10) CHALTE CHALTE MERE YE: CHALTE CHALTE 1976

http://www.mastimag.com/download.php?song_id=30444

(Chalte Chalte Mere Ye Geet Yaad Rakhna
Walking walking, remember these songs of mine
(Kabhi Alwida Na Kehna)2
Never say goodbye
Rote Hanste Bas Yoon Hi Tum Gungunate Rehna
While crying,laughing,you keep humming
(Kabhi Alwida Na Kehna)2
Never say goodbye

(Pyar Karte Karte Hum Tum Kahin Kho Jaayenge
Loving each other we will get lost somewhere
In Hi Baharon Ke Aanchal Mein Thak Ke So Jaayenge)
We will sleep off after getting tired right at this place
Sapnon Ko Phir Bhi Tum Yoon Hi Sajaate Rehna
Then also you will keep beautifying all dreams
(Kabhi AlwidaNa Kehna)2
Never say goodbye

Chalte Chalte Mere Ye Geet Yaad Rakhna
Walking walking, remember these songs of mine
(Kabhi Alwida Na Kehna)2

(Beech Raah Mein Dilbar Bichhad Jayen Kahin Hum Agar
Sweetheart, if at all we are parted at any of our paths
Aur Sooni Si Lage Tumhe Jeevan Ki Yeh Dagar)2
and you feel that life is lonely
Hum Laut Aayenge Tum Yoon Hi Bulate Rehna
I will return, you just keep calling
(Kabhi Alwida Na Kehna)2
Never say goodbye

R. D. Burman frequently used Kishore Kumar as the male singer, and recorded several hit songs with him in the 1970s. Some of the popular Kishore Kumar-R. D. Burman songs include O Maajhi Re from Khushboo, Yeh Shaam Mastaani and Yeh Jo Mohabbat Hai from Kati Patang (1971), Kuchh To Log Kahenge from Amar Prem (1972), Raat Kali Ek Khwab Mein Aayi from Buddha Mil Gaya (1971), Musafir Hoon Yaaron from Parichay (1972), Diye Jalte Hain from Namak Haraam (1973), Meri Bheegi Bheegi Si from Anamika (1973), Zindagi Ke Safar Mein from Aap Ki Kasam (1974), Agar Tum Na Hote and Humein Tum Se Pyaar Kitna from Kudrat, Mere Naina Saawan Bhadon from Mehbooba, and Chingari Koi Bhadke (Amar Prem), Jab Bhi Koi Kangana from Shaukeen (1986). The song Humen Tumse Pyar Kitna is notable as Kishore Kumar has sung a light romantic version, while the classical "Thumri"-style version is sung by the famous classical singer Begum Parveen Sultana, but the light romantic version has received greater popular acclaim. R. D. Burman also recorded several hit duets pairing Kishore Kumar with Asha Bhosle and with Lata Mangeshkar. Some of these duets include Panna Ki Tamanna from Heera Panna (1973), Neend Chura Ke Raaton Mein from the film Shareef Budmaash, Kya Yehi Pyaar Hai from Sanjay Dutt's debut film Rocky (1981), Sagar Kinare from Sagar in [1985], Aap Ki Aankhon Mein Kuchh from Ghar, Jaane Ja Dhoondta and Nahi Nahi from Jawani Diwani, Kharoshoo from Harjai (1982).

11) YEH SHAAM MASTANI: KATI PATANG 1970

http://www.mastimag.com/download.php?song_id=26084

Ye shaam mastaanee, madahosh kiye jaaye
This fascinating and romantic evening intoxicates me
Mujhe dor koee khinche, teree or liye jaaye
I am pulled by an invisible string towards you

Door rahatee hain too, mere paas aatee nahee
You live far from me and never come close to me.
Hothhon pe tere, kabhee pyaas aatee nahee
Thirst never appears on your lips.
Ayesaa lage jaisai ke too, has ke jahar koee piye jaaye
As if you drink poison yet smilingly.

Ye shaam mastaanee, madahosh kiye jaaye
This fascinating and romantic evening intoxicates me
Mujhe dor koee khinche, teree or liye jaaye
I am pulled by an invisible string towards you

Baat jab main karu, mujhe rok letee hain kyon
I wonder why you stop me when I speak.
Teree mithhee najar, mujhe tok detee hain kyo
Why your lowering eyes forbid me.
Teree hayaa, teree sharam teree kasam mere hothh siye jaaye
Your modesty, I swear by you, seals my lips.

Ye shaam mastaanee, madahosh kiye jaaye
This fascinating and romantic evening intoxicates me
Mujhe dor koee khinche, teree or liye jaaye
I am pulled by an invisible string towards you

Yek ruthhee huyee, takadeer jaise koee
It seems you have resigned to your sad fate.
Khaamosh ayese hain too, tasaweer jaise koee
You are silent like a picture.
Teree najar, ban ke jubaan lekin tere paigaam diye jaaye
But your eyes serve your tongue to convey your messages.

