While students who sat Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) exams in May and June of this year will be able to access their results online on Friday, the Ministry of Education has already announced that Guyana has recorded a 7% increase in passes at the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examinations (CAPE).

In a press statement last evening, the ministry explained that 851 candidates from nine secondary schools and four private institutions sat the examinations this year and 92.57% of them achieved Grades 1 to 5 passes. The result represents a 7% increase over the 86.74% in passes achieved in 2016.

Specifically, the ministry noted that 16.47% of the entrants attained Grade 1s, 22.90% attained Grade 2s, 22.93% attained Grade 3s, 18.08% attained Grade 4s, while 13% attained Grade 5.

A 100% pass rate was recorded in thirty units: Agricultural Science Unit 1 and Unit 2; Art & Design Unit 1 and Unit 2; Computer Science Unit 1; Food and Nutrition Unit 1 and Unit 2; Geography Unit 1 and Unit 2; Information Technology Unit 1 and Unit 2; Animation & Gaming Unit 1 and Unit 2; Spanish Unit 1 and Unit 2; Physical Education & Sports Unit 1 and Unit 2; Digital Media Unit 1 and Unit 2; Entrepreneurship Unit 1 and Unit 2; Green Engineering Unit 1; Logistics & Supply Chain Operations Unit 1; Building & Mechanical Engineering Drawing (Building) Unit 1 and Unit 2; Electrical & Electronic Engineering Technology Unit 1; Applied Mathematics Unit 2; Environmental Science Unit 2; Tourism Unit 2; and Electrical & Electronic Engineering Technology Unit 2.

Two of the subjects which recorded 100% passes, Green Engineering as well as Animation and Gaming Design, were written for the first time this year.

Additionally, Animation and Gaming Design along with Digital Media were written using the new electronic testing method launched earlier this year.

Students wishing to access their individual CAPE results may log on to http://results.cxc.org on Friday. Individual Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) results will also be available on the same site at the same time.

Member states will have access to the CSEC results before close of business on Thursday, August 17, 2017, while the Ministry of Education will officially announce Guyana’s results on Tuesday, August 22, 2017.
