yehi kehna lagaa)
Even when I see you my heart began telling me this
Dhoondhein nazrein Jisey, din-raat koi, aur nahin hai
Someone whom I had searched for is none other but you

Tu hi woh haseen hai haai tu hi woh haseen hai

It is you that very beauty, ah! yes it is you that very beauty

Meri aawaara tabiyat ko ek raah-e-mustaqil mil gayi,
My notorous nature has found a permanent path,
Ab na tarsoonga main rahath ko, mere khawabon ki manzil mil gayi,
Now I would not be longing for relief I have found my dream's destination
Sang-e-marmar ki moorat hai, taraashi hui,
An idol (a gem) carved out of marble stone,
Mere aankhon ko barson mein tasal lee hui
My eyes found satisfaction at long last,
(Meine dekha tujhe to mera dil mujhe yehi kehna laga)2
Even when I see you my heart began telling me this

Aise hi kisi moorat ki mere mandir mein kami hai
That such an idol (a gem)  in my temple is lacking

(Tu hi woh haseen hai tu hi woh haseen hai
It is you that very beauty, ah! yes it is you that very beauty
Jis ki tasveer khayaalon mein muddat se bani hai)2
Whose pictures in etched in my memories and thought.

Tu hi woh haseen hai haai tu hi woh haseen hai

It is you that very beauty, ah! yes it is you that very beauty

(Bahaaron phool barsaao, mera mehboob aaya hai
Blush of spring! Rain flowers down on her! My love is here!
Mera mehboob aaya hai)2
My love is here
Hawaaon raagini gaao, (mera mehboob aaya hai)2
Winds! Sing the airs (melodies)! My love is here

O laali phool ki mehndi laga in gore haathon mein
May the red of the rose color the henna on her fair hands
Utar aa ae ghata kaajal laga in pyaari aankhon mein
Come down, black clouds, and be the kohl in her lovely eyes
Sitaaron maang bhar jaao, (mera mehboob aaya hai)2
Stars! Adorn the part in her hair! My love is here!

Bahaaron phool barsaao, (mera mehboob aaya hai)2
Blush of spring! Rain flowers down on her! My love is here!

Nazaaron har taraf ab taan do ek noor ki chaadar
Admiring glances! lay a blanket of radiance all around her!
Bada sharmila dilbar hai, chala jaaye na sharmaakar
My sweetheart is very bashful, lest she leave from shyness
Zara tum dil ko behlaao, (mera mehboob aaya hai)2

Gladden my heart! My love is here!

(Bahaaron phool barsaao, (mera mehboob aaya hai)2
Blush of spring! Rain flowers down on her! My love is here

Sajaayi hai jawaan kaliyon ne ab yeh sej ulfat ki
Tender buds have decorated this bed of romance
Inhe maaloom tha aayegi ek din ruth mohabbat ki
They know the time for love will come one day
Fizaaon rang bikhraao, (mera mehboob aaya hai)2
Blossoms! Sprinkle the air with colors! My love is here
Hawaaon raagini gaao, (mera mehboob aaya hai)2
Winds! Sing the airs (melodies)! My love is here!
Bahaaron phool barsaao, (mera mehboob aaya hai)2
Blush of spring! Rain flowers down on her! My love is here!

25) EHSAAN TERA HOGA MUJH PAR

http://www.mastimag.com/download.php?song_id=28647

Ehasaan teraa hogaa mujh par, dil chaahataa hai vo kahane do
You will make me grateful, let me say what the heart wants
Mujhe tum se muhabbat ho gai hai
I have fallen in love with you
Mujhe palakon ki chhaano mein rahane do
Let me stay in the shadows of your eye lids (close to you)

Ehasaan teraa hogaa mujh par, dil chaahataa hai vo kahane do
You will make me grateful, let me say what the heart wants
Mujhe tum se muhabbat ho gai hai
I have fallen in love with you
Mujhe palakon ki chhaano mein rahane do
Let me stay in the shadows of your eye lids (close to you)