Ye shaam mastaanee, madahosh kiye jaaye
This fascinating and romantic evening intoxicates me
Mujhe dor koee khinche, teree or liye jaaye
I am pulled by an invisible string towards you

THE VIDEO: YEH SHAAM MASTANI

They say that Shakti Samanta wanted to give this role to Sharmila Tagore but Asha Parekh went straight to Shakti and said that she wanted this role badly and she would do it for next to nothing. The rest as they say is history as Asha Parekh went to win Filmfare's Best Actress for this role. I am for one glad she did that . Her face is forever imprinted as the "kati Patang" This is Asha Parekh's movie a memorable performance.

12) YEH JO MOHABAT HAI: KATI PATANG 1970

http://www.mastimag.com/download.php?song_id=26088

Yeh jo mohabbat hai, yeh unka hai kaam
This love, it is his job
Arre mehboob ka jo bas lete hue naam
He who only keeps taking the name of his lover
Mar jaaye, mit jaaye, ho jaaye badnaam
He'll die, he'll be destroyed, he'll become ill-reputed
(Rehne do chhodo bhi jaane do yaar
Let me be, leave me alone, let me go friend
Hum na karenge pyaar)2
I will not fall in love

(Toote agar saagar naya saagar koi le le
If a wineglass breaks, someone can take a new glass
Mere khuda dil se koi kisi ke na khele)2
My god, no one should play with anyone's heart
Dil toot jaaye to kya ho anjaam
If the heart breaks then what will be the result?

Yeh jo mohabbat hai, yeh unka hai kaam
This love, it is his job
Arre mehboob ka jo bas lete hue naam
He who only keeps taking the name of his lover
Mar jaaye, mit jaaye, ho jaaye badnaam
He'll die, he'll be destroyed, he'll become ill-reputed
(Rehne do chhodo bhi jaane do yaar
Let me be, leave me alone, let me go friend
Hum na karenge pyaar)2
I will not fall in love

(Aankhen kisi se na ulajh jaaye main darrta hoon
I am scared that my eyes might get tangled with someone else's
Yaaron haseenon ki gali se main guzarta hoon)2
Friends, I am passing through a path of girls
Bas door hi se karke salaam
Just giving them a greeting from afar

Yeh jo mohabbat hai, yeh unka hai kaam
This love, it is his job
Arre mehboob ka jo bas lete hue naam
He who only keeps taking the name of his lover
Mar jaaye, mit jaaye, ho jaaye badnaam
He'll die, he'll be destroyed, he'll become ill-reputed
(Rehne do chhodo bhi jaane do yaar
Let me be, leave me alone, let me go friend

FLAMBOYANT KISHORE KUMAR

Kishore Kumar‘s music (August 4, 1929 – October 13, 1987) and acting has left an indelible mark with his fans. One of them is his niece, Bharathi, Ashok Kumar‘s daughter. Here’s what she remembers of her famous uncle on the occasion of his 80th birth anniversary:

“After finishing his college, Kishore kaka came and stayed with us. He was 20 years younger to my father. So he was like an elder brother to me. My father was a great story teller. The film Mahal was written by him. He used to sit and tell us stories.

Kishore Kumar (1929-1987)

My uncle Anup and I used to sit and listen; enthralled by the way he used to tell the story. Kishore kaka used to sit at the piano. He used to play appropriate music to my father’s story. So we listened to happy music, sad music, and frightening music [as per the scene in the story]. They made us happy, moved us to tears and scared us to death. The combination of the narrative and the music is unforgettable. I don’t think I will ever experience it again.

They were a happy trio, these three brothers, so full of fun, frolic and laughter. Kishore kaka was so talented. He was a genius and my father wanted him to be an actor. Kaka [ Images ] refused and insisted that he would be a singer. So finally my father relented and gave him a song in Ziddi.

Kishore kaka was a great fan of Saigal and so he sang his first song in Saigal’s style, Jeenay ki tamanaaaâ€Ķ I can still remember the song. He was absolutely eccentric. Whether he was happy or sad, had work or not, had money or not, he was always full of laughter. Calling him crazy now seems an understatement.

The three brothers used to fool around a lot in the house. It was a riot when they were together. The movie Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi was a real life experience. That was the way they behaved with each other at all times.

Kishore Kumar used to be scared of his eldest brother. When he married Madhubala, it was his second marriage. My father greeted him with, ‘You have become a Muslim now. You have converted. How else can you marry a second time so soon after your first one?’

After that he used to call him Mohabbat Khan.

After the birth of his son Amit, we lost touch with him for a while. After that we met many times. But my memories of him are of those of the days when he stayed with us.

That piano he played when father told stories is now with my daughter Anuradha. Her son Siddharth plays it. He composes music on it. Kishore kaka has passed on his genes and that piano to his great grandson. The legacy will continue, I hope.”

