Sep 20, 2017 Sports, https://www.kaieteurnewsonline...e-local-horseracing/

The Jumbo-Jet Thoroughbred Racing Committee is taking a step toward improving thoroughbred racing in Guyana, by enforcing the current rules, in addition to some new and generally improve the system.
The Committee has also put systems in place to help the Guyana Horse Racing Authority better its record keeping for horses, jockeys, trainers, grooms and owners.
The new systems and requirements will be enforced from the upcoming President’s Cup 2017 @Rising Sun Turf Club which is slated for October 1st. These will only be in forced for ALL of The Jumbo-Jet Thoroughbred Racing Promotions.
The major promotions that are well known throughout the Caribbean for the Jumbo-Jet Racing Committee are: The Guyana Cup FEVER, which is usually held on Easter weekend every year; The biggest of them all, The Guyana Cup which is held mid-August of every year; Then followed by the Guyana Cup RE-MATCH that’s usually in December of every year.
They usually have a few other meets in the year depending on weather conditions.
With the new requirements and systems put into place by the Racing Committee, there are benefits for everyone in the racing fraternity.
-Every jockey must be registered and uplift a valid Identification Card from the Jumbo-Jet Thoroughbred Racing Committee.
With this, jockeys will ensure their riding mount fee of $3,000 GYD for each ride, which will be paid by the horse owners to the Jumbo-Jet Racing Committee before jockeys weigh to ride. At the end of the event the jockeys will be paid their total amount. Also the 10% earnings that jockeys ride for on a day’s event will also be paid directly to them from the Jumbo-Jet Thoroughbred Racing Committee.
Reason for this system is that many jockeys are being bullied and robbed of their hard earned money the committee informed.
-All grooms must also register and uplift a valid Identification Card. This will help the promoter to identify grooms at the entrance gate, also give them a free pass on race day. Registered grooms will also be Paid 2% of the earning of their horses for 1st &2nd position. This will encourage grooms to work harder and work for success.
– All trainers must register and uplift a valid Identification Card from the Jumbo-Jet Thoroughbred Racing Committee. Same reason as the grooms and also trainers 10% earnings will also be paid directly from the Jumbo-Jet Racing Committee.
– All horse owners must be registered and uplift a valid Identification Card from the Jumbo-Jet Thoroughbred Racing Committee. This will also give them access to uplift there horse earnings from the above committee.
– All horses from classes H2 to I3 must be Microchip in order to race for the upcoming President’s Cup @ Rising Sun Turf Club on October 1st 2017.
– Two year old horses of 2018 and 2019 which were born 2016 and 2017 that plan on taking part in the 12th and 13th Annual Guyana Cup 2yrs Old event Must be Microchip before December 31st 2017. If not, horses will perform in their respective class races.
Special Notes:
– Owners, trainers and grooms who are not registered with the JJTRC will not benefit from all proposed benefits that were discussed at out last meeting (17/09/2017).
– All late entries will be charged 15 % entrance fee per animal (all entries should be made before the week of Racing).
It was noted that these new systems will only grow the sport that’s known as the “Sports of Kings” throughout the World. Once all are in place, the Jumbo-Jet Thoroughbred Racing Committee will have funds available for injuries to Jockeys, grooms and trainers on a race day.
It must also be noted that these benefits will only be in place for all of Jumbo-Jet Thoroughbred Racing Committee Promotions.
