Berbice men charged with rape of minor

[www.inewsguyana.com] – The two men who were suspected of raping two under aged girls were placed before the Whim Magistrates’ Court on Monday, March 23 and charged with one count of rape each by Magistrate Charlyn Artiga.
The men have been identified as 21 – year – old Hemchand Latchman of Belvedere Squatting Area, Corentyne and 55 – year – old Charran Gurman called ‘Suresh’.
Commander of ‘B’ Division, Brain Joseph told iNews that the 15 – year – old teen recanted her story and is now claiming that she was never sexually assaulted by any of the men. However, the 12 – year – old maintains that she was violated, which has since led to the men being charged with one count of rape each.
Both men pleaded not guilty and were released on $150,000 bail each. They will make their next court appearance on April 02.
Gurman was apprehended by Police on March 18 while attempting to flee the country following allegations.
It was the Commander who acted immediately on information received that the elderly man was about to board a flight at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport for the United States when he was arrested.
Reports indicate that the two girls, aged 12 and 15, were sexually abused by the men over a period of several months.
