Former US president Jimmy Carter has called on the Guyana Elections Commission to release the 2015 election results. Below is the full press release:

GEORGETOWN, GUYANA β€” Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter has urged Guyana’s election commission to release election results and called on political leaders to act responsibly.

β€œI call on GECOM to urgently publicize all of the results that it has received and reviewed in Georgetown. Political leaders should act responsibly and allow GECOM to continue its work,” Carter said. β€œThe law provides for recounts, and the submission of election petitions following the declaration of results by GECOM.”

β€œAll sides should avoid taking unnecessary actions that could contribute to a climate of fear or threaten peace. I urge the Guyanese people to remain patient and to reflect the dignity and integrity of what took place on election day. The voters have spoken and the results will be available soon.”

GECOM cannot orchestrate a fair count. It happens as process. The count is made on the ground after the elections. the boxes sealed, the SOPs posted and sent to GECOM. They collect the SOP and publish. If a party objects, they declare an objection, make a case then a recount is undertaken.

Since we know the entire scope of the vote count and what margins is needed here or there one can easily make that up. This is awful. GECOM is pretending it is exist to determine outcome not manage a process. It does not exist to satisfy a party displeasure. It exist to see a fair process.
