The fifth edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) is set to bowl off in St Lucia on August 4 and will climax with the grand finals on September 9 at the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad, while the Guyana Amazon Warriors opens their campaign on August 5 with a game against the St Kitts & Nevis Patriots in Florida USA.
With GTT as their premium sponsor for the first time this year, the Warriors will begin their camp in Guyana from July 26 as they prepare to break the jinx of losing in the finals in three of past four tournaments, including last year when they were beaten by two-times Champions Jamaica.
The Camp, which will be attended by all their members including the ones from overseas, will include two practice games and a simulation match.
John Ramsingh, the Media/ Marketing Officer and Assistant Operations Manager along with the Warriors’ Manager Trinidadian Omar Khan yesterday updated the Media on the Warriors’ preparations, activities and the cost for tickets for the Guyana leg of the tournament.
The Warriors will play four home games from August 17 to 22 at the Providence Stadium and tickets for the venue which accommodates 15,000 fans went on sale from yesterday at the CPL Head office at Camp and Quamina streets.
The Warriors face Jamaica Tallawahs on August 17 from 18:00hrs under lights, they then battle Trinbago Knight Riders on the 19th from noon in their only day game before opposing Barbados Tridents on the 20th from 18:00hrs and St Lucia Stars in another 18:00hrs match-up on August 22.
Ramsingh informed that $5,000 will get fans into the Green and Reds stands, while the cost of admission to the Orange stand is $3,000 and the Mound $ 2,500. Vehicles parking on the tarmac will pay $1,500 for the pass, while $500 will be charged for parking in the lot between the Stadium and the Ramada Princess Georgetown Hotel.
“Guyana is the first venue in the Caribbean to start ticket sales, the only ground with numbered seats. Preparations are in full swing for what will be a fantastic local leg of exciting CPL cricket,” Khan informed.
Khan disclosed that every member of the Warriors team including officials needs a P1 Visa to work in the USA for the Florida where the Guyanese will face-off with St Kitts and Nevis Patriots Saturday August 5 before playing them again in their return match the next day.
“We will be visiting a Charity home and working to promote our sponsors while in Guyana so the players will not only be required to make appearances at the Stadium,” Khan stated.
“The West Indies under-19 team is on tour so we will not have any youth players on our team but we will have Joshua Persaud and a talented youngster from Berbice named Seon Glasgow will get the opportunity to rub shoulders with the international players like Rashid Khan, Sohail Tanvir, Martin Guptill and Chris Lynn” Khan disclosed.
According to Khan, unlike previous years when a person could not purchase more than 10 tickets it is now unlimited and one person can buy as many tickets as they wish, adding that from next week tickets will be sold in Berbice and Essequibo, while the new Warriors merchandise will arrive in Guyana shortly for sale.

Jamaican Chadwick Walton, Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan, ICC Americas opener Steven Taylor and Barbados all-rounder Roshon Primus will play for Warriors for the first time this year as will left-handed Guyanese batsman Gajanand Singh and fast bowler Keon Joseph.

Sohail Tanvir, Martin Guptill, Chris Lynn, Rayad Emrit, Jason Mohammed, Veerasammy Permaul, Assad Fudadin, Steven Jacobs and Steven Katwaroo have been retained.
