Election result to be declared on or before June 16 – GECOM decides

The long-awaited results of the March 2 General and Regional Elections will finally be declared on or before June 16.

This is according to an addendum to the recount order which was approved by a majority of the Guyana Elections Commission today.

Stabroek News understands that in keeping with the Clause 2 of the Order, the Commission completed its review of the 25-day timeline which ends tomorrow. Clause 2 catered for a review of the timeline, which should have been done within the first week of the recount.

Based on the current pace of the recount the secretariat has advised that all 2,339 ballot boxes will be processed and their results tabulated by June 13.

Chief Elections Officer Keith Lowenfield shall then submit the tabulated results in a report, together with a summary of the observation reports for each District, to the Commission.

According to the addendum the Commission then gives itself no more than three days to deliberate on the report and determine whether it should request the Chief Election Officer to use the data compiled as the basis for the submission of a report under section 96 of the Representation of the People Act Cap 1:03.

Group(s) crying foul must provide legitimate submission to GECOM.

Thus far, the published results are okay. However, the official results must be provided by GECOM.

Extremely unlikely that the process will be back to square one.

Three freking days to announce the winner.. what a shame

Volda has to doctored the results. .Rigging takes more than two days so the observers can forget the recount figures.

Great news. May the best party win. However I'm not gonna hold my breath because somewhere along the line,  somebody is gonna cry foul and its back to square one again.

Possible ,watch for matters taken to the courts.

Any idea what will the matters that will be taken to court or is this just your opinion?

With all the irregularities ,there may be court matters to annul the elections. Just my thoughts.

I am not sure if you read the article ,Sachin post.

This is a coup there will not be a change in the result. Start the process of negotiating a separate independent sovereign country for our people because that is the only way in with we can control the institutions of the state to protect the human rights of our people.
