THE desperation in the Opposition camp is obvious. It is further compounded by the sheer magnitude of the crowds attending PPP/C rallies and public meetings. Not being able to attract any sizeable crowd, the Opposition has resorted to other means as they struggle to stay relevant in the campaign. The PPP/C has not only outmatched them in terms of its ability to attract mammoth crowds, but has outbranded them in terms of signage and paraphernalia.

The country’s landscape has been inundated with PPP/C billboards, scrolls, flags and other related campaign materials. Placing these materials is an arduous task which has been mitigated by the selfless efforts of hundreds of Guyanese who have willingly volunteered. This show of support by the volunteers and who want to be identified with the PPP/C is overwhelmingly humbling. This is a clear indication that young Guyanese would not allow themselves to be intimidated by Opposition forces.

The monumental achievements of the PPP/C, its vision for the future and the astute leadership it has provided are factors that have caused thousands of young people to gravitate to the ruling party. The mammoth turn out at functions organised by IMPRESS, is indicative of how young Guyanese are willing to openly be associated with the PPP/C. Guyanese, especially the young folk, are now routinely enjoying the benefits of the country’s technological advancement which was spearheaded by President Bharrat Jagdeo.

Owning a cell phone to send an e-mail, text, picture or a document is no longer a luxury. Thousands now stay updated with the social networks through the use of cell phones. The commencement of the distribution of Laptop computers later this week through the One Laptop per Family (OLPF) project will ensure that over time, all Guyanese are computer literate. This visionary project is swiftly being adopted by other countries. Millions, if not billions across the globe, are dependent on this kind of technological development to sustain their lifestyles.

It is no different in Guyana. Now, Guyanese can use a palm device and stay in touch with others in different parts of the world. This is just one of the numerous developments that has been engineered by the PPP/C administration in addition to the immeasurable strides made in Housing, Education, Health, Agriculture, Human Services, Public Works and the Judiciary to name a few. These are just some of the reasons people would willingly and openly support the PPP/C; hence, the many successes in the magnitude of branding and advertising seen for the campaign.

It is for these very reasons that the Opposition are in the quandary in which they have found themselves. First, they have no track record of accomplishments. Second, they can no longer force Guyanese into believing that the country suffers from a lack of progress. People are no longer stuck in the dark past when the oppressive PNC occupied the seat of government. Citizens today are alert and aware of the positive transformation Guyana has seen under the PPP/C. Their lives have been vastly improved and as such they would not be couched into believing the desperate misinformation of the Opposition.

Therein lies the desperation of PNC/APNU and the AFC. Having nothing of substance to tell their dwindling turnouts, the only response is in negativity which has been taken to a different level. The PPP/C’s costly billboards and related campaign materials are constantly being damaged. It is reported that a gang travelling in a black Tacoma is allegedly damaging the PPP/C’s campaign materials. What is clear is that the materials have been damaged. The reports of the Tacoma suggest a coordinated effort to deliberately target the PPP/C.

Such actions are not uncharacteristic of the PNC party. Now that its name has been changed to APNU the same traits continue. The same desperation showed by the PNC is manifesting itself in APNU. So much for a name change. Given the numerous successes of the PPP/C and the massive outpouring of support seen at rallies and meetings, it would not be inaccurate to state that a sense of envy has crept into APNU’s camp.

Envy, which has its own ramifications, is synonymous with the colour green. It’s therefore not surprising that the said colour is the one of choice for APNU!

It will be an easy victory for the ruling party. The economy is doing well and it is certainly reflected in the improvement in the country's living standard. Could you imagine Guyanese drinking bottled water and ordering Chinese foods from numerous restaurants across the country???

green is the color of grass. Instead of touting how much the PPP paves the nation with their banners and paraphernalia, we ought to know where the money is coming from. But the never sought to make election spending etc transparent or set rules for using state assets for the same. Note GINA has a PPP banner! How crass and bold faced can you get!