Tumne mujhko hasna sikhaaya ho
You have taught me to laugh
Tumne mujhko hasna sikhaaya
You have taught me to laugh
Rone kahoge ro lenge ab
If you tell me to cry, I will cry
Rone kahoge ro lenge ab
If you tell me to cry, I will cry
Aansoo ka hamaare gham na karo
Do not feel sad about my tears
Woh behte hai to behne do
Let it flow if it wants to
mujhe tumse mohabbat ho gayi hai
I have fallen in love with you
Mujhe palko ki chaav mein rehne do
(Let me stay in the shadows of your eyelids
Ehsaan tera hoga mujh par
You will make me grateful

Chaahe banaa do chaahe mitaa do aaaa
It is up to you to make or break me
Chaahe banaa do chaahe mitaa do
It is up to you to make or break me
Mar bhi gaye to denge duvaayen
Even if I die, I will give you by blessings
Mar bhi gaye to denge duvaayen
Even if I die, I will give you my blessings
Udd udd ke kahegi khaak sanam
Even the ashes will blow in the wind and say
Yeh dard-e-mohabbat sehne do
My lover let me suffer the sorrows of love)
Mujhe tumse mohabbat ho gayi hai
(I have fallen in love with you)
Mujhe palko ki chaav mein rehne do
(Let me stay in your eyes forever)

Ehasaan teraa hogaa mujh par, dil chaahataa hai vo kahane do
You will make me grateful, let me say what the heart wants
Mujhe tum se muhabbat ho gai hai

Nikalaa Na Karo Tum Saj Dhajakar
Don’t come out all dressed up

Protect your boat from the waves,

27) AAJ PURANI RAHON SE KOI MUJHE AWAAZ NA DE

http://www.mastimag.com/download.php?song_id=11530

Oo ho hoo oo hoo hoo

(Aaj Purani Rahon Se Koi Mujhe Aawaz Na De)2
Today from that worn out paths no one should call me

Dard Mein Dubey Geet Na De Gham Ka Sisakta Saz Na De

Or remind me of songs and verses  full of grief and sorrows

Oo ho hoo oo hoo hoo

(Beete Dinon Ki Yaad Thi Jinmein Maein Woh Tarane Bhool Chuka)2

I have forgotten the old memories and those old melodies

Aaj Nai Manzil Hai Meri Kal Ke Thikaane Bhool Chuka

Today I have a new purpose and have forgotten the old destinations
Na Woh Dil Na Sanam  Na Woh Deen Dharam

Neither that heart nor love or faith nor religion
Ab Door Hoon Sare Gunahon Se

Now I am far away from all my sins

(Aaj Purani Rahon Se Koi Mujhe Aawaz Na De)2
Today from that worn out paths no one should call me

Toot Chuke Sab Pyar Ke Bandhan  Aaj Koi Zanjeer Nahin

All that bondages of love and binding chains are no more
Sheesha-E-Dil Mein Armaano Ki Aaj Koi Tasveer Nahin

There is no desires in this frail heart and there is no portrait
Ab Shaad Hoon Maein Aazad Hoon Maein
Now I am happy and I am independent
Kuch Kaam Nahin Hai Aahon Se
There is now use in sighs

(Aaj Purani Rahon Se Koi Mujhe Aawaz Na De)2
Today from that worn out paths no one should call me

Dard Mein Dubey Geet Na De Gham Ka Sisakta Saz Na De

Or remind me of songs and verses  full of grief and sorrows

Oo ho hoo oo hoo hoo

Jeewan Badalaa, Duniyaan Badalee Man Ko Anokhaa Gyaan Milaa
It is a new life, a new world and my mind has received knowledge
Aaj Mujhe Apane Hee Dil Me, Ek Nayaa Insaan Milaa

Today I have found myself anew and I have peace of mind

Pahuchaa Hoo Wahaa, Naheen Door Jahaa

I have reached here finally
Bhagawaan Bhee Meree Nigaahon Se

I can even see the almighty

(Aaj Purani Rahon Se Koi Mujhe Aawaz Na De)2
Today from that worn out paths no one should call me

http://www.songs.pk/artists.php?songid=1020

(Tu is tarah se meree zindagee mein shaamil hain)2
You are attached in my life in such a harmonious way,
jahaan bhee jaaoo ye lagataa hain teree mahafil hain
Wherever I go, it seems that only your presence is everywhere,
Tu is tarah se meree zindagee mein shaamil hain
You are attached in my life in such a harmonious way,

