[www.inewsguyana.com] – The Guyana Chronicle has taken a decision to fire its General Manager Michael Gordon and Editor, Mark Ramotar with immediate effect.

According to a media release, the Board of Directors of the Guyana National Newspapers Limited (GNNL), publisher of the Guyana Chronicle and Sunday Chronicle, at a meeting on Tuesday December 01, 2015 took a unanimous decision to discontinue to services of Gordon and Ramotar effective immediately.

“The Board of Directors has taken these two decisions with a view to strengthening both the administrative leadership and management and the editorial department as the newspaper seeks to rebrand and reposition itself as a credible national newspaper,” the release stated.

It was noted that GNNL and the Chronicle newspaper have been suffering from weak management and circulation numbers have been steadily declining.

“The Board of Directors is of the view that fresh and competent leadership is needed administratively and new editorial direction and support is required.”

When contacted, Ramotar told iNews that he was unaware of the termination of his services. Ramotar has been employed at the Guyana Chronicle for the past 16 years.

A subsequent release from the Board  revealed that Mrs Moshamie Ramotar has been appointed Acting General Manager for the period of three months.

It was noted that GNNL will immediately commence the search for a substantive General Manager following the decision to discontinue with the services of Gordon.

“The post will be publicly advertised and an appointment made following the successful completion of the process,” the release noted.

“The Board of Directors thanks Mr. Gordon for his service to GNNL and wishes him the best in his future endeavours. The Board further expresses its confidence in Mrs Ramotar in taking up the mantle of administrative leadership during this period of transition. Mrs Ramotar is the substantive Finance Director of GNNL.”

A little too late. Ramotar should have been gone if the then predident Ramotar was respectful to Africans. That bastard wrote one of the most distusting racist pieces ever posted in a national newspaper. It was if it came from the press of the third reich. President Ramotar should have fired him then.

That's why I said Jagan introduced real democracy in Guyana. Even though there is a price to be paid to open up a country to international exposure, the right of citizens to speak their mind freely was more important than the risk to be over exposed. Granger pickitted the PPP for democracy and turn around and reintroduced dictatorship in Guyana.

Where is the dictatorship? PPP is still operating openly and freely. No one from Freedom house has been arrested, jailed, or killed by Granger.

Mark Ramotar had rightly offered his resignation as Chronicle Editor-in-Chief six months ago but Information Minister Moses Nagamootoo asked him to stay on pending a review of the Chronicle. The government has a legitimate right to overhaul the state-owned Chronicle to suit its interests.

REMINDER: In 1992 the PPP government fired Chronicle Editor-in-Chief Adam Harris and hired Sharief Khan.

When governments change in Guyana or elsewhere these things happen.

The Granger administration is slothful and is now doing what should have been done months ago.

Mark Ramotar was following instructions given to him by Donald and Bharat. This is what the PPP screams day in and day out.

Pity he will be unemployed, while the other two spend their billions.
