Dead silence as Minister calls on residents to applaud Govt’s performance

Minister within the Public Infrastructure Ministry Annette Ferguson was left in an awkward position on Friday night when she called on the crowd to applause as she asked residents of Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) to give the coalition Government a second chance, which was met by dead silence from those gathered.

Region Two held its annual flag-raising ceremony at the Anna Regina Community Centre Ground.

The programme had a fixture of cultural items including patriotic songs, dances and poems reflecting Guyana’s rich heritage but the event took a political turn when Minister Ferguson, in delivering the feature address, gave an election campaign speech. She accused the People’s Progressive Party of destroying Guyana and called out to residents of Region Two to support the coalition Government (APNU/AFC). However, things got even more awkward as the Minister called out to residents to give the coalition a second chance to continue what she described as “good work”, but as she asked the crowd to cheer for the Government’s “achievements”, there was dead silence. As such, she persisted for an applause and a few persons clapped as the moment became uncomfortable as she continued to plea for support for the Government.

Speaking with this publication, some rice farmers who attended the flag-raising ceremony said that they were very disappointed that the feature address turned into a political rally. The farmers said that no mention was made about the crippling rice industry in the region nor was there any mention of future plans to address the declining industry.

Meanwhile, at midnight, the Golden Arrowhead was hoisted by members of the Joint Services. In attendance at the ceremony were Regional Executive Officer, Dennis Jaikarran and Heads of the Joint Services among other regional officials. The Regional Chairman was absent from the event.

On Saturday morning, to celebrate Guyana’s 49th Republic Anniversary, Essequibians turned out in their numbers to get a glimpse of the region’s float parade.

There were seven floats in three categories – large, medium and small. In the large category, one float participated which was the Regional Democratic Council (RDC).

In the medium category, the winner was the Mainstay/Wayaka group while the second place went to the G Division Police Youth Group and third place to the Essequibo Technical Institute (ETI). In the small category, the winner was the Regional Health Department and the second prize went to the Education Department. The Anna Regina Town Council also received a prize for participating in this category.

The Irfaan thingy not playing out too well. BJ may have overplayed his hand with the people.   Now looks like someone whispering in Granger’s ears not to worry about March 19.

I think they should switch Ali out for Nandlall. I can't see the PPP winning with Ali. That said, the PNC are still scared shit of having an election. Seems like they have even less confidence in their prospects.

I still believe the best choice was Anthony!  Then one of my other siblings would be getting an award!

Ali is a pitbull and realistically that characteristic is needed to deal with the PNC bullies. Anthony may be too nice causing him to struggle with the PNc bullies. Nandlall is capable to keeping the PNC in their place and no one is questioning his certificates.

Jagdeo is hoping that the fake degree is true so he can dump Irfaan without having egg on his face.

Poor Irfaan, but this is the cost of being stupid!

And what will Irfaan do?  Shoot them down in cold blood like Ramotar did in Linden?

You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.  In fact Frank Anthony might well have been able to convince the PNC base to stay home, if they couldn't bring themselves to vote PPP. And to assess Anthony rule fairly and maybe even shift votes if he deserved it.

I have never heard anyone suggest that he is especially corrupt, nor any suggestions that he is a racist.

Shooting down black people is a fast track to a civil war.  And from the safety of FL I know that you want this as you can tap on your PC " Ah tell you dem black man savage".

Thanks to brother Gaj. Dem animals ran for their lives like cockroaches after the cleaning up began.

Gaj isnt around anymore, but you can resume plans to shoot down black people like you all did under Jaggy.  Let us see how people will respond.

You are off your meds and hallucinating again !

Now go and protect your family from marrying to "stink smelling" people. Its your "patriotic" duty to keep them as racially pure as they were when their ancestors stepped off those boats from India.

People have a right to chose whoever they seem suitable as a spouse. If they chose not to marry a specific group of people then it is their choice too.

Not because you were rejected by Indo Girls twice means that you should hate Indos. You should have tried a third time and some fisherwoman Indo girl could have accepted you. You rass too ugly, that's why dem Indo girls rejected you, twice !

Banna, dem PNC people were rioting on elections day in 1992. Which black person was shot down that caused those riots?

And when they do decide to marry a black man you need to welcome them into the family and treat them just as if they are white.  Yes I know that you revere whites and think that God smiles if one of them marries a relative of yours.

A cardiac arrest, after a hysterical scream "you disgrace de family by bringing in one a dem stink black man" is not appropriate behavior. I mean this conduct isnt going to guarantee PPP victories if a major group in Guyana is so despised by you.

Of course you will note that Hoyte told them to behave themselves and stop rioting.  Hammie Green stormed off taking his hooligans with him. Janet promptly embraced thugs like Joe Hamilton (who note that long ago was boasting about how many "WPA" bones he broke). Kwame, Lumumba and the rest of the thug crew.

So it was the PNC which stopped the rioting.

Now when Lindeners protested the PPP shot them down in cold blood.