(ye aasamaan ye baadal ye raasate ye hawaa)2
This wide sky, this dark cloud, these paths, this breeze,
har yek cheez hain apanee jagah thhikaane se
Everything is at their respective states, well coordinated
kaee dinon se shikaayat naheen zamaane se
There is no lamentations towards the world nowadays,
ye zindagee hain safar, too safar kee manjil hain
Life is a journey, and you're the destination of this journey,

jahaan bhee jaaoo ye lagataa hain teree mahafil hain
Wherever I go, it seems that only your presence is everywhere,
Tu is tarah se meree zindagee mein shaamil hain
You are attached in my life in such a harmonious way,

(tere baghair jahaan mein koyee kamee see thee)2
Without you, there was a certain hollow absence in this world,
bhatak rahee thee jawaanee andheree raahon mein
My youth was wandering in the benighted dark paths,
sukoon dil ko milaa, aake teree baahon mein
After coming to your embrace, I've procured restness for my heart,
main ik khoyee huyee mauj hoo, too saahil hain
I'm nothing but a lost tide, and you're the ocean,

jahaan bhee jaaoo ye lagataa hain teree mahafil hain
Wherever I go, it seems that only your presence is everywhere,
Tu is tarah se meree zindagee mein shaamil hain
You are attached in my life in such a harmonious way,

(tere jamaal se roshan hain ka ay naat meree)2
My whole world is shining with your beauty,
meree talaash teree dilakashee rahe baakee
May my search, your enticement , be there forever,
khudaa kare ke ye diwaanagee rahe baakee
may it be God's will, that my madness be there forever,
teree wafaa hee meree har khushee kaa hasil hain
Your fidelity is the source of my each and every happiness,

jahaan bhee jaaoo ye lagataa hain teree mahafil hain
Wherever I go, it seems that only your presence is everywhere,
Tu is tarah se meree zindagee mein shaamil hain
you are mingled in my life in such a harmonious way,

(Patthar ke sanam, tujhe hamane, muhabbat kaa Khudaa jaanaa)2
Oh heartless lover you are so mercilessI I worshipped you
bari bhuul hui, are hamane, ye kyaa samajhaa ye kyaa jaanaa
I have made a mistake in understanding you, what did I know.
patthar ke sanam,
O heartless lover,

cheharaa teraa dil mein liye, chalate chale angaaron pe
I kept walking on fire by keeping you in my heart
(tuu ho kahin,)2 sajade kiye hamane tere rukasaron pe
No matter where you were, I worshipped your beauty
ham saa na ho, koi diwaanaa,
There can be no one, as crazy as me,
patthar ke sanam,
O heartless lover,

(socha tha ke badh jaayengi tanhaaiyaan jab raaton mein)
I thought that there might be loneilness that dark night
(rasta hamein)2 dikhlaayengi shama-e-wafa in ankhon ki
the light of faith/fidelity in your eyes would show me the way
Thokar lagii, jab pahachaanaa,
I realised when I was hurt
patthar ke sanam,
O heartless lover,

(ai kaash ke hoti Kabar tuune kise Thukaraayaa hai)
I wish you would have realised your mistake
(shiishaa nahin,)2 saagar nahin, maandir-saa ik dil Dhaayaa hai
Not glass, nor ocean, my heart is like a temple
(saaraa aasamaan, hai viiraanaa,
The whole sky is barren,
patthar ke sanam,
O heartless lover,

FOREVER: MOHD RAFI

Did Mohammad Rafi get his due?

Sometime ago, a Bangladeshi musician claimed that Mohammad Rafi was not given his rightful due in India. In a week-long series rediff.com finds out if the great Rafisaab was indeed ignored by the Hindi film industry and the government.
Today: Rediff India Abroad Managing Editor Arthur J Pais argues that Rafi was the most worshipped singer of his time, unwittingly at the expense of singers like Talat Mahmood and Manna Dey's careers.

It is wonderful to hear 85-year-old Manna Dey, himself a singing legend, talk about how honoured India is to have had a singer like Mohammad Rafi. It is nice to hear the much younger Sonu Nigam [ Images ] talk about Rafi -- who died in July 1980 -- and his heritage. "Not only did I dream of becoming a singer because of Rafisaab," he told me the other day, "I also feel he was and will always be the giant of the musical scene in India."

