A meeting in Warlock, East Ruimveldt, Georgetown by the People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) had to be cancelled on Wednesday evening (April 29) after a crowd of supporters of the APNU+AFC coalition threw rocks and bottles at the speakers, including Cabinet Secretary, Dr Roger Luncheon.

A video of the incident was presented by the ruling Party, showing supporters squaring off with police officers and burning PPP flags at the meeting. Also observed in the video were a number of minors who participated in disrupting the meeting.

Condemning the act is former President, Bharrat Jagdeo, who told a news conference on Thursday, April 30 that this behaviour occurred mere hours after all political Parties would have signed a Code of Conduct by the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM).

“Just last night, hours after the Code of Conduct was signed by all of the Parties condemning violence, committing themselves not to use violence, they had a bunch of thugs stoning our meeting in Warlock

“This is hours after the singing of the Code of Conduct and you had senior members of the APNU coalition there,” Jagdeo said.

When asked, he pointed out Aubrey Norton as one of those APNU members.

“I would like the country to see how organized the thuggery is. Why do you have to come to our meetings and stone people who speak at our meetings? It’s only an act of desperation that would cause you to do this,” the former President said.

He urged GECOM and the international observers to take note of the incident.

“We have to condemn this in the strongest term and we hope that GECOM is paying attention it and the international observers are too.”

Meanwhile, Jagdeo also rejected reports that “thousands of Venezuelans”, Brazilians and Chinese are registered to vote for the PPP.

I believe the stoning from the opposition supporters could only undermined APNU+AFC further. I also believe parents shouldn't allowed their kids to be in harm way regardless of politics. These acts also undermine Guyana's democracy during a time when a code of conduct has been signed and foreign observers are within our midst. I hope peace and calm can prevail in the next two weeks.

I believe the culprit is a paid PPP/C agent provocateur. Lunchman already got one foot in the grave.

I will advise you like I did to others. Wait for 10 day to celebrate your freedom from the PPP.

Persons being paid by PPP/C to pose as APNU+AFC supporters and intimidate Indo-Guyanese - PPP/C being rejected by majority of Guyanese

It has come to the attention of the APNU+AFC Coalition that there are persons who have been paid by the PPP/C to pose as APNU+AFC supporters and to intimidate Indo-Guyanese.

APNU+AFC forthrightly condemns this vile and utterly reprehensible tactic by the desperate PPP/C to engender ethnic mistrust amongst our people

Dr. Luncheon is a sage like Eusi Kwayana. It's evil to laugh at an older man getting hurt for practicing free speech. This man is has fought dictatorship all his life. Where is your humanity people? This kind of behavior should be condemned out right. Shame on those who perpetrated such acts and those who endorse such acts. The opposition is focusing on the young and criminalizing our elders. I am afraid of the kind of society that the opposition is proposing. Is this the hange they are advocating.

When asked why Afro Guyanese are under represented as heads of state owned corporations and commissions, and why at that point none were appointed as heads of overseas missions (indeed the UN Charge was languishing in that position for years), he claimed he didnt know, and opined that maybe Afro Guyanese arent qualified.

Now compare that to the work which Eusi has done all his adult life to help poor black people (and others) in Guyana.

You ought to be ashamed of yourself for thinking that Luncheon is even a fraction of worth that Eusi represents.

When Corbin went to campaignh in Rosehall in 2006, he was attacked. I await your excuse for why PPP supporters are allowed to be violent.

This was unacceptable.  NO STONING.  Only Bgurding for Kwame.
