I enjoyed "Uljhan suljhe na" played it a few times and will do some more.........very catchy.

DARED TO BARE: ZEENIE AMAN:


On a misty mountain road, a car meets with an accident and the driver, Shekhar (Navin Nischol), knocks on the door of the nearest house to get help. He finds the door unlocked and decides to walk in. Inside, he discovers the murdered master of the house - Ranjit Singh (Danny Denzongpa) - and the murderer holding the proverbial smoking gun. This is how good murder mysteries should begin. :-D When the camera moves to show the murderer, I’m not surprised that ‘he’ is a gorgeous woman – the script requires it! To make matters even more interesting, the gorgeous woman turns out to be none other than Ranjit Singh’s long-suffering wife Rani (Zeenat Aman).


Rani tells a tale of years of relentless persecution that culminated in a fight where a loaded gun went off accidentally, and the persecutor became the victim. Moved by her tale of woe, Shekhar decides to help her escape a murder rap (who wouldnt want to slay dragons for such a beautiful damsel-in-distress?!). A plea of self-defence occurs to neither of them! O wait, maybe self-defence is a modern phenomenon and didnt occur in the 1970s?


Shekhar and Rani concoct a tale of a fictitious break-in to explain Ranjit’s murder by an unknown outsider and also contrive to give Rani an alibi. Things go smoothly for the conspirators. The body is duly discovered by the house-maid, Radha, whose screams summon the rest of the household. Shekhar makes his re-entry as a car-wrecked stranger seeking help, and calls in the police. The law-enforcement turns up in full force with Inspector Joshi (Madan Puri), Inspector Bakshi (Jagdish Raj) and several others. (Its re-assuring to know that even at midnight, police stations are so full of policemen!)


When the police begin the questioning, Shekhar hands over the murder weapon with the story of picking it up after colliding with a man running out of the house. He claims to be unable to describe the stranger as the mist hid the latter almost completely. The police find the “evidence” of robbery but are convinced that its an inside job. They begin to look for the murderer in Ranjit Singh’s own household. And the more they learn about Ranjit Singh and his family, the more suspects they find!

Chandrashekhar's car breaks down in the middle of the night amidst a thick fog in the country-side. Taking his flashlight, he approaches a nearby house, and knocks on the door. It is then the police and the prosecution realize that there is more to this homicide than they imagined.

this movie is a thriller...it's worth a second look...she was amazing in here and Sanjay..man was he ever good looking..but the storyline is great..Danny was great too. Cool

One of the many stars whom Dev Anand brought into the limelight is Zeenat Aman. She was the second runner-up in 1973 Miss India and immediately in her Dev Anand saw all the ingredients of a future star. Thus she became the new face to reckon with.

Zeenat Aman started her career with 'Hare Rama Hare Krishna' where she played the role of a hippie girl. Her very first film fetched her the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress award. Her future as the most beautiful model-turned-actress was inscribed. Soon she grabbed two prestigious film offers with the Nasir Hussain camp. Her movies 'Yaadon Ki Baraat' and 'Hum Kisise Kam Nahin' is still remembered because of her flawless beauty and breathtaking screen appeal. Sanjay Khan cast her in the movie 'Abdulla' where she was supposed to wear saffron gowns. But her beauty was enhanced in that and people appreciated her all the more. She was so flamboyant, she even left her marks in a multi-starrer film like 'Raj Tilak'. Zeenat then teamed up with the Big B to give some of the biggest hits in the industry. Her career as an actress really came off quite well in films like 'Don', 'Laawaris', 'Dostana', 'The Great Gambler', 'Mahaan' and 'Pukar'. Then Feroz Khan's 'Qurbani' happened and this beauty showed the world that she could dance as well. The songs of this film became the national songs and Zeenat was the heartthrob of many teenyboppers of that time. Synopsis

After the retirement of his dad (Krishan Dhawan), the responsibility is on Bharat (Manoj Kumar) to look after his Delhi-based family. He has two younger college-going brothers, Vijay (Amitabh Bachchan) and Deepak (Dheeraj Kumar) and a sister of marriage age, Champa (Meena T.). Although Bharat himself is a college graduate, the only work he can find is as a low-paid singer, much to the frustration of his girlfriend, Sheetal (Zeenat Aman). Meanwhile, Vijay has turned to crime as a last option to provide for the family, but after an argument with Bharat, he leaves home to join the army.