But it is certainly not a nice thing to hear that Rafi did not get his due in his own country, and that he had to be content with a Padma Shri while his contemporary Lata Mangeshkar [ Images ] was honoured with the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian accolade.

Even as one factors in the absurdity inherent in giving out awards including the Oscars [ Images ] -- Alfred Hitchcock never got one and Martin Scorsese [ Images ] is still waiting for his -- one ought to note that Rafi had received his Padma Shri in 1965. Lata received a higher award, the Padma Bhushan, but after four years. She received the Bharat Ratna in 2001. Rafi had long passed into the ages by then.

Lata is among very few musicians including M S Subbulakshmi who have received the Bharat Ratna. Does that mean other eminent musicians like Ravi Shankar, Balamurali Krishna, Bhimsen Joshi or Bade Ali Ghulam Khan did not win sufficient recognition in India?

Rafi was a singing meteor of his time. Just a dozen songs from films like Baiju Bawra, Kohinoor and Guide assures him immortality.

And yet, with virtually every composer and singer worshipping him, especially between 1950 and 1970, he got an undue number of songs to sing and unwittingly hurt the careers of contemporaries like Manna Dey, Talat Mahmood, and to a lesser degree, Hemant Kumar.

He was overexposed to such an extent that some of his songs, especially in films like Aman (composed by Shankar-Jaikishen) and Palki (composer: Naushad Ali) sounded overstretched and over dramatic. And yet some of the most eminent composers including S D Burman were afraid to tell the producers and the stars, especially Rajendra Kumar, Shammi Kapoor and Dharmendra [ Images ], that there were other good singers.

One can count the number of songs Manna Dey sang for Burman; it is another story that those few songs -- Poocho Na Kaise in Teri Surat [ Images ] Meri Aanken turned out to be milestones.

Even when Kishore Kumar [ Images ] became a phenomenon with his songs in Aradhana (1970) and monopolised the musical scene for two decades, Rafi was not sidelined. He sang lovely numbers like Kya Hua Tera Wada and Chura Liya for R D Burman even as Kishore hogged the scene. Producers like Nasir Hussain and Manmohan Desai preferred Rafi to Kishore, and older actors like Dharmendra were in Rafi's camp.

I don't remember ever reading or hearing that Rafi, who was known for his impeccable courtesy and great humanity, felt the least discomfort when Kishore Kumar monopolised the Hindi film music scene.

As one listens to some of the great singers of that era including Manna Dey, Talat Mahmood and Mukesh, one wonders why they did not get more songs.

"There were many occasions I thought of using Manna Dey for my songs," composer Ravi told me two years ago, quickly adding that he was in awe of Rafi's voice. "But the actors often demanded Rafi." The few songs Manna Dey sang for Ravi in films like Waqt and Ek Phool Do Maali have become classics.

One producer to resist the We-must-have-Rafi syndrome was B R Chopra. He gave Mahendra Kapoor a good break in Gumrah and repeated him in many films including Dastaan, which featured Dilip Kumar [ Images ] who was beholden to Rafi.

Indian film music would perhaps have been richer had composers ranging from Madan Mohan to O P Nayyar to Salil Choudhury to S D Burman shown a stronger independent streak and nourished the singing career of other singers.

FOREVER: MOHD RAFI

How fair were they to Mohammed Rafi?

August 23, 2006

Last week, a Bangladeshi musician claimed that Mohammad Rafi was not given his rightful due in India. In a week-long series rediff.com finds out if the great Rafisaab was indeed ignored by the Hindi film industry and the government.
Today: Raju Bharatan, doyen of India's film journalists, salutes a legend.

It happened at the height of the Rajesh Khanna wave --- in the after-1970 Aradhana glow when Mohammed Rafi's confidence was at its lowest ebb. The Mohammed Rafi who had sung, for Naushad, a total of 149 songs (81 of them solo) through 35 years. That ace composer had heard about how sheer nonentities, in the recording room, had begun dictating to Mohammad Rafi.

