We have noted that Commissioner General of the Guyana Revenue Authority, Godfrey Statia, in his long missive to the press, failed to respond to the following:

1. How did the two Toyota Landcruisers in question end up in the hands of PNC official and former Mayor, Carlton Beckles? What process was used for the disposal of the two vehicles? Did the process involve public tendering? What price was paid?

2. If he has nothing to hide then why not invite the Auditor General to probe how the luxury vehicles were disposed of by the GRA. What process was involved? Were they put up for public tender? If so, at what prices were they sold and to whom.

3. How did 5000 bottles of seized high-end liquor, worth over $25M, end up in the hands of the APNU?

We urge that the following issues be addressed as there are more revelations to come.

Why is he being so dodgy?

Why is he answering a question with another unrelated question?

Why is he invoking "duty of confidentiality"?

Why don't he just enlighten us on the process and prove transparency and that the taxpayers received the best value?

Why is he not enforcing the tax rules against BJ?

I spoke to my visiting cousin from Guyana regarding this.   To place him is perspective, he operates the Deloitte affiliated Chartered Acctg Firm in Guyana, so he speaks from a position of knowledge.

He said we must remember, many things in Guyana have lil hanky panky however, in the grand scheme, Statia is a very competent head of GRA.  Revenues are up, compliance is up and GRA is efficient.  He is a professional!

He said PPP did their hanky-panky also!

I'm shocked, PPP did hanky-panky??

Base, how can one be a Professional by taking orders from others who are NOT in the position to do so and how can one be a Prof by not executing their duties fairly across the board. Beat the shit out of me but I guess there is an explanation!!

He didn’t say that.  He did confirm the response from Statia was correct as to due process.  Did the follow protocol in the ones BJ questioned?  Cannot vouch. However, an audit would allay any fears.

I have said in the past that Statia, Van West Charles, Jordan and the Speaker should be retained when this government changes. But these allegations if true do not look good for the individual

You mean this Van West Charles

According to news report, the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) has called in for questioning Richard Van West-Charles, who is a director of Atlantic Fuels Inc.

The questioning is in relation to the under-invoicing of fuel that Atlantic Fuels Inc. was purchasing in the free trade border area at Morawhanna, North West District, Region One. According to information received that taxes are upwards of $100M.

Notably, there are at least two instances involving Atlantic Fuels Inc. and what appear to be fake invoices being submitted to GRA. On the fake invoices were two fuel shipments done between September and October last year, where the cost of the diesel was declared about 50 percent less.

And so is every government, but no ministers going to Buxton and Agricola to cut off the pipe .. you knows that.

You must look up what happened to the last man who went into Buxton to cut off the water.

It is Van West who sent the man to turn off the pipe in Buxton.  You think Jranjer or Greene would do that.  Van West operated fair and square.  Pay your bill and don't hide behind your race.

Explain yourself or show your argument for or against the head of GRA! BTW, is a rise in the deficit in Guyana's balance of payments good or bad for the economy?

Explain yourself.

Banna, you make no sense.  I said revenues are up and compliance is up.  You said people filing more taxes.  Now, where is the contradiction?

Then you said, but Govt spending more and running deficit.  Now, what does that have to do with the head of GRA?

Please explain, in logical terms, what is the argumentation!

What Statia is doing in more like what America does. He is linking investment tax credits and rebates, etc to declaration.  I probably would have used the same approach, specially for established businesses.  Start ups or other critical, maybe more flexibility.
