Couple robbed 3 houses from Ramjattan

As crime continues to spiral out of control, two brazen bandits attacked and robbed a married couple who live only a few houses away from Public Security Minister Khemraj Ramjattan.

Fifty-year-old Nandkishore Lulla, who is the owner of the Price Rite Store on Regent Street, and his wife, had just arrived in front of their Lot 14 Delph Street, Campbellville home when the incident occurred about 18:30h on Thursday.

Ramjattan, who lives at Lot 10 Delph Street, was in Parliament at the time of the incident. According to Lulla, he had parked his Canter GNN 7272 in his driveway and his wife had exited the vehicle to open the gate when a gold Toyota Spacio drove up behind him and out came the two armed bandits who pounced on the pair.

The bandits opened fire on the businessman, but luckily, the bullet missed him and hit the vehicle instead. They succeeded in escaping with over $100,000. “I was coming home and I parked the vehicle there and then a car came and parked behind me and then two persons came out, one from the driver’s side and one from the passenger’s side – both had guns – and they came and took the gun and he shoot inside the vehicle but it did not hit me,” the businessman related.

“They grabbed whatever I had in my hand, my lunchbox, she had her bag, she had her phone inside there, and we had some cash also inside there…about $100,000 and $150,000. They asked to give us everything and I gave them what I had because I was scared for my life,” the traumatised resident explained. Lulla said the bandits immediately fled the scene thereafter as neighbours and passersby began to respond to the sound of the gunshot. The businessman believed he was trailed from the store.

Meanwhile, when the perpetrators departed, Lulla immediately sought help from the security guard on duty by the Minister’s home. He said the guard advised him to make a report at the Kitty Police Station; however, Lulla thought the best thing to do at that time was to return to the store on Regent Street to change the locks on the door.

“They had the keys to the store; the keys to my house so I thought the best thing to do was to go change the locks,” he said.  When Guyana Times arrived at the scene around 20:00h, the businessman was only then about to make a report at the station.

Granger has to adopt a policy as Airport Security. Stop and search at random. And if necessary, set up road blocks in and out of the city.

These criminal acts must be minimized.

Perhaps, these crooks come out of the woodwork because Granger announced pardon for small time criminals.

Maybe, his decoration of Hamilton Green has also motivated the criminals.

Ramjattan is faced with the task of replacing the inept COP for incompetence.

The events of the past couple of months clearly show that the COP cannot handle his job.  Ramjattan has no experience dealing with security work.

This is granger's fault. He should have hired a career soldier to do the job.

Jagdeo now should bytch slap Ramjattan.

NYPD did stop and frisk.  Less than 1% of the stops resulted in seizure of a weapon.  The real criminals know who the cops are and hid their guns, and then laughed at the cops.

This is a failed policy.

GPF needs to improve its ability to identify who the criminals are, and keep their under observation.  They can then focus on any random searches on those groups.  This is exactly why community based policing will work, as within each community it is known who the trouble makers are.

Jump up and down and scream as much as folks like, but nothing replaces a squadron of police men who are well trained in detective work.

In addition the GDF, GPF and the Custome Dept need to get to the bottom of gun smuggling. I am sure that they know who some of the culprits are.  Given that many no longer have political connection (and Granger ought to remove any which received PNC protection), this should serve to reduce the problem.

Maybe mercenaries are no longer on the payroll, with the demise of the PPP, so now have to "earn a living".

Fact is that populist activities which irritate innocent people, without focusing on the guilty, are counter productive.  Guyana is very close to becoming a Kingston, Port of Spain and a Rio.  Alienating entire communities never works.

Caribj, don't talk shyte, you know that's not the whole story.  Yes, there was a 1% weapon siezure however, the mere fact there was stop and frisk meant that less weapons were being carried around thus the significant drop in gun-related crimes all together.  You know this, you live there, so why not tell the truth.

You guys deviating from the incompetence of the Minister of national security.

Ramjattan had a big mouth when the PPP was in power.  He never failed to let the PNC Know that he can do better.   What bothers me is that it was the PNC who were centrally directing crime in the country, and then they turned around and give a jackass from the PPP the responsibility to fight crime.