During a small-time composer's Rafi recording, therefore, Naushad quietly slipped into the sound recordist's booth at Mehboob Studios in the Bandra suburb of Bombay. As he sat through the recording, Naushad felt aghast to find striplings, in the recording room, telling a stalwart like Rafi how to sing.

Whereupon Naushad discreetly moved out, leaving word that his pet performer should call on him, without fail, at his Ashiana Bandra home -- on the singer's way back to Rafi Villa after the recording.

As Rafi entered his mentor-composer's home, Naushad first took him severely to task. The burden of the Naushad song -- "Who are these people to tell Mohammed Rafi what to do? Isn't Rafi too trained a performer to submit to anyone but the song composer?"

Having heard out his benefactor, Rafi explained to Naushad in detail how, through three years, they had sapped his will to perform -- as his own man. Naushad's counter to that -- "Never ever forget that you are Mohammed Rafi, a performer whose seasoning, by now, far exceeds that of any male singer in the industry. Always remember, Rafi that the singer you identify as your rival, now, has no classical background at all. So how possibly could he be competition to you, Rafi? Go back, confident like before, to the recording room. Just sing like my Rafi always did."

Having said that, having identified Kishore Kumar as no classical competition to Rafi, Naushad instinctively realised that something more tangible had to be done to restore to Rafi his known niche in our song lexicon.

To this end, Naushad hurried with a recording due for My Friend (1974) and summoned Rafi, for a song-rehearsal, for that film. For a solo cast in the Naushadian Bhairavi mould. As Naushad thus put Rafi through his performing paces afresh, for the My Friend Bhairavi classic going as Naiyaa Meree Chaltee Jaaye Sahare Tere Badhte Jaaye, Rafi instinctively regained performing poise.

Almost concurrent with that happening came the Film World magazine awards and Rafi, here, was very much in the running for the Best Singer citation. Bombay's Shanmukhananda Hall was jampacked that serene evening as it came to be announced that Mohammed Rafi had been voted Best Singer for his empathetic rendition of Teree Galiyon Mein Na Rakhenge Qadam Aaj Ke Baad -- as written by Saawan Kumar and tuned by Usha Khanna to go on Anil Dhawan in Hawas. The moment -- to the backdrop of the Teree Galiyon Mein number playing -- Mohammed Rafi was pronounced the winner, this singer, in walking up to the stage, was a man metamorphosed.

All of Rafi's shaken singing confidence thus returned in one stroke --- it was his first award in years. The same Mohammed Rafi who had made it a habit of bagging the prestigious Filmfare Best Male Singer award every other year.

Rafi had won it for Ravi's Pahadi beauty on Guru Dutt, Chaudhvin Ka Chand Ho (Chaudhvin Ka Chand), in 1960. For Jaikishan's Teri Pyaari Pyaari Soorat Ko on Rajendra Kumar (wooing Byrappa Saroja Devi) in Sasural (1961). For Laxmikant-Pyarelal's 1964 DostiChahunga Main Tujhe Saanjh Savere. For Jaikishan's Bahaaron Phool Barsaao on Rajendra Kumar in Suraj (1966). For Shanker's Main Gaaon Tum So Jaao on Shammi Kapoor playing Brahmachari (1968).

Continues.....

FOREVER: MOHD RAFI

Rafi was aware of the fickleness of the industry and when he was eclipsed by the Kishore Kumar euphoria following the Aradhana days in the early 1970s, he did not show his hurt. That was the time when every musical director and star ran after Kishore Kumar. But Rafi was unperturbed and his dedication remained the same. Once while running a high temperature he recorded five songs in a day for Laxmikant-Pyarelal! Recalls Pyarelal, "He would bring thermos jugs filled with special tea spiced with almond, pista and elaichi, and pour out cups for us during recording. I never saw him in a bad mood."

The gentleman that he was, he conveniently `forgot' to remind producers for dues when a film did not do well. Rafi did not want his sons in the show business because he knew that singing talent cannot be inherited. He must have witnessed the struggles of Nitin Mukesh or Khalid Mahmood, sons of his colleagues Mukesh and Talat Mahmood. He gave his sons a sound education and set them up in business enterprises.

Thirty one years after his death, some of his best songs continue to haunt music rasikas.