As told to A Ganesh Nadar

FLAMBOYANT KISHORE KUMAR

Three Bollywood directors are in race to make a biopic on the life of legendary singer and actor Kishore Kumar. Shoojit Sircar who is making film on Kishore Kumar is on hold right now. However the two other filmmakers who are planning to make the biopic are Sudhir Mishra and Nagesh Kukunoor.

Mishra is excited about the film and feels like making a film on Kishore Kumar would be like dream come true. But he has not yet decided that who will play the legendary singer. However, Kukunoor has decided the lead actor. Actor Shreyas Talpade will play Kishore Kumar in Kukunoor’s film. Kukunoor is firm about Shreyas for the role because he feels that no other star with strong image will be good for the role. And interestingly Shreyas is a huge fan of Kishore Kumar.

13) RAAT KALI EK KWAAB: BUDDHA MIL GAYA 1971

http://www.mastimag.com/download.php?song_id=36889

(Raat kali ek khwaab mein aayi, aur gale ka haar hui)2
A jasmine bud came in a dream, and she became a garland
Subho ko jab hum neend se jaage, aankh unhi se chaar hui
In the morning when I awoke from sleep, my eyes met hers

Raat kali ek khwaab mein aayi, aur gale ka haar hui
A jasmine bud came in a dream, and she became a garland

(Chaahe kaho ise meri mohabbat, chaahe hasi mein uda do
Call this my love if you want laugh it off if you want
Yeh kya hua mujhe, mujhko khabar nahin, ho sake tum hi bata do)2
What has happened to me, I do not know, if you can, you tell me
Tumne kadam to rakha zameen par, seene mein kyoon jhankaar hui
You stepped on the earth, why was there a jingling in my heart?

Raat kali ek khwaab mein aayi, aur gale ka haar hui
A jasmine bud came in a dream, and she became a garland

(Yun to haseenon ke, maahajabinon ke hote hai roz nazaare
Actually I see beautiful and graceful ladies every day
Par unhe dekhke dekha hai jab tumhe, tum lage aur bhi pyaare)2
But after seeing them, you make them pale in beauty
Baahon mein le loon, aisi tamanna ek nahin kayi baar hui
Taking you in my arms is a wish that comes many a times

(Raat kali ek khwaab mein aayi, aur gale ka haar hui)2
A jasmine bud came in a dream, and she became a garland
Subho ko jab hum neend se jaage, aankh unhi se chaar hui
In the morning when I awoke from sleep, my eyes met hers

Raat kali ek khwaab mein aayi, aur gale ka haar hui
A jasmine bud came in a dream, and she became a garland

Kishore Kumar: Method in Madness

As in well known, Kishore Kumar was a man of many parts. He was a singer by choice, an actor by compulsion, a filmmaker by conviction... a writer, music composer, lyricist and above all, a supreme impresario - the greatest Hindi cinema has seen. There was another side to him. He was known to be a miser, a madman and a troublemaker who could never be trusted. And then, there are those who knew him well insist that he was as sober as a monk and that all the bizarre and outrageous personality traits he projected were in total opposition to his true nature.

So who was the real Kishore Kumar?

This book attempts to provide an answer to the question by dwelling into the different facets of his personality, while also probing into little known aspects of his personal life. Each of these facets is dealt with at length in separate chapters - arranged in a manner that tracks his journey through life, from a shy, little boy in Khandwa to the biggest badshah of 'boompity boom' in Bollywood. Providing a well-rounded picture of his personality, this book also has many rare and lively pictures to supplement the text.

About the Author:

Derek Bose is a senior journalist, with more than twenty years of experience with the press Trust of India and Indian Express. He has traveled extensively and is currently the South Asia correspondent of a leading British newspaper, Asian Leader.

Apart from his love for cinema, Bose is a keen Sunday painter and has directed several short films, including the award winning documentary, Dance of the Gods.

14) MUSAFIR HONA YAROON
http://www.mastimag.com/download.php?song_id=12078

Musaafir huun main yaaroon
I'm a traveler my friends
Naa ghar hai naa Thikaanaa
I don't have a home or a place to stay
Mujhe chalate jaanaa hai, bas, chalate jaanaa
I have to keep roaming, keep going

Musaafir huun main yaaroon
I'm a traveler my friends

Ek raah ruk gaii, to aur jud gai
When one path ended, another joined up with it
Main mudaa to saath-saath, raah mud gai
Whenever I turned, the path bent with me
Havaa ke paron pe, meraa aashiyaanaa
My home is on the wings of the wind

Musaafir huun main yaaroon
I'm a traveler my friends

Din ne haath thaam ke, idhar bithaa liyaa
The day held my hand and called me here
Raat ne ishaare se, udhar bulaa liyaa
The night beckoned and called me there
Subah se shaam se meraa, dostaanaa
Night and day are my friends

Musaafir huun main yaaroon
I'm a traveler my friends
Naa ghar hai naa Thikaanaa
I don't have a home or a place to stay
Mujhe chalate jaanaa hai, bas, chalate jaanaa