Sheetal starts working as a secetary for rich businessman Mohan Babu (Shashi Kapoor) and Mohan becomes attracted to her. She too becomes attracted to Mohan Babu but is more interested in his wealth and luxury. She loves Bharat but cannot contemplate a life in poverty. Bharat finally finds a job as a builder but starts to realise that Sheetal is slowly drifting away from his life. Afterwards he loses his job as a builder after the government takes over the building site currently being constructed and his financial problems increase further. When Sheetal's boss, Mohan Babu, proposes marriage, she accepts and soon both are engaged leaving Bharat heartbroken. After losing his love, Bharat also loses his father, devastating him and leaving him unable to deal with his life. Frustrated, Bharat burns his diploma on his father's funeral pyre.

Meanwhile, his sister Champa has found a suitor, but Bharat has no money to pay for the wedding and it cannot go ahead. Still depressed at the state of his life, Bharat soon finds salvation by helping a poor girl, Tulsi (Moushmi Chatterjee), who also lives in poverty but gets by. He also makes friends with Sardar Harnam Singh (Prem Nath) who comes to his rescue when he attempts to save Tulsi from a gang of hoodlums. He then receives an offer from a corrupt businessman named Nekiram (Madan Puri) who persuades Bharat to do his illegal activities and he and his family will finally come out of poverty and be wealthy. The plot centers on whether Bharat agree to this, or whether his moral nature stop him from turning to crime to provide for his family.

Dids, In 1974 Zeenat Aman was 23 years of age, and Dev Anand was 51 years of age, Hmmm almost the same age gap between Dilip Kumar and Saira Banu.

Would this have worked? nah! I dont think so, who knows?

Manoj Kumar has always been a filmmaker whose sole intention of making films is to make films about India and present problems of India in a honest and truthful way! Where Upkaar was dedicated to farmers and "dharti maa", Purab Aur Paschim was about Indians overseas who forget about their culture. Roti Kapada Aur Makaan is his most successful film to date and is about the 3 things which every Indian in India needs -Roti (Food), Kapada(Clothes) and Makaan (House)!!

The plot is very well thought out and is directed to perfection by Manoj. It revolves around Bharat (Manoj) who after studying for years and getting a degree canÂīt get a job; He has two younger brothers at home Vijay (Amitabh Bachchan) and Bharat (Dheeraj Kumar), an ailing father, worried mother and a young sister. He also has a girlfriend (Zeenat Aman) who wants Bharat to get a job and fulfil her dreams in life. These dreams consist of a nice house, lots of travelling and a nice car. She loves Bharat for his honesty - the one thing that he is proud to have. Bharat has a fight with his brother Vijay after which he leaves home and vows to return only after he has become something. In the meantime Sheetal (Zeenat) gets a job and starts falling for the charms of the lovely Mr. Kapoor (Shashi Kapoor). Bharat loses Sheetal to Mr Kapoor. He finally gets a job at a construction site where he meets Moushmi Chatterjee. She is a victim of rape and is now bringing up the son that happened after the incident and a happy-go-lucky Sardar (Prem Nath). Bharat loses his father after an incident and gets done for jail after he tries to steal the medicine for his father. His father passes away and Bharat vows to become a rich man even if that means losing his honesty! How Bharat becomes a rich man, gets all his needs in life but loses his self-respect is what forms the rest of the story. In the meantime Vijay returns as a die-hard army officer and his other brother becomes a police officer. Little do they know that their idol of a brother has become a corrupt don.