FOREVER MOHD RAFI:

The daughter of Rafisaab remembers him:

Nasreen: A complete family man, dad was a man of few words. After returning from his recordings he always spent time with all his children. Though he never showed his affection openly, he never hid his love for his grandchild Tasneem, my daughter. He celebrated her birthday on July 12 with great pomp and that same month he left for his heavenly abode.
Despite his heavy schedule, he would take time off to take us on picnics to Lonavla, Mahabaleshwar or Matheran. Those were the days filled with fun and laughter. We would all look forward to these small holidays. We had a bungalow in Lonavla with a swimming pool. On the insistence of the kids, he too would jump into the pool, clad in dhoti kurta. With them he would become a child too.
Dad was never strict with us. Even when he was angry about something, he never yelled since he was a very quiet man. But one look was enough for our knees to buckle. We never disobeyed him. It is very strange that we don’t recall him admonishing us for being naughty. He liked khamoshi and thus never liked to see children crying or left hungry. Tasneem never cried as a baby and so he was very fond of her.

Yasmin: Every time he won an award he would be thrilled. He would throw a party for his friends from the industry and our mother would cook for them all by herself. He loved the biryani and rotis that she made.
Dad was known for his fondness for mithai and Moghlai food. He loved tea but had it only at home. He enjoyed feeding everyone.

FOREVER MOHD RAFI:

The daughter of Rafisaab remembers him:

Nasreen: For some strange reason, dad saw to it that none of us were associated with the film industry. We were kept away from the limelight and never allowed to meet anyone even if they came home. He was averse to the idea of any of his children getting into the film industry which is why he sent my brothers Mohd Khalid Rafi, Mohd Hamid Rafi and Mohd Saeed Rafi and me to London for education. I was only 12 years old then while my brothers were 16, 12 and 8 respectively. Yasmin and Shahid were too young and were made to stay back. He said it was in the interest of the children that he kept them away from the family. And every time he was on a world tour with his troupe he would always stop over at London to meet all of us. Most of the time our mother accompanied him as it was her chance too to meet us. There were some very rare times when we accompanied him to his rehearsals but we never got to see him at work.

FOREVER MOHD RAFI:

The daughter of Rafisaab remembers him:

Nasreen: I liked most of his sad numbers and Yasmin prefers the happy, peppy numbers. Even today she switches on the radio in the morning to listen to dad’s songs. But the impact of his greatness hit me when I accompanied him to a Shankar-Jaikishan Nite in 1969 in Mumbai. I was pleasantly surprised to see my father in a very different mood. He was so chulbula on stage, he whistled to the song Thoda ruk jaayegi to and Badan pe sitare lapete hue. It was a breathtaking experience for me to see the love and adulation that my father was showered upon. I felt very proud that day that I was his daughter.
Of his hobbies, he loved flying kites and we kids enjoyed holding the manjha for him. He was very good at the game and whenever he found time, he would take us to the terrace of our house. When there was a black kite flying in the sky, everyone in the vicinity knew that Rafi saab was flying kites on his terrace. Strangely he wanted only black kites.

The daughter of Rafisaab remembers him:

Yasmin: Since we were never exposed to the industry, nobody knows the family much today. Shahid was very young when dad left us and when he was around 17-18 years, his friends encouraged him to take up singing and he did one film Socha Na Tha wherein he sang as well as acted. But since dad never approved of it, our mother was not keen that Shahid take up a singing career and she discouraged him. Hence he did not follow a career in films.

FOREVER MOHD RAFI:

The daughter of Rafisaab remembers him:

Nasreen: My older siblings settled in London after their education and worked for some airlines company till they passed away some time back. Their families are now based in London. Our eldest sister Parveen lives with her doctor-husband in London. Shahid, Yasmin and I have settled in Mumbai.
I was 29 when dad passed away. That fateful day, some producers from Kolkata were in Mumbai to meet him to record for a Durga Pooja album in Bengali. Though he was not keeping too well, dad went ahead with the recording stating that the people had come all the way from Kolkata for his services. He decided to oblige them. No one was aware that he was in pain during the rehearsals. Later when he returned home, he was in a lot of pain and was sweating profusely. It was the month of Ramzan and he was fasting. He was sitting on the sofa when my mother noticed that his nails had turned blue and called the doctor who decided to shift him to hospital. He called us to his side and kissed us on our foreheads and said, β€œMere liye dua karna.” Though in severe pain, dad walked down the stairs to his car. Just as the car started, he looked up and waved to us. He had suffered a very major heart attack and the end came soon after that.
When his funeral procession was on its way, all the roads of Bandra were blocked. The entire film industry had come to pay their last respects to a great singer. Only his favourite Shammi Kapoor could not make it as he was out of town. While last respects were being paid at the Mahim dargah, Raj Kapoor had priests performing a pooja outside the dargah for my dad.

