Thousands of gospel fans were on Friday evening thrilled as international gospel recording artiste and Grammy winner, Pastor Donnie Mc Clurkin, delivered on his promise to give an anointed and praise filled performance.

Despite some minor hiccups before the show got underway patrons were satisfied with the overall show. Among some of the hiccups which did not go down well with some patrons was the fact that there was limited seating in the VIP area. There was also no shelter from the rain. People were forced to use their chairs for shelter. Some were equipped with their umbrellas.

There was a situation that was quickly remedied but still angered patrons who were prevented from entering the VIP area despite having in their possession the required tickets stubs. At one point patrons were told that there was some mix up with the colour of the tickets used for the VIP area.

However, before long all issues were resolved and those with tickets for the area were allowed in as they all got prepared for the highly anticipated event.

Before the actual show got underway patrons were treated to a spell of recorded gospel music belted out from the speakers which surrounded the Guyana National Stadium. Not long after local comedian ‘Chow Pow’ took to the stage and declared the night’s event open as he introduced the chairperson for the night’s proceeding, Pastor Selwyn Sills.

Before the main act for the night took to the stage, a lineup of local budding artistes sought to entertain the large crowd and did not fail. The local acts included, Mariam Williams, Solid Youth, Cheryln Malloney, Yohan Jackman, Renee Winter and GT&T Jingle and song finalists Jenelle Perrier and Ester Osborne.

In their own unique style each act thrilled the crowd, which had removed from the stands braving the intermittent rain as they stood in the open fields. Then it was time for Guyana’s own Ian Greaves, to give a home warming performance to his people.

Greaves sang some of his most popular tunes which included ‘Restoration’ and ‘I have a plan’ among others. The crowd which was already hyped did not fail to interact with Greaves who was not afraid to use up his time on stage. The crowd also did its part. The people participated and interacted with Greaves throughout his performance.

Then it was time for Pastor Donnie Mc Clurkin who was introduced by GT&T’s Chief Executive Officer Yog Mahadeo. Before introducing the International artiste Mahadeo welcomed the Leader of the Opposition David Granger, Head of the Guyana Defence Force, Commodore Gary Best, and Prime Minister Samuel Hinds.

The CEO also announced that the Gospel Mega Concert will now be an annual feature. After presenting Pastor Mc Clurkin with a little token on behalf of all Guyanese, the Pastor took to the stage and did not fail the crowd.
Pastor Mc Clurkin thrilled the hyped crowd with some of his Grammy-winning renditions. These included ‘As the Deer’, ‘Holy’ and ‘These are the days’. He then sang some of his all time favourites in Japanese and Dutch. And as expected the crowd seem pleased as some patrons close to the stage made special requests which were delivered.

Coming down to crunch time the Pastor said that it is his hope to return to Guyana before the end of this year and that he will be looking at the possibility of inviting other international recording artistes.