In terms of performance everyone gives a great performance and lives up to their role. Manoj Kumar has never been a mind blowing actor-but itÂīs his character and mannerisms that enabled him to succeed. Here again as the prototype Indian Bharat, he succeeds. His dialogue delivery and facials and immaculate as Bharat though he tends to go overboard with the hand gestures. In his other films like Upkaar, Kranti and Purab Aur Paschim he played a perfect Indian, here he plays an Indian who falters under the pressures of society, a flawed character but one you sympathise with. Zeenat Aman as Sheetal was pretty good too. She oozed sex appeal and had me drooling in that wet sari in “Hai Hai Yeh Majboori”. She acts gracefully and her scenes with Manoj are great. Shashi Kapoor is good in his role too; he doesnÂīt have much to do but looks good. Amitabh Bachchan as Vijay ROCKS! His role is shorter than ManojÂīs but his character is one that the audience instantly LOVE! Right from his entrance his dialogues and delivery is just pure dynamite. His re-entrance into the movie as an Army Officer is also great. Moushmi Chatterjee was awesome in her role. She looked gorgeous and was amazing in the emotional scenes. Just witness the scene where she loses her kid and dad in the sewers. Madan Puri made a pretty ace villain and everyone else in the cast did their part well. Prem Nath also performs well.

In terms of direction Manoj Kumar was in top form! He had an awesome story, killer cast and mind-blowing music! He showed his genius as a director and filmmaker many times before and does here again. Just witness the showdown with him and Bachchan at the start; His scenes with Zeenat Aman; The scenes with Moushmi Chatterjee and finally the shocking yet over-the-top rape scene.

Music had always been a strongpoint in Manoj Kumar films and it is safe to say that Roti Kapada Aur Makaan is the best soundtrack from any of his films. Each and every song is a classic and oozes melody! The picturization of the songs are awesome too-but Laxmikant Pyarelal were hands down legends as proven in this film. Music is one factor that is part of RKAM and contributes heavily to its success!

Technically the film is also pretty good and he introduces fight master Veeru Devgan here (No wonder his debut flick Hindustan Ki Kasam resembled parts of a Manoj Kumar starrer.)

Roti Kapada Aur Makaan is one film in my lifetime I have seen more than one hundred times and all I can say after watching it for the first time this year is that the film has not lost its novelty!

"Don" 1978 One of the classic masala films of the 1970s, Don is a magnificent showcase for the lanky charm of Amitabh Bachchan in his prime.

The title character is a powerful lieutenant in an international smuggling ring. Early in the film the body count mounts - and so does Don's arrogance, as he utters the film's famous line, Don ko pakadna mushkil hi nahin - namumkin hai: "It's not just difficult to catch Don - it's impossible." Soon, though, Don is not just caught but killed, and the police official who is the only witness to his death hatches the cunning plan of hiring a doppleganger to infiltrate Don's gang and collect intelligence. Enter Vijay, a rough, uneducated, paan-chewing Bombay street performer who just happens to be a dead ringer for the departed Don. Vijay must now convince the gang that he is Don - and, after his patron's death, convince the police that he isn't.

Improbable? Sure. But never mind - Don is a thoroughly fun ride. Throw in the beautiful Zeenat Aman as the tough-as-nails, steely Roma, who infiltrates Don's gang to avenge her brother's death, and one of the funkiest, best soundtracks of the era, and it's no wonder this film is a classic. The wheels come off a bit in the film's final third as the plot holes stretch a little wider than they should and the action scenes strain the suspension of disbelief. Still, Don is precisely the kind of escapist fantasy that Bollywood excels at, especially in that era, and Amitabh has plenty of irresistable charm to make up for whatever shortcomings may exist in the script. And it's all in good fun - with its tightrope escapes from tall buildings, improbable urban car-chases, and exploding suitcases, Don never takes itself too seriously.

The film was released without any promotion on May 12, 1978 and was declared a flop the first week. Within a week, the song "Khaike Paan Banaraswala" became a big hit, and word of mouth spread, so by the second week, the film was also declared a big hit. The profits from the film were given to Irani's widow to settle her husband's debts..