Music to human ears is heavenly and if it is purely devotional in the melodies voice of Mohammed Rafi it is truly divine. Nothing can be more deeply rooted in the Indian tradition than Bhajans or Devotional songs which are simple songs in soulful language expressing the many-splendored emotions of Love for GOD. In the above devotional songs, Rafi Saheb made a complete self-surrender to GOD through his singing and even though the songs mentioned being decadent, some of the songs can be heard again and again for indefinitely.

31) HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU

http://www.mastimag.com/download.php?song_id=27851

O nanhe se farishte, tujh se ye kaisaa naataa
O little angel, what relationship is this I have with you
kaise ye dil ke rishte, o nanhe se farishte
What heart's connection is this, o little angel
(Happy birthday to you)3

(tujhe dekhane ko tarase, kyon har ghari nigaahen)2
Why do my eyes thirst to see you every minute?
bechain si rahati hain, tere liye ye baahen
Why do my arms ache to hold you?
mujhe khud pataa nahin hai, mujhe tujhse pyaar kyuun hai,
I have no idea why I love you so much

o nanhe se farishte, tujh se ye kaisaa naataa
O little angel, what relationship is this I have with you
kaise ye dil ke rishte, o nanhe se farishte
What heart's connection is this, o little angel
(Happy birthday to you)3

(naazuk saa phuul hai tuu, kisi aur ke chaman kaa)2
You're like a delicate flower but of someone else's garden
khushabuu se teri mahake, kyon baag mere man kaa
Why is my heart's garden scented with your fragrance?
meri zindagi mein chhaaii, tujhase bahaar kyuun hai,
Why does my life bloom (like spring) with your presence?

o nanhe se farishte, tujh se ye kaisaa naataa
O little angel, what relationship is this I have with you
kaise ye dil ke rishte, o nanhe se farishte
What heart's connection is this, o little angel
(Happy birthday to you)3

tuu kuchh nahin hai meraa, phir bhi ye tarap kaisi
You're not mine so why do I feel this torment?
tujhe dekhate hi khuun mein, uthatii hai qu lahar si
My blood rises on a wave of ecstasy everytime I see you
har wakt mujhako rahataa, teraa intazaar kyuun hai,
Why do I wait anxiously to see you every moment?

o nanhe se farishte, tujh se ye kaisaa naataa
O little angel, what relationship is this I have with you
kaise ye dil ke rishte, o nanhe se farishte
What heart's connection is this, o little angel
(happy birthday to you)3

32) AANE SE USKE AYAY BAHAR

http://www.mastimag.com/download.php?song_id=24650

aaaaaa oooooooo

(Aane se usake aaye bahaar, jaane se usake jaaye bahaar)
(When she comes, comes springtime, when she leaves, springtime leaves
Barii mastaanii hai merii mahabuubaa
(She is so mischievous, is my beloved
Merii zindagaanii hai merii mahabuubaa)2
(She is my life, is my beloved

Gunagunaae aise jaise bajate hoon ghungharuu kahin pe
(She hums and it seems somewhere bells tinkle
Aake parvaton se, jaise girataa ho jharanaa zamin pe
(or a brook descends from moutains and creates a waterfall
Jharano kii mauj hai wo, maujon ki ravaanii hai merii mahabuubaa
(she is a wave in a stream, she is the grace of a wave, is my beloved

