BCB starts female U-19 training programme

The Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) has commenced the identification of U-19 females who are interested in playing competitive cricket and have implemented systems for them to be trained in the various aspects of the game with the aim to have as a part of the Board’s Female Camp in preparation for the Inter County and Regional U-19 Competitions slated to commence soon.
Chairman of Selectors for the junior panel, Leslie Solomon, along with National women’s Captain, Tremayne Smartt, a West Indies player and qualified Coach, has visited several Secondary Schools in Berbice and has received positive responses from these institutions.
The New Amsterdam Multilateral School, Canje Secondary School, Rosignol Secondary, Woodley Park and # 8 Secondary have already indicated their willingness to allow their female students to participate in the training sessions.
Training sessions have already commenced in the Central Corentyne Area at the Port Mourant Community Center, under the supervision of Coach Smartt. Sessions are also planned for The Berbice High School Ground, and the West Berbice Area, in order to select a squad of 20 which will be encamped from July 2.
The BCB will shortlist a team to represent Berbice in the Guyana Cricket Board’s U-19 Female Inter County Competition scheduled to start in July.
The BCB is encouraging all Clubs and individuals who are interested in the sport to attend these sessions, and contribute to the development of female cricket in Guyana.
