Channa & Potato Curry

 

Channa & Potato Curry is a popular Vegetarian Dish Served at Hindu Religious functions in Guyana. Particularly Weddings as part of “Seven Curry”
 
Ingredients
  1. 1/2 lb Dried Channa or 1 tin of Channa (Chickpea)
  2. 4 potatoes, peeled and chopped
  3. 2 cloves garlic, chopped
  4. 1 small onion Chopped
  5. 2 wiri peppers finely chopped
  6. 2tbsp Curry powder
  7. 1/2 tsp Geera
  8. 1/2 Tsp Masala
  9. 1/2 Tsp Salt or Salt to taste
Instructions
  1. If Dried Channa is used, Pressure Cook the channa in salted water (1 tsp) for later use
  2. Wash and peel potatoes then chop them
  3. Heat oil and add onion and Garlic
  4. Add the Curry and Cook until almost Dry
  5. Add Potato and Green Seasonings. Stir until Coasted with curry
  6. Add Channa and Mix. Then add the pepper
  7. Add the Salted “Channa” Water. Pour enough to almost cover the channa & potatoe (about 2 cups)
  8. Cook until potatoes are tender and Mixture is Thick
  9. Season with Salt, Gheera, Masala. Add pepper to taste