Merii zindagaanii hai merii mahabuubaa

Is ghataa ko main to usakii aankhon kaa kaajal kahuungaa
(This black rain cloud, I will call it the kajal in her eyes
Is havaa ko main to usakaa laharaataa aanchal kahuungaa
(This breeze, I will call it her fluttering scarf (dupatta)
Huuron kii malikaa hai pariyon kii raanii hai merii mahabuubaa
(She is the queen of hooris, she is the ruler of fairies, is my beloved

Biit jaate hain din, kat jaatii hai aankhon mein raaten
(The days pass, the nights slip away sleepless
Ham naa jaane kyaa kyaa karate rahate hain aapas mein baatein
(we know not what we tenderly keep talking about, she and I
Main thoraa diivaanaa, thorii sii diivaanii hai merii mahabuubaa
(I am a little obsessively mad, she is a little mad too, is my beloved

Ban sanvar ke nikale aae saavan kaa jab jab mahiinaa
(She adorns with care and goes forth whenever comes month of Rains
Har koii ye samajhe hogii vo koii chanchal hasiinaa
(Everyone believes her to be a mischievous beauty
Puuchho to kaun hai vo, rut ye suhaanii hai, merii mahabuubaa
(If you ask who she is, it's the pleasant season, is my beloved

33) TERE PYAARI PYAARI SURAT KO KISISI

http://newmp3mad.com/128-20128...ari%20Surat%20Ko.mp3

Teri pyaari pyaari surat ko kissi nazar na lage chashme-baddur

May all malicious glances vanised and may God preserve from evil eyes

Mukhde ko chhupa lo aanchal mein kahin meri nazar na lage chashme-baddur

Hide your face even to avoid my glance, may God preserve you from evil eyes

Yoon na akele phira karo sab ki nazar se daraa karo

Dont wander alone just be afraid of the evil eyes of others
Phool se jyada nazuk ho tum jaal sambhal kar chala karo

You are even more delicate than a flower, beware of traps

Zulfon ko gira lo gaalo par mausam ki nazar na lage chashme-baddur

Hairs spreaded  on your cheeks, and may God  save you from evil eyes

Teri pyaari pyaari surat ko kissi nazar na lage chashme-baddur

May all malicious glances vanised and may God preserve from evil eyes

Ek jhalak jo paata hai raahi wahin ruk jaata hai

Be aware of travellers getting a glimpse of you
Dekh ke tera roop salona chaand bhi sir ko chhupaata hai

Seeing your beautiful moonlike face,  impressions do lasts

Dekha na karo tum aaina kahin uss ki nazar na lage chashme-baddur

Dont look into mirrors, glance may get you, may God preserve you from evil eyes

Teri pyaari pyaari surat ko kissi nazar na lage chashme-baddur

May all malicious glances vanised and may God preserve from evil eyes

Mukhde ko chhupa lo aanchal mein kahin meri nazar na lage chashme-baddur

Hide your face even to avoid my glance, may God preserve you from evil eyes

34) SAU BAAR JANAM LENGE

http://newmp3mad.com/128-14827...%20Janam%20Lenge.mp3

Sau baar janam lenge sau baar fanaa honge

Will born a hundred times and will die a hundred times
Aye jaan-e-wafa phir bhi hum tum na juda honge

Oh my darling, we will never get separated from each other

Sau baar janam lenge sau baar fanaa honge

Will born a hundred times and will die a hundred times

Kismat hume milne se rokegi bhala kab tak

How long will destiny keep us away from each other
Inn pyaar ki raahon mein bhatkegi wafa kab tak

When will faith wander fanatically in the paths of love
Kadmon ke nishaan khud hi manzil ka pataa honge

The footprints will themselves be the address of the destination

Sau baar janam lenge sau baar fanaa honge

Will born a hundred times and will die a hundred times

Yeh kaisi udaasi hai jo husn pe chhayi hai

This despondency has been dispersed all over beauty
Hum door nahin tum se kehne ko judaai hai

I am not away from you at all as this separation is just for name
Armaan bhare do dil phir ek jagah honge

Our two hearts filled with desires will be at one place again

Sau baar janam lenge sau baar fanaa honge

Will born a hundred times and will die a hundred times

Aye jaan-e-wafa phir bhi hum tum na juda honge

Oh my darling, we will never get separated from each other

Sau baar janam lenge sau baar fanaa honge

Will born a hundred times and will die a hundred times
