After a prolong absence from Berbice Cricket, sponsors are returning on a regular basis as they expressed confidence in the newly elected Executive headed by long serving Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster. Over the last eighteen months, the Berbice Cricket Board has been unable to obtain any major sponsorship and as such, cricket tournaments were mainly played at the Inter-zones level, while a Second and First Division Tournaments organised with no major sponsor suffered from poor organising. The newly elected Executives has been overwhelmed with the response by Corporate Guyana and in less than two weeks, has received over $3M in sponsorship and pledges from local and overseas donors.

The President of the Berbice Cricket Board made the announcement to loud applause during an Award Ceremony held at the St. Francis Training Centre to honour the Berbice Under-15 Team. The Berbice Cricket Board, he noted has already launched an Under-17, four Second Division 20/20 Tournaments and another 40-Overs for the Upper Corentyne area, while they would be shortly launching tournaments at the Under-15, Under-19, Under-21, Female, Berbice wide Second Division 40-Over and First Division levels.
Tournaments for teams in the Berbice River Area, Secondary Schools and Primary Schools levels are also scheduled for 2018.
The Berbice Cricket Board has also acquired a $500,000 coaching sponsorship for a major county wide coaching programme, while the Berbice Cricket Board is currently in discussion with an overseas supplier of cricket gears for a Gears Contract for promising Berbice Youth Cricketers.
Popular Rose Hall Town Businessman Mr. Terry Pike of Terry’s Grocery on Saturday pledged his support for the Berbice Cricket Board by handing over a quantity of cricket balls that would be used to hold trial matches and practice sessions for the Berbice Under-19 Team. Pike stated that he was delighted to hear that Foster was elected in an election deemed free and fair by all observers, as he has worked with him at the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club, MS for over two decades and knows what he is capable of doing. He predicted that under Foster’s leadership, Berbice Cricket would be unmatched in Guyana. The Rose Hall Town businessman pledged his co-operation in the future and committed to seek the assistance of others.
Foster, who is widely known as a workaholic, stated that he was humbled by the response of Corporate Guyana and even ordinary Berbicians who have responded in a big way to assist Berbice Cricket. Foster stated that one of the main reasons for this massive response is the fact that he enjoyed a very close cordial relationship with numerous sponsors in his capacity as the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club Secretary/CEO. The newly Executives had to start with less than $50,000 in the Berbice Cricket Board Account, while no audited statement has been handed over by the former Treasurer. Foster expressed profound gratitude to Terry Pike and family for the donation of the cricket balls, while urging others to assist in any way.
