Broken well forces Amerindian students to fetch water

The Alliance for Change has released video of children fetching water at Paramakatoi in Region Eight as it calls on the government to fix the well in the Amerindian community.

This video was released by the seven-seat Parliamentary party, the Alliance for Change. The party said that the well was damaged earlier this year and residents have been forced to fetch water on a daily basis to do their household chores.

In the case of the School Dormitory, the party said, children are forced to trudge with five gallon bottles of water on their shoulders so that the kitchen can have water to use. The children also have to fetch water for the toilets and other uses. The AFC said that the matter was reported to the Guyana Water Incorporated two months ago by Regional Chairman Mark Crawford but to date there has been no effort to fix the well.

The Alliance For Change continues to accuse the government of victimising the people of Region Eight who handed the party a majority in Region at the last elections.

You guys need to be more responsible and stop taking pot shot at the PPP. If a well is broken, would you go thirsty or go and fetch water? I am sure it's a temporary issue. AT the same time, the kids are learning survival skills. I was six years old when my parents use to take me fishing at 5:30 AM almost every day before I go to school. That experience is what makes me a man today. God bless their souls. If wasn't for them, I would never get a pot to piss in. The AFC should be a shame to go in areas where they're not welcome and report this crap. Is this how they intend to win election?

It is about neglect to respond to a need to repair the well. It is not about the children toiling specifically. It is about their unnecessary toil while an incompetent administration sits on its hands.

Who said the AFC Is not liked here? These people have the government in court for their lands. They also give the opposition their winning margin.

Indeed keeping these very people happy will be the reason the opposition maintain its advantage.
